  1. Paul good show! Nice speakers!! My cats left a lot of fur in the back of my Khorns until I built the dedicated music room. They don't go out there.. When they were in the main living room they certainly twitched out with the music on! Happy listening! Steve
  2. I agree with most all of the above, and could add many, but to answer the original question.. Al Stewart-Year of the Cat Great songs, great instruments..although I have all Al's releases, before and after, this one is a classic! Steve
  3. Jon.. Best Buy? For speakers? You're gonna scare this group off! For the most part, if you've ever heard any of the heritage line, you won't be happy with others. I'm sure there's exceptions.. Get it right the first time, you won't be sorry! Steve
  4. Anyone ever heard of this preamp?? It has tone controls that I want (yes, I know..I'm not a purist I guess, but I think it's my room!) The price is $450.00...not bad for a tube preamp, new.. Any thoughts appreciated! Thanx, best to all-Happy Holidays, Steve
  5. Don, where did you hide the Klipschorns for this photo shoot?? Steve
  6. Tom thanx, I got the same advice from Craig. I've never used the sniper method, though I've bought and sold on eBay numerous times. Craig gave me some $$ figures this thing might go for, and he had some good advice to go along with it. I'm looking for a vintage tube preamp to go with my Assemblage 300B, as most modern day tube pres don't have tone controls. Either I like them too much or my music room needs them..I haven't decided which. At any rate, I don't want to overspend, but again, I'd like to get it over with!! Does that make sense? Again, thanx for the advice..I'm sure I will be holding my breath, or stop breathing altogether after I see what this thing sells for!! Steve
  7. I saw this the first day it was offered up, and asked Craig about it (he'll vouch for my story hopefully) I've been watching it, but haven't bid. Am I gonna be bidding against any of you guys?? (if I do indeed bid?) Thanx, Steve
  8. Wow, I guess they're low! Or I've paid way too much for used gear! If we could all build a system with those prices, we'd have a lot of money left over for LPs and CDs!! Steve
  9. a preposition is a hell of a thing to end a sentence with. Happy Birthday, we know what ya mean!! Steve
  10. I use 30 feet of Monster cable on my Sunfire sub, and there's no signal loss at all. Regards, Steve
  11. Tom you'll be amazed at what comes out of those speakers..it'll be like having a whole new collection! Enjoy! Steve
  12. I want to wish all you folks on the BB a Very Happy Holiday also. I look at all of you as a wealth of information, and I have learned a lot. I've been a member of this forum for longer than most, yet I am still a "newbie" only because I'd rather learn than post..unless I really have something to add. And I really wanted to add this holiday wish of happiness to all! Hope you all get the gear you wished for for Xmas, and you and those around you keep their good health! Steve
  13. Ray is right..you have to take responsibilty as the shipper as well..I work for the airlines (and no, we're not ALL monkeys, though I have been disappointed in my coworkers handling abilities sometimes)so you have to pack the items well. I have had some shippers claim they packed certain goods with the greatest of care, only to see that meant they threw the item in a box and stuffed some crumpled up newspaper on the top. Double box those electronics. Take the tubes out and wrap separately..no spaces to shift! (thanx Ray) The tape advice was a good one..don't leave a strap or anything else on the package to get hooked by any machinery/loose rivets in aircraft bellies..and back to the tape..TAPE IT GOOD..not a single strap across the top..go all the way around!! Fragile stickers really don't hurt..I can read/and adhere to the messages.."eggs" mean something to me. As an employee of 27 years, I really do treat items such as glass and stereo equipment as my own. But as stated above, we're all working on a time frame and have to hustle, so sometimes there's mistakes! So please pack carefully! Don( BigBusa )did do a great job with some Cornwall packaging, and Forward Air did come thru I must say!) Package them like you were gonna be on the receiving end!! Steve
  14. congrats Dee those 73's look exactly like my '83's!!(except for the badge!) Nothing sounds better than Khorns! Kelly, nice post on the KHorn identity chart...I'm waaay out of your your way, and other posters, as I'm in Alaska, but if you want to hear KHorns..you're all welcome! Still searching for that tube pre to go w/my Assemblage 300B..(thanx Craig) Regards, Steve
  15. I too have the original Lennon album..I was in Anchorage in the 9th grade, 1970 when it came out..a brave FM station was going to play it in it's entirety, without reviewing it first. In those days, anything did NOT go! Ha..I remember hearing them playing "I Found Out" and when the profanity appeared..they just ignored it..however when "Working Class Hero" came on..they caught "but you're so f***ing crazy etc" and they stopped it right then and there and said they'd have to review it! I (being a huge Beatles fan) was definitely intrigued, although saddened by the groups demise..I had to run out and buy Plastic Ono Band.. I agree, it is Lennon's finest work. I'll probably have to buy "Let it Be Naked" just to have them all..like the Anthology collection.. Steve
  16. Hey, you SET non believers leave my amp alone! I'm slow cooking my turkey over the tubes now! Hope you all have a great Thanxgiving!! Steve
  17. Erik also, I have my KHorns 20 feet apart (almost 21) I love the sound! I haven't noticed any hole in the middle! PS..the TV is there for DVD concerts only!! Not movies! (does this count??) I have the Heresy run off the Adcom for this purpose..I run the Assemblage SET300B for music! Best Regards, Steve
  18. Erik and Marie that's great that you guys are so happy with the new KHorns. Like all the posts before, there is nothing that sounds like the KHorn. I am so used to ours, that sometimes I think there may be something better out there...and I have tried other speakers, and although I have tried some darn good ones (Cornwalls included) there is nothing like the King! I know this much..the Khorns have been here for more than 20 years, and they are staying as long as I'm around. Oh, I'll dabble with the rest of the electronics, I'm sure..mainly the sources..I think tubes are here to stay also! But I must add that Marie commenting how good the speakers sounded..well..I'm as lucky as you as my wife Patty has always said the same..she thinks I am insane when I hint there may be something better sounding out there!! Guess I better pay better attention! Again, welcome to the Khorn group!! Best Regards, Steve
  19. Paul let me relate it to you this way..and it's what I hear, for what it's worth. I have had numerous Adcom CD players, with a polarity switch. Same thing..some recordings sounded better with the polarity reversed. I did the same thing with the remote..closed my eyes, switched back and forth randomly, and could guess which mode the polarity switch was in 9 out of 10 times..so maybe the display affects the polarity?? I'm not a rocket scientist, nor do I have superhuman ears, heck probably worse hearing than most of the posters here! I was just reporting what I heard!! Regards, Steve
  20. geez Erik you're gettin this job done fast! Are you calling in sick and staying home?? Talk about dedication!! Regards, Steve
  21. remember this guy?? "Last Trip to Tulsa"..great lyrics..what trip was he on?? Steve
  22. Kelly sorry bout the pic..ha..I have satellite internet, so like cable and DSL I get downloads FAST! Forgot about the dial up guys, I'm so spoiled! I have always been a believer about leaving SS gear powered up, 24/7..it's like a light bulb..they just don't burn out...they fail when powered up/off!! So in that case, you're preaching to the choir! As for interconnects, I use Audioquest Quartz 3..I've had good luck with them.. Sounds smooth to me! Thanx again! Steve
