  1. I had my 2nd shot of Pfizer yesterday, and thankfully no side effects whatsoever today. My wife had her 2nd shot of Moderna 2 days ago, and yesterday she had fever, chills and loss of appetite.

She was actually happy that her immune response was there because she has a compromised immune system from her Crohn’s medication.

Pretty crazy how people react differently to the vaccines.

  2. I've since gotten a Denafrips into my system.  I had to see what all the hype was about.  I can't imagine finding a more analog sounding DAC.

Did you end up with the Ares II? I like it.
  3. Budget is key here as there are a lot of options available to you. I don’t believe you’ll need a gaming laptop necessarily. I stream just fine using my 8 year old Windows laptop streaming to a chromecast audio, which is connected to my stereo. You can pick one of those up on eBay for under $100 (I believe). I haven’t checked prices of those lately. Only problem is that it doesn’t unfold MQA from Tidal.

If your budget is much higher than that, you have many options. Let us know what your budget is so we can narrow down for you.

  4. Just a bit of food for thought (and discussion) and a visualization for those of you still trying to take it all in. Below is a picture of my latest streamer/bridge. Less than $75 delivered to my door. Its a wicked cool aluminum case, a Raspberry Pi 4 and an SD card running RoPieee mentioned in the post above. By cool case I mean chilly. The entire case acts as a heat sink for the Pi's CPU. No fan, no active cooling, making it silent.

This configuration sips electricity compared to a computer. Yes your old re-purposed PC keeps it out of the land fill....but you've dumped thousands of dollars into your system. What's better bang for your buck at less than a c-note?

Can you either post a link or PM me where you bought that? I still have an old Logitech Squeezebox Touch that I use (LMS is still being kept alive), and I’ve always wanted to try a RaspPi configuration. But I’m not very technical, so I didn’t want to mess with it. I assume that will work with this too instead of using a computer with my external hard drive? Instead, I can hook my hard drive up to this? Thanks!

GLWS. More pics and location would be helpful for potential buyers.
  6. The eagle has landed.  You guys were right, no need for that loudness button.  This is my first experience with tube gear, so imagine my surprise to experience the volume and bass thrown from a 30 watt amplifier.  I have read a lot about the differences between tube power and solid state power, but until you actually experience it, it's kind of hard to believe.  My Marantz separates were fun and served me well, but I'm a Primaluna convert now.  Thanks for your help guys.

  7. Ok...baby steps...I bought a gently used (50 hrs) PrimaLuna Prologue Premium and it should be here this weekend.  I got it for what I believe was a good price, so if it works out for me, I can trade up to an EVO 300 or 400.

I borrowed the Prologue Premium from a friend, and I was instantly hooked. You should really like it. Congrats.

  8. Great thread.  Simple question.  I currently run my Forte iiis with a Marantz 250 and Marantz 3300.  I have never owned a line pre without tone controls in my life.
Frankly, I am apprehensive about the EVO 300/400 investment and giving up the loudness button that I have grown quite accustomed to (I know I know haha).
In honesty, my tone controls are generally always flat, but I am a rocker and a loudness button junkie of sorts.  Did any of you miss those options when you went Primaluna?

I, like you, used the loudness button all the time on my Marantz 2325, and when I got my PL Dialogue Premium HP (similar to evo 400), I did not feel the need for a loudness button at all. You won’t miss it.
