  1. What about KHorns made from Fir? Mine are Fir decorators from 76. Looks like marine grade fir, but not designated on the sticker. I believe FIR khorns are pretty rare. Speaking of mid 70s KHorns. Is it worth getting new diaphragms installed into the K55V at this point? I mean, they sound fine, but would there be an improvement in clarity with new diaphragms? I'm aware of getting fresh caps, as i already had Dean made AA's using film and foil caps, but i had to sell them due to cash constraints and now i can really tell the difference. My stock AA's are pretty fatiguing and harsh and Deans AA's were much quieter as far as background noise. Lots of hssss and shhhh background noise on these 76 AA's.
  2. my top rattles quite a bit. I've got decorators not unlike modern Khorns where the top just sits on the LF, but i need isolation pads or feet. Do they need to be specifically "isolation" pads/feet, or any furniture pad/rubber feet will do?
  3. Would love to know more too. Been dreaming about Cornwall IIIs lately but mostly for the new aesthetic whereas my Chorus II are old and ugly looking and I hate the beveled grill frame and riser. I suppose I could just build new risers and grill frames more like the forte III with straight edges since I LOVE the sound of the Chorus IIs and I still have the old stock cheap crossovers and never really driven them with real power Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. That's nice! What tweeter is that and will it work with an AA? I've seen photos of this time aligned tweeter being mentioned, but i've never seen any placed vertically as @moray james mentioned. I have however seen custom mid horn options with built in tweeter cutout placed vertically and iirc i've seen the old original KHorns have the tweeter mounted inside the mid horn vertically.
  6. Interesting! I will give this a try tomorrow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. What exactly would i hear if i tried this with my Klipschorns? I don't have anything to mount on, could i just rest it on the top part of the speaker or will the sound be obstructed? How high does the tweeter need to be mounted over the top plate of the Khorn? Thanks.

  9. I love the sound of a 15" driver. I'd go with the Cornwall III if pressured. Bigger is better, but the Forte III has the bigger mid range and that's where the music lives, so?? I personally have never heard the Cornwall III, but i do have a single Forte III and a pair of Chorus II-all of which barely get play time as my fun is taken up by the mighty Klipschorns. While i was underwhelmed at first with the Forte III and a slight/quick harshness at a certain frequency i don't recall right now(it would consistently make my ear react to that sound), i've grown to really love the sound of the Forte III when i play it in mono. LOTS of speaker for it's size. Smooth and highly detailed, with my one negative being that quick little harshness to my ear at one particular frequency. I know i can't give proper feedback on critical stereo listening, but hey, owning 1 and giving my feedback is better than not owning 1 and having no input on the matter. I absolutely love both aesthetically including the Heresy III. That's a VERY hard decision. Forte III, Cornwall III, or Heresy III + sub(s). Yikes. I'd pull my hair out trying to decide. Ultimately if i had to choose on the spot, i'd blindly choose Cornwall III's if only because i know i love how 15" drivers sound, and i know it can be difficult to integrate subs(with the Heresy IIIs) and having owned Forte I, II, III and Chorus II's all with passive radiators, i know placement can be tough and you never really stop experimenting with placement when you have passive radiator speakers. (i agree with the person above who mentioned the Natural Cherry finish with whichever speaker you choose. That would look perfect in your room, but i'd go with silver grills over lambswool or black).
  10. I'm finding it really difficult to enjoy my Khorns back with the stock AA's. Could be the -3 stock setting that has the mids too forward for my listening position, but it's giving me listening fatigue way too fast. Really harsh. Anyone got tips to EQ the mids down around -3? Which frequency bands should i turn down?
  11. Interesting. Seems the largest piece can only cover up my two Khorn tops. I’d need the 4 side grills still. Seems pretty costly but thanks for showing me which. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. @TFR1 looks great! where did you get that grill cloth?
  13. I deleted the photo of them on his KHorns but iirc he had a custom top so maybe that’s why they looked a bit too big but yes they look great! I want some for my KHorns, and put my silver pie badges on my Chorus II Maybe he can make these too as mine are a bit old and faded Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. He’s done it for a member here before so I know he’s got it I do think they’re slightly too big compared to the originals though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. How come he doesn’t have the Klipschorn cursive badge up for purchase? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Oh man. Those are so ready for a k402 on top. 🤤
  17. Awesome! [emoji1605]enjoy!! Now you have to listen to all your favorite albums all over again! Describe some differences you hear for us after some critical listening! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks. Do you think it was veneered with something different on the LF though?
  19. Could the bottoms be birch? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Well i guess ill find out after i strip the bottoms, but to me they look nothing alike
  21. I understand it's Fir Raw, but the tops only match searches for marine grade fir plywood as that 3rd photo which is a stock photo of marine grade fir. Regular douglas fir veneer looks like this in my searches:
  22. could the LF bin be birch or cherry veneer?
  23. It’s closest match I can find and it doesn’t look like normal fir veneer, but it feels like a veneer as it’s wavy on top The LF bins seems like a different veneer, they have a dark stain that I want to strip but the pattern isn’t the same with more vertical patterns and even what looks like figures in the wood if you can see in the photo: Where it’s chipped you can see the raw fir under Any wood experts out there that can help me out?
