  1. Well, looks like I had one of those legendary Craigslist days we all hear about - saw an ad for three Klipsch speakers for $120 and they turned out to be Heresy HIP (Heresy Industrial Ported)! They will not win any beauty contests - 7-ply birch with an ugly after-market stain job and some white paint spatter, and each speaker has three large metal eyelets drilled into the cabinets to prevent theft. (Given I paid $40 per Heresy speaker that didn't work very well...) Serial numbers all start with "84" and then the serial numbers (e.g. 01292). Does that make them HIP I or HIP II? If HIP I, does anyone have specs? How can anyone complain about a lack of bass in Heresy speakers? I've tested all three HIP in my 2-channel rig (swapping out), and with speakers poorly placed (see pic) five feet from the wall the bass boom is pounding my head! Are these a different spec from the standard Heresy 1? I'm thinking of running the Heresy HIP as left & right mains plus center channel in my 5.1 home theater, using KG 3.5 for the rear surrounds or possibly KG 4.2. Hsu Research VTF-3 Mk IV sub. Do Heresy's play well with the KG series? If I get RF-7's at some point, would the HIP's as rear surrounds and center still mate well? Thanks for the thoughts, thanks for letting me gush. I'm a happy camper!
  2. Would the RF-3 win out in home theater, or would you need the RF-5 to beat the Forte II?
  3. What sort of placement requirements do the Forte II's have? I hadn't considered the rear passives since I haven't ever owned a speaker with passives.
  4. I'm primarily looking for 2-channel and don't crank the volume. Finesse, detail, clarity are what I'm looking for. Currently up for consideration are a pair of Forte II's for $450 vs. Tangent 5000's for $400. Which would you choose and why; what do you think are the strengths & weaknesses of each pair? Would you choose differently if these were for home theater instead of 2-channel?
  5. I would not. Sell them. They actually bring decent money, and buy a set of real surrounds. I don't currently own them... but sounds like I shouldn't try to deal for them - thanks!
  6. Great. Now more of my money is going to leave... We happen to have an extra Technivorm and don't need it... if you have speakers to trade I'm all ears.
  7. I just did a search of this thread and found were no hits for "Technivorm." How can that be? For all of you who like drip coffee, Technivorm is the way to go. I get cups of coffee which are better than most high-end coffee shops and brews at parity with the best of them. 1400-watt heating element makes it the only manufacturer (AFAIK) that meets Specialty Coffee Association of America standards for brewing temperature 206 ° F, as opposed to typical coffeemakers which brew at 185° F. at best. We've owned a Moccamaster KBT 741 for 10-12 years now and it still brews like a champ. We later bought a Technivorm thermos to keep it hot for 2 hours, although the stock thermos is pretty good in its own right. Five year warranty but never needed it. Here's a link to good specs and explanation (I have no affiliation to the web site or the manufacturer): http://www.roastmasters.com/moccamaster.html
  8. No affiliation. If I were local I'd be calling... http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649288612-klipsch-lascala-speakers/
  9. Sorry, should have specified. KSM-12's, slant cabinets. Can't mount on the walls due to space, they'd have to be on the floor as rear surrounds. Only way to work in my limited HT space.
  10. Anyone using Klipsch Professional speakers in their HT setup? A buddy has a pair of wedge-shaped stage monitors and I'm tempted to use them as rear surrounds. How well voiced would they be for HT, and how do you connect from a home theater AVR to what appears to be locking 1/4" jacks?
  11. Wow, Frznivt, I didn't expect anyone to wax poetic about these. How much of their desirability is from being early models vs. how they are voiced?
  12. No affiliation. Anyone know how these would stack up against later Cornwall I's? http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/ele/5680209888.html
  13. How does th the RC-64 II compare to the RC-7?
  14. How well do you think they'd ship in their original boxes?
  15. No affiliation. Was looking for near my BIL but this is a bit of a stretch for him drive-wise... http://southbend.craigslist.org/ele/5672892447.html
  16. No doubt audiophile test tracks have their place, but let's face it: it's equally important to have some tracks handy for facilitating spousal / partner acceptance. So - what are your go-to tracks for justifying your latest audio purchase(s) to your spouse or partner? Whose favorite track is it - yours or theirs? Do you ever use a track so often they know before you tell them you just bought something? : }
  17. All of this is fine & good, but I'm surprised no one's mentioning best tracks for gaining spousal acceptance. Especially for some of the homelier designs...
  18. Valspar Black Satin makes good sense. I don't paint well so prefer not to make a problem worse, but worn spots have been bugging me. Thanks!
  19. I heard from a Pro-Ject dealer that the Debut Carbon has hum in the motor due to a bearing quirk. Any word if that's been addressed with the Klipsch-branded TT?
  20. As an original RF-7 owner I understand why they brought the RF-7IIs back after the RF-83s, but don't feel that an "RF-7III" is in the works--There may be some aesthetic improvements that could be made but unless their mission was to cut production costs I don't see them building a superior speaker at this price point. That's my 2 cents. @MattSER - As someone considering a set of RF-7's with upgraded crossovers, I'd be interested in your opinion as to what the RF-7 II has over the originals.
  21. I'm liking this thread already. Need to get my 2-channel sorted first though... Go plasma on the TV if you can.
  22. I have a pair of Epic speakers in need of touch-up paint. Any thoughts specifically for the MDF front face, which appears to be somewhere between flat and semi-glass black? What about for the black veneer on the top and sides? Thx, --Scott
  23. So plywood is best when shopping for proper Khorns, then? Why did they go to MDF?
