  1. I'm still confused. Don't pay attention to the SCREW color. Look at the barrier strip. It has a black section and a red section. On the new photos you posted, black should be the BOTTOM screw on both speakers.
  2. Thanks for the photos. See reply in other thread.
  3. If you compare this photo: To this photo: Based on the red color you added to the wires, they look out of phase to me. Specifically, the top photo looks wrong.
  4. Where are you located? Are you certain they're in phase?
  5. This is a duplicate thread. Main thread is here:
  6. ... and this is one I took through a window in Missouri.
  7. Another from the Palace of Fine Arts in SF:
  8. Here's another I took at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF.
  9. Mark Waldrep (Dr. AIX) has written a lot about it. He is not a fan. http://www.realhd-audio.com/?p=6046 I have not heard an A/B/X test but would love to.
  10. I don't see why not. Same drivers & horn depth.
  11. This is in Missouri, just west of STL where I live. These are just phone pics. I'm no photographer.
  12. This is somewhere over the western U.S.
  13. Today it is raining outside so I turned my attention to grilles. I liked the "big W" look that I think @Matthews and @MookieStl accomplished, so I made a template. Here's what it looks like in the bin: So I mark the sidewall of the doghouse where the line intersects, mark the side near the front and that's where the front of the grille goes. Easier than measuring and marking each one by hand. Also, I learned that the doghouses are not exactly centered. They're pretty close, but definitely not centered.
  14. I have a 9' x 11' room with the KHorns in two solid corners. 8' ceiling. The sweet spot is rather small, but they sound GREAT.
  15. The ones in front of the orange garage doors are known to be owned by a member here. That is a scam and has been reported. Should be gone from eBay soon.
  16. Aha. I finally get it. Sorry @cincymat. I am working on the 2nd LF section today and after replying to you and then getting the comment from @MookieStl I figured I must be thinking about something all wrong. In a normal La Scala, the hole in the back allows the squawker driver to exist. Without it, the driver would indeed hit the back wall of the cabinet. When you close things in like in a split, there is very little clearance. I mocked up the setup to see: That's the 3/4" front flush with a cabinet edge. And here's the other end of the 401 with the 55 attached: No room for anything at all with a 3/4" front! Even with the 1/2" front it'll be exactly as @cincymat and @MookieStl say it is. It is a very tight fit. Respect, gentlemen. I surely would have made a big blunder here. I'm sorry I didn't get it at all at first.
  17. Thanks for the offer, @cincymat, but I will probably use the 3/4" fronts. I don't really understand the depth problem - I'm building the HF section from scratch (except for maybe the fronts) so the depth will be whatever it needs to be to house the squawker too. Besides, these were factory cabinets and the squawker doesn't protrude on those - why would it be protruding now? Is a split HF section typically not as deep as the LF section? I was going to make the depth identical. EDIT: I'm completely clueless. See below. @cincymat delivers with wisdom, but like pearls before swine, I didn't get it....
  18. Ya know, if I used the 3/4" fronts I already have and 1/2" top, bottom, sides, and back, I could bypass this little issue.
  19. @MookieStl, thanks for noticing this and replying! This is awesome news since I haven't bought plywood yet.
  20. Heck of an AT&T bill. That AT&T stuff, the Duke Energy stuff, and the Allstate stuff is gonna nail 'em. Not too smart.
  21. Nice! Hope the payment processes quickly and you have those babies singing soon at your house!
  22. Another late night, no chance to do much. Saturday should be fruitful since the weather is supposed to be good and it doesn't look like I'll have much else to work on. In the meantime, last night I was thinking about the front corners. The ball corners I chose had three mounting tabs on them, but for the front corners I could only use two of the three tabs. I used a nibbler tool to remove one of the mounting tabs and a file to clean up the edge. After mounting the corner, I decided that it wasn't strong enough because of the missing tab, so I drilled two holes in the front edge and put 3/4" long #8 lath screws in. Looks like this: Rock solid now. More to come. Debating with @Hornographic on how to fashion the HF sections. You might remember that after I cut them off I was basically left with: a top board (which I re-purposed as a woofer door) an undersized front panel (3/4" of it went with the LF section because of how the La Scala is built) two worthless sides because of giant handle holes that the former owner cut into them. The sides could be cut up and used for doghouse braces. The front could be used as-is if I overlooked the missing 3/4 bottom edge. I was thinking for a while about using 1/2" plywood for the entire HF section to cut down on weight, but @Hornographic convinced me today that it'd probably be too flimsy. The more I think about it, I think he's right. I'll probably just pick up some 3/4" plywood and make fresh tops. If I do that, I'll probably use the existing front panels, and bring the HF bottom board all the way to the front edge to make up for the missing 3/4" piece. Once I put the metal edging on you'll never see it anyway.
  23. Today I received the grille cloth and it looks better than I imagined. I hope to post more soon. Getting ready to build the HF section.
  24. Yessir, you are welcome to host 'em for a time. Hoping to finish up one LF bin today (minus the grilles).
