My two cents on RPTVs... Back about seven or eight years ago I was in the market for a TV, I went into McDuff's (Radio Shack?) and looked around. I was not in the market for an RPTV, but was really impressed with a 45 inch Pioneer model set up with the other RPTVs. The price was ~$2300 and I negotiated a free 3-yr warranty (~$300) since the salesman was certain it would not fail (and I said if that were true, I'd never have to exercise the warranty). As it turned out, I did use the warranty to replace the screen which had some spots on it-no problem. I still have that RPTV and am ready to replace it (bigger model and it is showing it's years). I've decided on a Mitsubishi model unless I can afford a Pioneer Elite. Both MIts and Pioneer have great reps. The DPL model look intersting...

I have two sets of quintets. One set is the front effects for my home theater/music system (my Yamaha DSP-A1 supports this-rather well, I must say) and the other set awaits my constructing my surround sound system for my bedroom. I was using quintets as rears until I got a pair of Forte IIs and moved my Quartets to the rear. Now I feel like I'm underdriving my Quartets, but damn, it sounds REEAALLL GOOOOOD. Yes, the quintets are good, but they are not the kind of speaker for someone who expects alot from their system. As you upgrade, you can move the around and make use of them. Hell, bring 'em in to the office and enjoy. CT

kenratboy, Have you tried working the bottom end of the 4638s with something like the Beringer Feedback Destroyer? I've heard you can get to about 25Hz with this. I purchased the Beringer, but have not had the time to work with my *DUAL* 4638s. The SVS subs may get lower, but I certainly cannot complain about the music and movie low end I'm getting now (yes, my neighbors have noticed). I remember the schweet deal we got on the 4638s: $216.00 DELIVERED! Totally insane and worth every penny. Weighing in at 146 lbs, these beasts are gonna be really difficult/impossible to ship economically. Mine have become fixtures in my small home. Your best bet is to sell it locally for a real cheap price. Good luck. CT

Some Yamaha sound processors support front effects speakers and provide an altered (timed delayed...) output to simulate different sound stages and movie environments. I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 and really enjoy the addition of the front effects speakers. It's something that needs to be listened to in order to really appreciate; it's kinda like adding another dimension to the soundscape. I use Klipsch Quintets, which seem to work for me (right now).

Your price for the KLF-C7 is too high. I got a new one for less delivered.

Well, here's fair warning from an observer-keep it on topic and out of the gutter. That way, regardless of your opinion, everyone will respect it. Hey, if you think you can build better cheaper, go for it. But, listen to what others have to say even if it's not what you want to hear. I use Quintets for front effects on a Yamaha DSP-A1 based system and they work great, replacing a pair of KG 1.2s. They seemed more suited for the task since these speakers supply subtle audio. Yamaha uses these channels as time-biased channels off the mains to produce different spatial environments. I am not familiar with your Denon gear, but if your Denon already does 7.1, why would you need additional front speakers?

Boa12, I'm driving the 30s with my Yamaha DSP-A1, the mains (30s) set to large and the LFE/Bass output set to both (SW and mains). The main speaker wires connect to the LFE posts on the 30s and is bridged to the mids/highs with the gold plate bridge connector. Should the 12" woofers in the 30s use separate amping? At what frequency is the 2nd octave? I have to admit, when I first tested the KLF-30s (without the two JBL 4638s), I thought they were defective...not that much on the low end. Even after making sure my DSP-A1 was config'ed correct, I took off the speaker connector plates to make sure everything was hooked up internally. The horns on these throw much more sound than than the 12" woofers; I had to crank it to convince myself by sound and woofer movement that they were working. I guess I'm just used to heavier base now. I just wish I wasn't working six days a week and more able to enjoy them. Oh well...soon.
