  1. Since I already bit the $$$ bullet once with the Heritage Theater Bar @ over $2K, thought I'd check reviews on a couple of higher end active units.  The Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar rates fairly well for a 1 piece solution.  Reviews seem quite favorable.  No chance of ever hearing it in person without purchasing it though.

  2. @USER876  Slightly different situation here.  Need a wife approved & quality sounding low profile HT solution with minimal visual speaker impact.  As my 2 channel speakers already take up too much room in another area and we don't spend a lot of time in front of the big screen, hoping this new version of Klipsch Sound bars will be a viable option.  As you've already discovered, no reviews since they don't seem to be available as of yet.  Love my Klipsch in general but after returning the Heritage Theater Bar due to lack luster performance (IMO) and hearing just about as much negative as positive regarding the Bar 40/48, I am also interested in their new rendition.  Still very much disappointed that none of their SB's except the Heritage Theater Bar are available in any finish other than black.  Same with Subs.

ooooops , I thought you had gotten these -

Close but couldn't get back into town soon enough to make the deal.  I scour the ads for all of Alaska and sometimes can make the connection, sometimes not.  Just tried to snag a pair of Polk 7c's down in Anchorage but the seller is adamant that I don't understand how 'Horse Trading' works because I offered to immediately pay full asking price, sight unseen, if he could accept an online payment source and hold onto them until I made it down there.  He said he won't sell to anyone that doesn't come look first and has relisted at double the price!  People are all different.

my guess is @ThomasD.  picked up a really nice pair of Chorus 2 -

I tried.  Currently working 150 miles south of Fairbanks until this weekend.  Told the seller if they are still available Saturday that we would work out a deal.  He said he's the original owner but couldn't remember exactly when he bought the 2 pairs of Chorus II's he initially had.  Says he sold the other pair a few years ago for $1K also.  Kinda Funny that he claims to be the original purchaser/owner of 2 pairs but didn't know what they were?!  Anyway,  I told him they were manufactured in '92. Long story short, sold to someone else setting up a recording studio.  Swing & a miss.

The woofer was intentionally offset.  The pooling liquid is most likely from heat over the years causing it to run down and pool there it was to protect the pleats from decaying.  Looks like someone tried to widen the tweeter and midrange hole as they typically left the factory square cut.  Those are made of fir plywood they were the bargain basement version Cornwall.

@Frzninvt I get that these were the bargain basement version.  Just that all the driver cutouts including the woofs are cut out of round/square.  I'll clean the openings up as best I can.  My 5 other pairs of older Klipsch speakers have seemingly perfect cutouts and these really surprised me with their jagged edges. Just went to look at a pair of '74 Decorator Heresy's and the cutouts were all spot on.  I meant that the K33's were slightly offset in the cutout not the cabinet.  Guess I thought the woofer pleat treatment seemed strikingly black after all these years but maybe it is original. Will have to peel off the original owner applied  laminate & glue to see if the ply is salvageable or if they'll need veneering.  Also, trying to decide on either new Crites or ALK X/O's.

  6. These ‘72 Vertical Decorators are on my list for upgrading this winter. Planning on new x/o’s and veneer. Am I correct in thinking these drivers have been worked on?  Bright black and pooling at bottom of cone?  And the driver cutouts are really rough cut. The drivers aren’t well centered in the cutouts either. Was this normal from the factory?  Hope these aren’t a ‘homemade’ motor board. They’ll take some hand filing to square up the cutouts.

X/O’s are untouched.  Listening to them now and  like their fullness at lower background levels but can really tell they aren’t up to their full potential.

Compared to the black factory-paintjob it´s 100% better. Yes, they sound great, used to use a sub before but don´t have the space now. I wish i knew if there was a way to upgrade, for example with titanium tweeters. Probably could get some improvement through recapping...

Next will be some small risers to lift them up about ten centimeters from my desk. I already found all the wooden parts ineed on amazon.

Yes, Crites has the Ti tweets for the KG1's, same tweet as for most of the KG series.  I had him upgrade the X/O's on one pair of mine to compare to the un-restored pair.  Not a night & day difference but the Ti tweets absolutely smoothed them out.  Really a fun little speaker for their size & age.

The hiss thing is a very good point Tom.

Very valid point.  Night & day difference with my Marantz receivers SQ before & after being upgraded.  They power my Polk 7's & Klipsh's beautifully after restoration.  But why wouldn't you want to bring up to spec. or restore a nice vintage piece of audio equipment to realize it's full potential?  Granted, cost is always a consideration but for me, making the choice to purchase a vintage audio item implied the responsibility of eventually upgrading degraded components to really enjoy the true qualities and potential of that particular audio item.  Still have several receivers, amp & speakers in the que for restoration as time and $$ permit.  Not being electronically inclined myself, I've researched & acquired the expert abilities of multiple tech for my equipment restoration.  But still take personal pride in the fact that I've taken the steps necessary to bring some great equipment back to life for the benefit of the next generation to enjoy (hopefully).

That's a common misconception that I think comes from articles about low sensitivity speakers, especially in home theater magazines.

Some may say 10W is all you need, or 25W or even 50W.

You don't need a lot of power, they are 98.5 db sensitivity so it will depend on how loud you want to play. But even a good 25 or 50W amp is going to be mind blowing.

This is spot on.  My unrestored vertical CW's sound great on my Marantz 2010, 2215, 2230 & 4270.  Marantz and Heritage Klipsch are great partners.  But they also shine with a Dynaco ST70, all Carver gear or even my little chifi 3.5 watt APPJ amp.  Guess those CW's just sound good period! 😎

  10. DSP. Haven’t crossed that bridge yet but am very intrigued by the possibilities. Having a 7’ stereo console in Walnut made  just to appease my wife so that I can have a couple pieces of equipment, TT & vinyl storage in the living room. Built in H3’s at each end which in retrospect weren’t the best choice due to their slight bass deficiency. My Marantz equipment still have  tone controls and  since I’ve never been that much of a ‘purist’, I’m not afraid to use them.

  11. Talked to Al this past week. For the older CW’s he recommended either the CSW single  networks or dual network ES600/5800. Large price difference but he claims there is quite a SQ difference with the more extreme x/o roll offs. This hobby is a money pit regardless so If I’m investing in a full cosmetic upgrade of these it might be worth it, to me anyway, to see how the ALK’s really perform. Haven’t heard much negative feedback from LS / Khorn @Ol_mcdonald owners who have used these networks.

  12. @Frzninvt  Thanks for the reply.  Didn’t catch that on his website.  Noticed that the ‘Universal’ was changed to ‘CWS’ networks.  What about the ES series of networks?  Guess I better contact him for verification as the website seems to imply that some of his networks are compatible with most of the heritage models as well as other brands.

  13. Have an original pair of  '72 vertical decorators that are probably my end game Klipsch speaker due to availability/size/area/wife factors etc.  Going to strip and veneer to make them "socially acceptable".  They sound a little 'weak' to me, due no doubt to age so X/O upgrades are in store.  Have used Bob C's x/o's for my KG4's & Quartets and have been happy with them.  I realize that Bobs are basically updated clones of the originals. ALK's  networks seem to be a definite departure from original and they are mentioned here a lot though usually with LS's or Khorns.  The adjustability through xformer taps has me intrigued.  Al is approx. 3 months out on manufacturing so they must be popular.  Again, these are the early vertical CWII's (I know, not really CWII's but the tag clearly says CWII!)  Most gear upstream is either a Dynaco ST70, Marantz SS receivers or Carver equipment.  Anyone here with experience in using ALK's CWS's or Extreme Slopes Networks in CW's w/stock drivers?  Appreciate the input.

  14. Yes, too long for sure. It’s always been my dream to have a winter to do fun speaker restoration projects  I can find the projects but never seem to find the necessary time. Me being in construction and my wife working for Kroger Didn’t get us any time off this spring for the Covid 19 dilemma. Being able to work was a blessing compared to many but could have put some time off to good use.

now you can restore them to your liking -------are you good with woodwork   -or will you have some help -

That's kinda my line of thinking.  I've built 3 homes for myself and done some wood working.  Have some Quartets, KG4's, Polk 7c's & SDA 2a's that need veneering also.  Plenty of winter projects. 😃

I still have my pair of vert decorator Cw's  (retired) that I ordered in '72. In '75(retired)  I ordered my second pair (horz) in walnut. (wife)  I used the '72's on their sides as centers for the "75's .   Both sets were without question Cornwall 1's.. Don't think these are 2's.

but anyway, too much $$$   You can buy finished CW's for less

These are the 1st round of CW II's.  And the only pair that's shown up this far north in years.
