  1. The tops are bright and crisp in a good way, which I like. Without a crossover on the tops, they may blend just fine anyhow. Will try full range with subs first.
  2. Yes. Driverack. Can't remember the exact model, but it sounded AWFUL. Didn't last long at all in the system. I borrowed from and did a factory reset to start fresh.
  3. I've already had a xilica. I referenced that in my post above. The xilica is also 3X the price of the K231. I got the problem solved. Velodyne SMS1 for subs and I'll likely keep the speakers full range to avoid any issues with the xover. There is a lead time with the K231 and that let me think if that would be exactly what I was looking for. Fixed crossover point even with better SQ isn't real appealing to me.

Price drop. No one is interested eh?
  5. Glad they sold. Selling mine as well, hopefully I can get what you did
  6. All good man thanks. I need to do my research first. Seemed like a solid deal to me. Glad it sold quickly for ya. May be in contact with questions in the future.
  7. One day I'll see what all the fuss is about.
  8. Yeah. Kevin is quite busy and it would take quite awhile for him to build me something. I am content with what I currently have, but I'm always open to other options that take up less space, cost less and or sound better. Seems tapped horns are the go to here. Haven't heard any of the DIY horn subs discussed here, but I have heard danley subs live several times and was damn impressed (completely overkill)
  9. Anyone on here that lives in CA that builds subs and is willing to build something for me (compensated of course) ? Long shot, I know. Shipping would likely be a deal killer. Also, of all the horn subs, what sub would you guys say is the best combo of musical, dimensions and total cost? Would be nice to go to one sub to compliment my RCF HD32As that I just acquired.
  10. If I had to skills to build me a spud, I would likely do so. Great thread. I'm sure it's a beast of a sub.
  11. Eq. Always turn down what you don't like to boost what you do. The system is bass heavy. If you can't or don't want to do that, move the sub 6" at a time away from the boundary until the problem is solved. The sub is KILLER for its application from what I remeber. Get the tweeters at your ear and angle em toward if you can.
  12. @ClaudeJ1, wish you were closer man. You are a DANGEROUS gateway drug in the best HIGH possible
  13. Sorry that happened to you. Reverb is legit. Forte IIs in good shape are hard to find and fetch a premium. Where are you located? Perhaps you should post a WTB ad here in the "garage sale" section. If you can fit em, look for Chorus I or II also. They usually aren't far off in price and are a step up from the Forte line. Good luck on the hunt and welcome.
  14. Nope, all foreign. Nice heresies though.
  15. Crossover is necessary in my room. You heard my setup briefly with the sms1 in place. I had several 9 db+ dips on the sms1 from corner loading the subs (only option). And I don't want weird phasing between mains and subs either. 4 18's Will take care of all dead spots and as much output as one can handle. 30 hz filter on the low end of the subs is plenty for 90%+ of music I listen to.
  16. Owner of the company will customize for whatever you want via internal cards. He is making me an 80hz 24 dB slope 2 Way crossover. Risk free. Already ordered. I'll be very frank if I don't like the sound of it and return it.
  17. Yes, but I don't want speakers and sub overlapping. My room HEAVILY emphasizes bass. I didn't buy the speakers for bass reproduction. I have the firepower for that. I understand what you are saying however and you aren't wrong. I COULD use it as is. I wish the there was an 80 hz crossover option built into speakers. I have heard these hd32a several times (outdoors) and I was thpirjgly impressed. I'm really hoping and thinking that these will be 396 killers for a fraction of the price.
  18. Like you, I have not dove deep into digital xpvers and tried to perfectly time align and create a ruler flat response and so on. My ears possibly have heard the superior benefits of such a setup. The speakers are bougjt are active and internally Biwired so I don't know how useful delay would be in this case. Ropm correction I get and have heard/ understand the importance of. Once I get everything connected and I get a chance to listen, I will work on what I don't like from there. I'm not goign to attack a problem that doesn't exist yet. Joe, I'll let you know what I think. I did contact Marchand and have a discussion with him as well. Trying to save my pennies for school though. This system was put together with trades and getting rid of the rest of what I had to sell. I won't be throwing tons of money at this one. I hope to be happy as is with subyel tweaks as needed.
  19. Yes, 45 day trial. Only have to pay return shipping if I am not happy. Main reason I wanted to try it.
  20. Sure, I borrowed it from a friend and used it in a previous rig I had years ago. Added nasty haze to the highs, I couldn't listen to anything with it in for longer than a few songs. Xilica was the best digital unit I have personally used in one of my rigs thus far. If I don't like the unit I purchased, was only $15 to try.
