  1. I am building a mobile system:

    2 Klipsch KP-320's with Celestion CDX1-1747 Drivers

    2 Klipsch KP-480's

    MiniDSP DDRC88A

    2 QSC GX3's, 300W

    1 QSC RMX 850, 200W

Is it best to power the drivers with:

1 amp for the Horns L/R, 1 for the Mid L/R and 1 for the Bass, L/R Horizontal Tri-Amp?

    or

    1 Amp for Horn/Mid L, 1 Amp for Horn/Mid R, 1 Amp for Bass L/R, Vertical Tri-Amp?

    TIA

    Lon

Somebody tried this with the cloth from Crites? I´m in the process of re-wrapping the grilles of my Heresys, just in case I have to do corrections afterwards...

I have, works great, don't get too close with the heat gun and keep it moving.  You can see the fabric begin to shrink and keep it moving.  Get the hang of the motion along the edges, it may tighten up the center as well.

  3. Davis,

When they shipped my Jubilees, they wrapped the boxes with 3/4" plywood on the pallets then strapped them down then wrapped them in packing shrink wrap.  No damage from KY to MN.  If you can arrange the international portion, I'm sure they can get them to your shipper.

  4. You can buy the black grill cloth at critesspeakers.com

Then maybe you could have frames routed out of 1/2" plywood locally.

I did the same for my Jubilee bass bins.

The trick to shaping the cloth to the frame is to use a heat gun to help form it around the corners to the back before you staple it.  As you gently heat it, you can watch it tighten up.  Don't get it too tight at first, get it all wrapped and stapled then do a final heat application to do a final tightening.

    Good luck!

Here are my Klipsch Jubilee results.

    Measured 60dBA, 402 Horn w/AXI 2050, .18V

    Measured 82dBA, 402 Horn w/AXI 2050, 2.7V

    Measured 60dBA, KPT-KHJ-LF, .14V

    Measured 82dBA, KPT-KHJ-LF, 1.8V

Based on the comments above, I redid the measurements.

First I used a variac to calibrate the Motorola analog RMS meter to 1V on the 1V scale.

I set the levels for each driver to 0dB in the Xilica DSP.

Then in order to get the meter to read more in the center of the range I used more power.

    Measured 70dBA, 402 Horn w/AXI 2050, .40V

    Measured 90dBA, 402 Horn w/AXI 2050, 3.20V

    Measured 70dBA, KPT-KHJ-LF, .28V

    Measured 90dBA, KPT-KHJ-LF, 2.1V

For the 90dB levels I switched the meter to the 3V setting.

So I think I am measuring correctly, but if not please advise.

  6. You're quite welcome.  Yes they are all 8 ohm.

So I guess the 2 QSC PLX1104's powering the horns and bass bins are adequate!  Plus the 2 Sunfire True Subs make for a nice sounding system.

    Thanks for you input.

Time to put the beer ears on!

Yes I encourage anyone with the means to join in of the fun and build one themselves. Will provide schematic, bill of materials, layout etc...

To clarify my ask, I am hoping for a kit along the lines of the VTA ST-70 type kit.

Also, any chance of proper balanced inputs?  I would need 2 stereo amps or 4 mono blocks to power my Jubilees.

Thanks for all you do on this forum!

We have more trouble with shipping these things than anything else.  It's not just our carriers, we've had them damaged from Klipsch to us more than once.  Just very fragile with literally zero internal stuffing of any kind.  The box just collapses and that's that.  Even if they don't stack stuff, other customers tend to try to ship tall items and don't strap them down or whatever so stuff tends to fall.  Doesn't take much and you get a shattered 402 horn.  All we can do is deal with the fallout afterwards.  Either that or spend like $700 a shipment to rent an actual crate and pay for the extra weight.  Unfortunately it's just one of those things where you have to risk it, there's no good answer.

Your plywood and plastic wrapping solution worked very well on my shipment.  I am still in the process of reusing the plywood in other projects.  Good thing I have forks for my skid steer so moving them from the end of the driveway to the audio room was easy.
