  1. Confused ... Always thought PWK used Baltic Birch plywood in his Heritage (raw birch) cabinets ... But; maybe NOT? Currently trying a "new" center speaker; a Yamaha Stage Monitor (SM12, 12" woofer, 14x8" horn w/2" voice-coil ... yeah; know it is "blasphemy" but pretty impressed with it ). WAF is 0/10 due to "rat fur" cloth on the box. So was going to build a cabinet for it similar to a Heresy.. A local supplier has "real" Baltic Birch ... not the "crap stuff" from Home Depot. Looking closer, BB has about 12 ply's; all real birch and all the same thickness. When I checked my Heresy I's and Cornwall I's, they show 7 layers (unknown material) with a super thin birch veneer Disappointed ?? Was going to leave the edges exposed (as in the original HI's) , but undecided whether to use real BB or plain Birch ply. (Yes; I will probably be the only one that will notice it ) As a side question ... my HI's and CWI's are pretty dark due to age and many oil applications. Think Baltic Birch is even lighter than (C-2 natural) Birch, so wondering if I can ever match the color Many thanks, Emile
  2. @garyrc ; Thanks you SIR. Extremely informative Thanks a lot! Ordering a calibrated microphone FYI; I'm the crazy one who is trying a (blasphemy) Yamaha stage monitor (SM12, 12" woofer, 14x8" horn w/2" voice-coil) as a center on my AVR ... so far, think it is awesome ... Thaddeus Smith has done the same (his is a 15" woofer) and is pretty pleased with it also. L/R on this is now a pair of Heresy I's; flanked by KPT-904's on a seperate amp. Now, have to get rid of the "rat fur" box and make a nice cabinet for it ( acually for the wife ). @Wirrunna; Thanks for the great link. Very helpful! Cheers mate!
  3. Looking for some software and a mic to generate some room acoustics graphs ... just for fun After a little digging found REW software ( https://www.roomeqwizard.com/ ) and a miniDSP UMIK-1 microphone ( https://www.minidsp.com/products/acoustic-measurement/umik-1 ). But obviously I HAVE NO CLUE what I am doing so hopefully some of you can give me some guidance. Many thanks, Emile Add-on ... Primarily want to see how my current system performs ... but I am also planning on building an enclosure (WAF) for my current center speaker, a (blasphemy) Yamaha ST12IV stage monitor and would like to see the before/after results.
  4. Wow ... nice amps ... better be nice for $2000+ You may want to consider "vintage amps." Running my KPT-904's with a Marantz 2252B (52W/ch ... got it for $400 a couple of years ago) ... and my Cornwall's with a Yamaha CR-620 (30W/ch ... haha $120). Power is more than sufficient , but if you want "more" there are many good powerfull vintage receivers out there. I suggest Marantz, Sansui, Pioneer and Yamaha. Cheers, Emile
  5. Add-on ... Do not question Bob's expertise Just question "general" statements like "20 yr old xo's, they "HAVE TO BE REPLACED." Replaced mine in CW's ... to me it was a waste of money.
  6. Yes; I am really pleased with it Only tried it with classical and rock ... sofar ... AWESOME
  7. Thanks for your comment. Yes; "I question that." Sure Bob has tested enough xo's ... but guess my "ears" are not up to Bob's standards.
  8. I extremely appreciate Bob's opinions, honesty, integrity and comments. But he is not a Klipsch "GOD." I've spend thousands of $$ based on his recommendations. Some good; some bad. Yes; if he could "personally" hear my "stuff" I would follow his advise without any questions. But some of his advise is just "generic" ... like "yes; if your xo's are over 20 years old; replace them." Cheers, Emile
  9. Usually believe Bob. But think he is wrong on these. Tested them to 18KHZ (limit of my hearing ) and they sound very good
  10. @Thaddeus Smith ... just curious ... what do you think of your Yamaha "center" after you had some time to listen to it? Just got a pair of Heresy I's and think it makes for a great sounding A/V system with my 12" Yamaha monitor. Think I'll build a cabinet the same size as the Heresy's for it Yes; not up to my PRO speakers, but really great "presence" from these "small boxes." Cheers, Emile
  11. Changed to the CT-125's in my Cornwall's ... could not hear the difference Then, changed to xo's for new Crite's boards ... again ... no difference Maybe my ears are getting old But ... checked and can still hear up to 18KHz So; not convinced about changing xo's ... but maybe I'll try new caps in the Heresy I's I got yesterday Cheers, Emile
  12. Yes ... but these are just on my home 7.1 A/V system ... got KPT-904's on a seperate amp for "better" sound. Still very impressed by these "small" Heresy's. Add-on ... got the Bob Crites CT125's for my Cornwall's ... did not notice much of a difference
  13. Got a "crappy" pair yesterday. Couple of coats of Watco Rejuvinating Oil and Danish Oil ... they (almost) look brand new OK; got some smoked salmon left ... drape it over the speakers?
  14. YEAH; pretty sure these are the "real thing."
  15. OK; discussion is a bit "beyond" my level, but just had to "chime in." First; re the K-55 horns. Just picked up a pair of Heresy I's and I am AMAZED by the mid-range of these "little" speakers The K-55's sound awesome in these cabinets. Think my Cornwall I's have the same K-55 ... always loved the sound Second; re B&C drivers. YES; have B&C drivers in my KPT-904 horns ... K-691 horns? These 2" voice coil drivers BLOW ANYTHING AWAY Cheers, Emile edited ... said K-77 but was really referring to the K-55's
  16. Add-on ... replaced my K-77 tweeter diaphragm with one by SimplySpeakers.com ... https://www.simplyspeakers.com/klipsch-replacement-speaker-diaphragm-k77-89486a.html#tab-3 . (Talked to the General Manager and he assured me they were "NOT" the crappy Chinese ones.) Tested it with frequencies up to 18KHz (OK; that's where my hearing stops ) and it sounded very clear. (Heard the Chinese ones barely get to 15KHz.) Also tested it with Perlman's Tchaikovsky's #1 Violin Concerto ... very clear. OK; going to replace the second (working) tweeter diaphragm ... as we all know they have to be done "in pairs." Just my 2 cents. Cheers, Emile
  17. Hi, sorry but no help on your xo's or spade connectors. But just had to "chime in." Picked up a pair of 1980 Heresy I's yesterday (FYI; I have Cornwall's, Forte's and Theater Pro KPT-904's.) Never thought the "small" Heresy's would be any "good," but since everyone raves about them I had to get a pair I am absolutely AMAZED! The mid-range is SPECTACULAR! Have not done much side by side testing, but IMHO they are (OK; almost) as good as my Cornwall's and Forte's. Love them ... looking for ways to improve these One more ... sorry; but they are not in the same league as Klipsch PRO speakers. Cheers, Emile
  18. copied from another thread .. OK; thinking of building a box same size as Heresy's. Because ... ... just picked up a set of Heresy I's. Playing a piece of classical (Itzhak Perlman, Tchaikovsky's #1) and must say I am really IMPRESSED . Nice tonal quality and sound stage. Two hour trip to get them ... seller did not have any front teeth ... dusty/dirty cabinets, etc But think it was money well spend. Now; have to hide them from my wife before she get's back Friday ...no room in front of my KPT-904's Oh well; I'll meet her at the door with a glass of wine Cheers, Emile
  19. OK; thinking of building a box same size as Heresy's. Because ... ... just picked up a set of Heresy I's. ( @wvu80; for your records $400, condition almost 8/10, raw birch, one blown tweeter diaphragm - actually paid $200 and gave him some KG2.5's and 3.2's. ) Playing a piece of classical (Itzhak Perlman, Tchaikovsky's #1) and must say I am really IMPRESSED . Nice tonal quality and sound stage. Two hour trip to get them ... seller did not have any front teeth ... dusty/dirty cabinets, etc But think it was money well spend. 20. Hi Joe; sorry to hear you are "laid up" for a while. Yes ... good time to build an amp Take a look at the Bob Latino amps ...http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm . I got the VTA ST70 for Xmas last year and it sounds pretty good. (Overall consensus on the forum is mostly "excellent.") He also has bigger version the VTA ST120 as well as monoblocks. Plus, Bob's support is AWESOME. I made a mistake ... emailed him pics ... and he solved the problem. Cheers, Emile
  21. JEEZ ... Go get them $50 I just paid $40 for two of the Pro badges by themselves
  22. Just for the record ... got a response from SimplySpeakers ... Quote "we have never had any performance issues with these, and we sell a LOT of them. I am sure we would have heard of any issues by now. Occasionally someone (including us) goofs an install and gets a rub or poor performance, but its not due to the quality of the part. FYI, these are not produced in China, they are made in Thailand (if that matters?!)" EndQuote who knows Guess for $20 I might try one if I need it
  23. Response from Bob ... "Those are a cheap Chinese made clone that are simply terrible." So; DO NOT GET THESE! Cheers, Emile
  24. Hi dtel; strange to hear Roy say "no difference." Got a pair of KPT-904's and IMHO they sound MUCH BETTER than my Cornwall's. Sure the cabinet size is a factor, but the woofers are much heavier (weight) and the horns have a 2" (voice coil) diaphragm instead of the home series 1" (?). Sound is AWESOME Cheers, Emile
  25. maybe ebay?? https://www.ebay.com/itm/klipsch-k48-/292441405746 Cheers, Emile
