  1. $850 ... seems like a decent buy
  2. Just found these on FleaBay ... tempted, but just got a Crown K1 for my KPT-904's Brand new; 300W/ch into 8 Ohms ... $150 + shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Crown-XLS-402-Amplifier-Professional-2-Ch-300W-New-Retail-Box-Best-BuyCloseout/153356819725?hash=item23b4c75d0d:g:a1sAAOSwWz5b9JlD:rk:20:pf:0&shqty=2&isGTR=1#shId
  3. FYI ... had a set of 3002 pro speakers shipped to me via USPS (OK; was "in state.") for about $90. And ... those 3002's are about twice as heavy and much larger than Heresy's. Great buy ... would get them, but already have three of these
  4. If anyone is interested in trying some of these Crown amps ... found a XLS 402 (NEW) on FleaBay for $150 +$40 shipping. No clue about "this" model, but 2 x 300W into 8 Ohms. Tempted just to try it https://www.ebay.com/itm/Crown-XLS-402-Amplifier-Professional-2-Ch-300W-New-Retail-Box-Best-BuyCloseout/153356819725?hash=item23b4c75d0d:g:a1sAAOSwWz5b9JlD:rk:20:pf:0
  5. Great looking! If you cannot adjust the volume via AVR/other, I assume you can just use an potentiometer to control it ... someone with more tech savvy has to tell you the ohms value
  6. Good luck with the search. Believe you will be happy with it Did find a 2250 on "offer-up" for a decent price ... $350 ... of course not recapped and not serviced. https://offerup.com/item/detail/608456329/ (But, FYI, not sure I believe all sellers that state "serviced/etc.") May want to think about buying used and having it serviced by a local tech with a good reputation. Cheers, Emile
  7. Nah ... would have been on the "other" channel OK; obviously still looking for advise Thanks!
  8. Nothing ... clean as a whistle Think it might have been the connector going bad ... had them "stressed" a bit with the RCA cable and one just popped apart last time I took the plug off ... and of course the tip is still "inside"
  9. Hi All, Was hoping to get some advise/suggestions. Just got a Crown K1 amp for my KPT-904's. Had it hooked up "directly" (Onkyo RZ-810 "zone-2: direct to RCA / 1/4 inch adapters on the K1). Sound is AWESOME But of course thought I needed a preamp So, my local Record/Vintage stereo store had a Nikko Beta II preamp. Very few reviews, but most were very complimentary. Got it and hooked it up (preamp RCA to K1 1/4 inch) ... Now have a clicking sound (prob about 5 clicks/sec) and some background noise on ONE channel (left). Sound is very good if we "forget" about the clicking . Very strangely, when I turn the preamp "off," the clicking noise goes to the OTHER channel (right). I have NO CLUE Ordered some RCA to XLR cables to see if (pseudo) balanced cables would solve this. Haha; had to order these cables anyhow because (of course) the cheap 1/4 inch connector broke and now the "tip" is stuck inside the Crown K1 - hope that does not cause a problem - or maybe the clicking came from the 1/4 connector going bad. Just tried the Nikko Beta II preamp in my seperate stereo room. Very clean; no noise and no clicking at all. Help Thanks a lot, Emile
  10. Couple of questions for Crown K owners, haha and "other experts" ... Had my Crown K1 hooked up "straight" with RCA to 1/4 connectors. Sounded great. Next, put a Nikko Beta II preamp in-line. Clicking and static noise on left channel (even without an input). Strangely, when I turn the preamp off, the clicking goes to the other channel ????? Did check the Nikko preamp on another system ... no clicking / no noise Anyone have any clue? Would I need XLR/RCA connectors to solve this or is something else going on????? Many thanks, Emile
  11. Yeah ... love my Marantz 2252B ... but they are starting to fetch high prices. You may also want to consider Yamaha. I have a Yamaha CR-620 (35 W/ch) that I got off CraigsList for $100. Really, really nice sound. The next model in that series, CR-820, puts out 55W and you can usually find them for $150-$250. Next is the Yammy CR-1020 at 75W ... but "hard to find." (But stay away from the CR-**40 series; a certain part in it goes bad after 30 years and NO replacement. Last ... Sansui. Many consider Sansui the "best" sounding vintage amp. And they are still "affordable." Cheers, Emile
  12. Had some KG 3.2; pretty similar to the 3.5's. Pretty good speaker, but think the sensitivity is only about 90dB's, so don't expect to be "blown out of the room." Have a Marantz 2238B on RF-3 speakers (??? not sure; just using the woofers/horns in a vintage cabinet) ... good definition and pretty loud Had a Marantz 2252B (love that amp) on a pair of KPT-904's (OK; 105dB sens.) Blew me out of the house ... but since upgraded to a Crown K1 amp (350W/ch) as I wanted to "blow" my neighbours away also Seriusly ... think 50W/ch would be fine. Had wondered about about "not enough" power ... see my post Haha, or as @Westcoastdrums said, go for the "Pro" stuff ... you won't regret it Cheers, Emile
  13. Marvel, Thanks a lot for the GREAT info!
  14. Gary, Thanks Room is about 15x25x10 so 3750 cu ft. One side, and about 1/3rd of the back, is open to an area about 10,000 cu ft. Haha ... re the "don't let people near the volume control" ... They always try to turn DOWN my volume levels ... Interesting note on the R2R's; didn't know that (guess I never did it on "loud" Thanks, Emile
  15. Yeah; never heard any clipping with my 52W/ch Marantz on these 904, 800W speakers But; the 350W/ch Crown K1 seems (???) to give a "tighter" response.
  16. Add-on ... Have "no clue" why a 1 Watt amp at full power would be different from a 1000 Watt amp set to 1 Watt power would be different to speakers
  17. Hi All, Just wondering if "low power" amps hurt speakers. Had been discussing this with CrutchField, etc ... and they said low power will damage your speakers. (In my case, have a set of KPT-904's ... recommended minimum is 800W/ch ... used to drive them with a Marantz 2252B at 52W/ch, but now trying a Crown K1 at 350W/ch ... not sure if it sounds any better ... though think it's a "yes.") Know many of you (myself included) have driven Klipsch speakers with 1-5 Watt tube amps (and also low Watts SS amps). I never had a problem So; any truth to this or are "they" just trying to upgrade us to bigger amps?
  18. Here's the WindHam Hill soundtrack ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7F6kvEwaZc ... sorry; "embedding not allowed"
  19. OK; hooked up (temporarily since the damn power cord is too short to reach my power conditioner plus it doesn't fit on the shelf with my PC anymore ... about 2" wider than "regular stuff" due to rackmount and handles Jeez; have to get this "fixed" before my wife gets home tomorrow ) First impressions on the K1 ... LOUD (yes; as expected ... 350W/ch vs my Marantz at 52W/ch). 1/4 volume and think I'm at 100dB (guessing). Soundstage is AWESOME Bass seems "tighter" i.e. faster and more pronounced. HF sounds "crispier," again faster up/down. Waiting for the big chorus finale Damn, starting to hear inconsistencies; hope it is due to the recording OK; what else should I listen for??? OK; finale ... 4th movement, Freunde; Alle Menschen werden Bruder". Very clear, detailed ... just AWESOME ... OK; I'm on my third glass of wine Next, trying one of my "check the system out" CD's. Windham Hill recording, soundtrack of the movie "Country." Track 11 "The Auction," by composer Charles Gross. Track 13, "Epiloque and Hymn is pretty good also. Download it to try it on your system ... the hi/lows and especially the drums are just awesome. OK; trying to find my Dvorak New World Symphony with "thunder and lightning." Jeez ... where is it? Next, Itzhak Perlmann, Paganini Violin Concerto #1. VERY, VERY clear. OK; for you rock fans ... All along the Watchtower by (of course) Jimi Hendrix. Don't think I have ever heard it this clear and well refined Cheers, Emile
  20. Just going to hook it up straight from my AVR (Onkyo RZ810) via Zone-2 out for now ... playing Beethoven's 9th via my Marantz 2252B to "hear" the difference later . Could cannibalize the JVC P-3030 preamp from my stereo room, but think I want a "black" preamp now. Friend has a Nikko Beta II I could try/buy. Any suggestions?? (Haha ... keep it under $200 for a used one)
  21. Jeez ... turned out to be a 5 hour trip Hope it was worth it But ... need some wine first before hooking it up
  22. Haha ... "they" talked me into it Liked the "bells and whistles" on the new ones but was told they just do not compare to the old stuff.
  23. Really don't get this ... wants to make $400??? At least sell them for cost to Klipsch "friend" or put the on eBay for $1000 more
