  1. I would get a matched quad set of those russian military output tubes 6N14N-EB. They are made to withstand the higher voltage of the 7189 output tube. They are about 40 bucks a set for a matched quad. I run them in my scott 299a and they sound good too me they have been in the Scott for about a year and a half , no problems. You could always go NOS but get out your wallet.
  2. I think the forum is slower I have a dial up connection. I wonder if it will be easier to post pictures on the new forum.
  3. Charlieboy that amp of yours has got too be the nicest looking ST-70 I ever seen. What a peach.
  4. Here is a picture of the cabinet that I built for the fisher X-100.
  5. Here is a picture of a fisher x-100. Sorry its not a beauty I really bought it only so I can make a cabinet for the fisher model tube amps. I am looking for a good looking faceplate for this amp and a factory bottom cover, does anybody have any of these pieces for sale? As for as the fisher vs the scott I prefer the Scott it seems more well built all the controlls work smoother and just seems like a better built tube amp. AS for sound between the two I have no idea, this fisher needs a total rebuid it hums out of both channels real bad. I will post some pictures of my cabinet for the fisher X100 if I can figure out how too post pictures its been a while.
  6. Most of the time cleaning a pot will not last. It will start becoming noisy later on driving you nuts. The only sure way is to replace it. It's noisy because its cheap and worn out. Cleaning it will not put the carbon back. The only pots I know of that don't get noisy are wirewound five and ten turn precision made units and they are expensive. Good luck. JJK I have had great luck cleaning the pots on my old receivers, a sansui G-7700, SANSUI 8080. I have done several of my friends old receivers also and not one of them is noisy this has been over two years ago. Again all of these pots had holes or slots in them to spray the Caig deoxit in I had too drill no holes, I havent ran into that problem yet of drilling holes.I use too use that crappy radio shack tuner cleaner years past and it wouldnt last but about 6 months and the noisy controlls would come back. once I found out about Caig deoxit that has done wonders for me. MD1032, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TOO TAKE THE HOLE FACEPLATE OFF AND SOME BOARDS OUT TOO GET TOO THOSE CONTROLS AND POTS. Just be carefull and you can get the deoxit job done, I dont think you will find parts for your old pioneer. Just my 2 cents worth.
  7. Ya you need too clean all of the pots on the old receiver. Use Caig deoxit D5 you can buy it at parts express it is a web sight. Radio shack might sell caig deoxit but I think it is a real small can and exspensive. You need to take the cabinet off the receiver and also most likly the bottom cover there will be small holes in the volume pot and all other controls, spray the caig deoxit into the pots and rotate the heck out of them a bunch. Do this too all of the pots, let receiver sit for a few hours too dry a bit and then fire it up I bet it will take care of the problem.
  8. Joshnick, is it a factory cabinet? If it is I will take it and pay for the shipping. I build cases for the Scott models and this cabinet would give me the measurements I need for the fisher recievers. I am working on a cabinet for the fisher x-100 right now and am almost done with it. If its a factory cabinet maybe I can refinish it also and pass it on too a forum member because I really have no plans too buy a fisher receiver to much equipment laying around right now.
  9. First I would get a cd player instead of the computer for a sound source. Second try the 8 ohm taps on the mac, I am almost sure the the La scalas are 8 ohms if I remember right. Dont know if this will help the sound but worth a try.
  10. No doubt Texas42 is a class act, packs equipment perfectly for safe delevery too your door and is a pleasure to do business with. You need too get some horns for that 299b you will be amazed with the sound. Make sure you keep it biased its very easy too do with Craigs rebuild job and instuctions.Enjoy you venture into tubes.
  11. All I can say is WOW, they are a work of art a thing of beauty. Its amazing what people on this forum can do and the dedication they have to this hobby, hats off too you enjoy your la scalas.
  12. You have done one fine job on those la scalas. Very nice work.
  13. Im about 4 hour drive away, thats close enough, turn it up let me hear it.
  14. Ops should have kept my mouth shut didnt know that the scott 310e was so special.Looks like its worth a bunch than.
  15. Well I would say the cabinet is worth 100 bucks itself and the tuner in working condition maybe 150 bucks. If the tuner has been rebuilt add another 100 bucks.
  16. Still looking for a bottom cover for my fisher x-100. Anybody have one?????? Craig I fired this fisher up on a cheep set of speakers, it needs a rebuild. First off I cleaned every tube socket real good and all controls with deoxit. When I turned the unit on one of the 7247 tubes lit up perty bright and had a few sparks flying inside of it for about 1 second and then glowed like it should, I almost shut down the amp right then but it looked like it was alright and glowing just like its partner next to it. What I noticed next was the 12ax7 tubes they wouldnt light up, I thought they were dead or not getting power, after about a good solid 3 minutes they started glowing dim and after 5 minutes they looked normal it took forever my scott aint like that. So I had my cd player hooked to the fisher and hit play and the dang thing played music but had a lot of hum out of both channels the music would drowned the hum out thow. So next I checked the bias,it read about 20.4 volts on one tube and on down to about 19.8 on others, way to low. So I raised the bias up too 29.5 on the first output tube and checked the others which read 30.3v 29.4 volts and 29.8v.Then I went too pin 3 on the output tubes to see if I would be close too the 40v reading like you said but I ended up way high around 56.4v per tube give or take some. Why so high? Anyway this amp needs a rebuild and I will let it set before I mess something up by playing it, I did switch the 7247 tubes around to see if that one tube was bad or something but the other tube did the same, lit up brightly and had sparkes it it for about a secound and then ran normal. I think when turning on the amp this tube must be getting a huge surge of power or somthing.Anyway maybe someday I might get some parts and try to work on it or just send it too you I really only bought it so I could built cabinets for the fisher modles anyway, but man it sure is tempting me too get the soldering iron out and try and learn something about rebuilding this tube amp.
  17. I picked up a fisher X-100 tube amplifier on ebay its for from a beauty but it works says the previous owner, I want it manly for getting measurements to build cabinets for the fisher brand tube amplifiers. What I need bad is a bottom cover it is missing on this unit. Also the faceplate is all scratch up and is ugly as heck but at least it is straight and not bent up.Anybody out there have a bottom cover too fit this unit or a good looking faceplate? AS for the amp itself it looks like it still has the original fisher output tubes in it and also original fisher 12ax7 preamp tubes in it. The previous owner put in a new sovtek 5ar4 and says the amp works. It looks mostly stock except for an output tube socket that has been replaced. Im not going to run this amp on any good speakers it needs a going over, I might have it rebuilt down the road.IF I do try it out I will hook it up too a set of junky speakers I have laying around just to see if it works but first I need to figure out how too bias this amp, I will see if I can find a service manual or talk to Craig about how too bias it. Also I think it has the original seliniem bridge rectifier in it and I think everybody says those need to be replaced before using an old tube amp.Anyway does anybody have parts laying around that I need. Thanks
  18. Looks like you need to move the cone up so it comes in contact with the surround. That is another thing shimming the voice coil helps with is that you can hold the cone up where you need it to match up with the surround.I guess if you are not going to shim the voice coil you need to find some way to hold the cone up maybe try the pencil trick that greg mentioned.
  19. Don what do you mean by suspension grove, are you talking about the raised or cuped part of the surround? I dont get why this surround dont dry fit right, it should, when I did a set of Mach ones the replacement surrounds dry fit real good.I dont think you should put them on backwards, are you talking about fliping the surround upsidedown and then putting them on? I woulnd't do this. Also you will need to cut out the dust cap and shim the voice coil other wise you take the chance of the voice coil rubbing and running your time and effort. Check out my thread REFOAMING A SET OF MACH ONE WOOFERS, I have over 20 pictures of the refoaming job should help you out a lot, I think the tread is in the updates and mods section of the klipsch forum. I really dont understand why the replacements dont dry fit, they should.
  20. From what I have read or picked up on this forum a 6u8, 6u8a, 6gh8, 6bl8 or called phase inverter tubes, at least that is what I remember people calling these tubes. What they do I havent a clue, Craig can tell ya thow what their purpose is.I run some jan phillips 6u8a in my scott 299a and they are dead quit, nice tubes and are cheep, cant go wrong with these.I tried other 6u8a and 6bl8 tubes in my scott I cant tell a difference in sound between them.
  21. I have an HK 630 (old Dual Power supply unit) that is occasionally malking noise. Fiddling with the bass or volume control seems to make the noise go away. I would like to clean the inside of the unit, and clean and lubricate the switches. I have never done this before. What products do I use, where do I get them and how do I do it? I use Caig deoxit on the pots and switches of all my vintage stereo equipment works great. You can get it at parts express.
  22. Man what a deal, 84 models same as mine. Might just be a fuse on the woofers that is blown check that first, I think the fuses are on the panel where you hook the speaker wires too.

  24. Randy. From what I have read up on the Mach one takes a special surround. The Mack one is a 15 inch woofer but is actually somwhat smaller than regular type 15 inch woofer. So I figured those fit all type foam surounds wont work they are to big from what I am told or just wont work for some other reason.I found a guy on ebay that has the foam surrounds that are made only for the Mach ones. He goes by the mame of moonlistener, and also has an ebay store called MSOUND. He sells all kinds of foam surrounds for other speakers also. If you type in MACH 1 REFOAM on the ebay search you will bring up the kit I bought. He has a BIN on them for 26 bucks I think. Right now if you type in 5741585233 it will bring up the mach one surrounds he has up for action at moment.
  25. Well this is the last picture thank god, I never knew I took this many. Here is a picture of the mach ones with their new refoamed woofers. Not bad for my first refoam job. OH HOW DO THEY SOUND,I HOOKED THEM UP TO MY SANSUI 8080 AND THEY SOUND DANG GOOD, LOTS OF BASS. I am really happy with the refoam job and cost about 35 bucks for the kit which did both speakers. So dont throw those old classic woofers away just refoam them. Hope this might be helpfull for any one that might be interested in refoaming thier speakers.
