  1. The tweeters are stuck in VA (see attached USPS tracking). I've been in touch with the local Postmaster who has spoken with his counterpart in VA. Any day now the package should be plucked from the black hole and sent to Michigan, at which time the CT- 125s will be sent to California and the K-77 will be headed to Arkansas. Tracking.pdf
  2. I didn't know there was going to be a test. If I did, I would've bought the book.
  3. I've seen the replacement cover for the SL-1200 for $79.95 plus shipping. I'm afraid $20 reproduction or NOS dustcovers went the way of 8-tracks. In any case, the SL-1200 cover is different from the SL-1300, SL-1400 & SL-1500.
  4. I'm specifically looking for a serviceable dustcover for my Technics SL-1500 (same dustcover as SL-1300 & SL-1400). I'm aware of new reproduction covers on eBay for $152.70, including shipping. If I pay that much for a dustcover, it will be attached to a used TT. Scratches do not concern me; cracks and chips are a concern. Whole TTs, working or not, are of interest. If you have anything that seems to be what I'm looking for, please send PM or email. Thanks,
  5. A pair of unused Selenium horn adapters purchased from Parts Express are free to a member for the cost of actual shipping. Get specs from http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=264-322 If interested, send PM or email.
  6. Free to a member. Just pay actual cost to ship from Birmingham, MI, a pair of brackets to flush mount CT-125, K-77 or T-35. If interested, send PM or email. These are headed north to Ontario (did you know you can also go south to Ontario from Detroit?), where Greg, aka K85Horn, will put them to good use.
  7. A single round magnet K-77 in excellent operational and cosmetic condition is available to a member for $50 + actual shipping cost from Birmingham, MI. If interested, send PM or email. If you like, I will include a pair of Crites mounting brackets (permit flush mounting of T-35/k-77/CT-125) at no additional cost, if still available. They will be separately posted as free for cost of shipping.
  8. Go for it. Watch a YouTube video, or 2, about soldering. Use a small (~25 watt) soldering iron; do not use a soldering gun. Use ~ 60/40 rosin core solder; do not use acid core/flux. Good luck and keep us posted. The following thread might serve as inspiration: http://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/62250-four-abused-lascalas-need-a-good-home-sold/page-2 BTW, be careful with that 9v battery. You could easily fry a tweeter voice coil. A 1.5 volt is safer, but not fool-proof.
  9. While the forums were on hiatus, I got my eBay Technics turntable (see: http://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/145944-bargain-turntable/) up and running. I've used the Reg Williamson cleaning sysyem (see: http://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/145942-the-best-way-to-clean-preserve-vinyl/page-2#entry1661254) to clean some used records. In some ways the QD-1 does more than expected, while in other ways less. On the whole, I like it. I'm glad Dave got me started down this path. I feel like the prodigal son. As Dave predicted, well recorded live analog (vinyl is my only available analog source) sounds best. For example, Sheffield Lab's, The King James Version sounds very good, as does John Mayall's The Turning Point. The improvement is subtle but real. Get used to the 3-dimensional depth and then switch to front speakers only and the sound collapses to the front. At the other extreme is mono. Dave Brubeck's Jazz Goes To College is a well recorded mono LP. It has none of the "hidden" out of phase information on which the QD-1 relies. Nonetheless, to my ears, when not perceptible as a sound source, having some information from the rear speakers lends depth to the experience. To my surprise, even the digital offerings of Pandora seem to benefit from the QD-1. The system is set up in the far less than ideal space of my basement office (see attached crude drawing). The "listening space" is behind where I toil at a computer. The 1st floor joists are exposed, forming the "ceiling" of the basement. Listening to Pandora via iPad or smart phone connected to my H/K 630 receiver via Bluetooth sounds very good. It doesn't sound as good as a vinyl recording of a live performance, but it sounds better than without it. The biggest surprise is the sense of depth perceived even when at the computer with my back turned to the whole set-up, including the "rear" speakers. Office layout.PDF
  10. Other ways to clean records, such as steam cleaning, work to varying degrees, but, in my opinion, they don't work as well. The MOST impotant (IMHO) aspect of the Reg Williamson system is Part 1, the anti-static treatment. Until the static charge is defeated, nothing can remove more than the loose surface dirt. The grime bonded to the depths of the grooves in the vinyl by a static charge can't be budged. If you follow Part 1 and treat vinyl with ant-static, then any form of cleaning has a better chance. One indication of the limitations of other cleaning methods is referenced in the Reg Williamson article. If too much anti-static is used, nothing removed it except the PVA facial. Repeated trips through a fancy record washer could not do what a PVA facial accomplished. As to posting the sources, I plan to do that after I confirm a reliable source of CYASTAT SN. My source was kind enough to send me 8 oz. gratis. I can't repay that kindness by sicking the whole forum on him. As soon as that issue is sorted, I'll post the recipe and the sources. The links to videos will probably precede the source list.
  11. I understand the desire to quash "SHOUTING," and I'm OK with the solution. Nevertheless, audio has many abbreviations that are more than one capital letter in a row, e.g., If I wanted to post the following in the Garage Sale forum: FS: JBL monitor, will trade for MCM bins it will come out as: Fs: Jbl Monitor, Will Trade For Mcm Bins Which looks better? To my eye, it's the first version. YMMV, which in a Topic Title becomes Ymmv, LOL, or Lol
  12. The videos are in the editing process. So far, the results are as good as expected. Bargain bin records are rendered clean, shiny, static free and immune from static in the future. Except for physical scratches--ice skate tracks and the like--treated records are dead quiet. The problem will be locating enough Cyastat SN to meet the demand. I'll get a kit to Mustang Guy soon so that you can get his evaluation.
  13. The CT-125s are yours. I'll let you know the postage. The round magnet K-77 is still available for $50 + actual shipping.
  14. Congratulations Boxx. I don't always retire, but if I do . . . . . .
  15. "Remember... you are an attorney and things could get out of hand..... lol...." Already with the name calling
  16. I believe each of us sees our own. If you show me yours, I'll show you mine.:-)
  17. Does this mean Parrot and the other miscreants have been given amnesty? I can forgive and welcome back just about everyone but Clarence.
  18. This "CapiTaLizatioN cOntrOL pLeaSe." got turned into the Topic Title shown above. I'd prefer to choose when to use Caps, or not, in the Topic Title. In any case (upper or lower) it's nice to have the forums back. It'll take some getting used to, but soon it will seem familiar. Must we check "Follow this Topic?" to see a list of threads in which we've posted?
  19. It's great to have the new forums up and running! Nonetheless, it would be be appreciated if we could choose to capitalize, or not, in the Topic Title. "WHY can't I be Trusted to choose caps or NOT?" was turned into what you now see as the Topic Title.
  20. Both are SOLD $150 + actual shipping (probably less than $15.00) takes all three. Or $100 for the CT-125s or $50 for single round magnet K-77. All work and look great. If interested send email or PM.
  21. "wearhouse" Is that some sort of clothing store?
  22. I just ordered 4 small plastic spray bottles from China on eBay for $3.09 shipped. They're useful for spraying on the Cyastat anti-static solution if it's not mixed into the "slurry" -- I just love the British jargon throughout the original articles. Eventually, I'll put together a few kits. Mustang Guy and Schu are first and second in line. Watch this space.
  23. I am one such individual. Let me know how much. Also, if you could share your sources for the products you found, it would be great. I have a few friends who are AVID vinyl listeners, so I could stand to make some batches for this to share with the group. I will do just that in a few days. In the interim, forward the TAA articles to your friends for their edification and amusement, but remind them the information is from the 80s, so the sources mentioned are dead ends. As indicated, locating the Cyastat SN was the problem, but it's also the KEY ingredient. I eventually spoke with the very helpful Brent at Cytec (American Cyanamid) who solved that problem. With 8 oz of the stuff, I'll be your best source of that for the foreseeable future. The DuPont Elvanol was easily located online for about $16/pound. Four oz will treat many records. Everything else is available from Amazon. I'll compile all of the sources into a single pdf after I do the demo videos. Turns out Brent (of Cytec) has a Yamaha TT in mothballs and was intrigued by my request for Cyastat SN. I emailed the TAA articles pdf to him. That's why he sent 8oz, when a few drops are all that is needed to treat many records. He and I agreed it would be shared among fellow vinyl enthusiasts.
