  1. The following is in response to several emails received through this forum. It is posted here to provide general guidance to possibly interested parties. Any shipping arrangements must be made by a serious buyer. For example, I sold a pair of Cornwalls that were—I was told—headed to a Klipsch museum in Hope, AR, being set up by Mrs. Klipsch. Her agent contacted a local packaging and shipping store (like a UPS store) regarding the crating and shipping arrangements. All I did was deliver the speakers to the local business. After that, all expense, effort and risk were between the buyer, the buyer's chosen agent and the shipper. That business's website is: http://www.pakmailferndale.com/ I have no personal experience with that business and make no guarantee regarding their integrity or efficacy. I doubt if that would cost the extra $500 one ostensibly interested party indicated a willingness to pay regarding shipping. Delivery to the buyer or the buyer's agent will only take place only after cash is received or the funds are in the seller's bank account. Certified checks, money orders, etc. that purport to reflect an extra amount for shipping will not be accepted. If all of the above seems too onerous, take comfort in the fact that I’ve conducted successful transactions with several of the more prolific posters on this forum. They’re known to me and I to them. If an unknown “buyer” is scared off by reasonable precautions, then I’m concerned about that “buyer." Feel free to contact me through this forum via email or PM. If you already know my email address and or cell phone number—you know who you are—feel free to contact me directly. Thank you for your interest in these classic speakers.
  2. The right ('56) speaker has serial #1096. These photos are included in the zip file attached to the initial post.
  3. The serial # of the left ('54) speaker is 779.
  4. I believe the first LP (monaural) was released in 1948, the same year that PWK made the first Khorn. The first stereo LPs were released in 1957 in extremely limited quantities. I would be surprsed if PWK claimed any clairvoyance regarding the future of multi-channel music reproduction. Instead, he was always interested in accurately reproducing the sound of live music with as high a level of accuracy, i.e., in high fidelty, as possible under the state of the art. Not until the fidelity of multi-channel recordings surpassed the fidelity of monaural recordnings would PWK have gravitated to stereo. I'm ceratin the prospect of selling two speakers, rather than just one, did not displease him.
  5. David, I like your avatar. Imagine the Cups the Wings could have won if V.K. had worn a seat belt and if the limo driver weren't a stoner. Go Wings!
  6. Weird! I did not alter the color of the original photo. Your investigative results are consistent with my experience. My PC has IE8 and shows blue. My laptop has IE7 and shows red. No other colors are affected. For example, The Red Wings logo in Picky's avatar is always red, whether the car in my avatar is blue or red.
  7. Now this is a surprise that it's blue to two others. I'd assumed that it was a problem with my PC. The sample is very low, but it seems that Firefox always displays the avatar in red and that IE shows red sometimes and blue sometimes.
  8. Hi Glenn, How about that Spartan, Justin Abdelkader? The blue car mystrey remains, but only when viewed on the PC through Internet Explorer. If I didn't need to use IE in my businesss, I wouldn't use it at all. In fact, I'd consider going to Mac, if so much of what I use in my buisiness weren't PC dependent. When using Firefox on the PC, the car is red, and when using a laptop, the car is red, irrespective of whether viewed with Firefox or IE. It's a puzzle. I really need a new PC. The existing one is >6 years old and has other issues. In addition to the expense, I dread having to take a weekend to setup a new computer and move all the needed files, not to mention being forced to learn VISTA. GO WINGS!
  9. While posting a thread in the Garage Sale forum (Khorns $1,750), the car in my avatar mysteriously changed from Detroit Red Wings red to blue. Anybody know why and/or how it could happen? I suppose I can reload the original picture. If the red had turned to black or gold I'd suspect a Penguins conspiracy.
  10. Here is the 1956 (right) speaker. EDIT: 07/05/12 The color issue with the avatar referred to below was resolved, somehow. Now if I could just figure out how and why the car in my avatar went from red to blue, I'd be happy. If it had turned from Red Wings red to Penguins black or gold, I'd be really unhappy.
  11. This is the 1954 (left) speaker.
  12. EDITED 7/7/09 SOLD EDITED 6/22/09 SALE PENDING EDITED 6/18/09 A friend recently inherited two Klipschorns from her father who bought them new in 1954 (left) and 1956 (right). I've offered to help her sell them for a fair price to someone who'll appreciate them. She's now asking $1,550 for the pair. They're in suburban Detroit and must be collected by the buyer or the buyer's agent; they'll not be shipped. They'll not be separated. If someone wants only one, they can buy the pair, keep one and sell the other. If they don't find a good home through this forum, they'll be listed on Craig's List. The photos (a zip file with all photos is attached) are identified as "left" referring to the 1954 speaker and "right" referring to the 1956 speaker. As the photos demonstrate, they're in decent cosmetic shape but they don't match. Remember, in 1954 stereo was not yet a reality so speakers were rarely purchased in pairs. That being said, her father bought the second one in 1956, still prior to the general availability of stereo. All of the drivers are functioning. The left ('54) speaker has an EV T-35 that has apparently replaced the University tweeter (similar to that in the '56 speaker) that probably came with the speaker. The crossovers are original, i.e., they're crying for new capacitors, although there was no evidence of leakage. I didn't open the bass bins (which gave no evidence of ever being opened since built) to confirm the woofer manufacturers, which would probably be University or Stephens, as Eminence were not used in '54 or '56. Please contact me, Neil, through the Forum via email or private message with questions or comments.
  13. It works. I tried this when the Forum went through its last "improvement" and it didn't work. Thanks for the tutorial!
  14. Soon you'll be able to buy a Chrysler X-19
  15. Dennis- Please elaborate on what is seen in the two photos above. Is the upper version essentially your modification with a slot replacing the two tubular ports? If so, is that done primarily for cosmetic reasons? Does it affect (either good or bad) the performance compared to the round ports? More information regarding the PPSL unit would also be appreciated. Is there more than one driver? From the photo, it's difficult (for me, at least) to envision the final configuration and its operation. Last, how does one load more than a single photo into a post? Thanks
  16. The speakers in the photo above turned out like this. Not pretty enough for a living room, but more than suitable for the high school band practice room where they now reside.
  17. Kriton- djk's mod has been done many times. Much information about it can be found at the following link: Ported La Scalas? That link will take you to a thread with several other links about djk's bass reflex modification to La Scalas. As to beater La Scalas, they don't start out much worse than these.
  18. Michael, You posted this in the never ending Chart Room thread. Where did you get it? My wife and I actually laughed out loud. I laughed so hard I passed a chunk of fish stick out my nose, it bounced off the couch and landed in my coffee.
  19. Appropriating the name La Scala for one of their products is not their only sin. Their motto is: "If there was a better way to build speakers, we would do it." Bo Bengsston While they're apparently trying to speak in the conditional, the verb "was" is past tense. I believe they meant to say, "If there were a better way to build speakers, we would do it." The implication being that there isn't so they haven't. Instead, they suggest that there might have been a better way but it's now been lost. They also misspell Maserati as "Mazerati."
  20. " . . . the exploding diagram that DizRotus posted in this thread." Let there be no misunderstanding! I posted the excellent picture that my friend Bruce aka Marvel (he bought one of his H/K 430s from me) created. Now if we can only prevail upon him to explode a Klipschorn and a Jubilee.
  21. The ported La Scala is strictly DIY. As to sound, most who've done it prefer it. I would do it to any La Scalas I owned, plus it's fully reversible. The opening at the bottom is for acccess to the woofer. The following thread link: Ported La Scalas? will give you more info on ported La Scalas than you want, including links to other threads with links to other threads. It's sort of an audio Ponzi scheme. Isn't the Internet great?
  22. The Bug has a bigger horn, but the MX5 has stereo! How many car audio speakers help your car do a wheelie?
