  1. Michael- Can you tell I'm excited about the exchange?
  2. All speakers "require" 1 watt to make some noise. Almost all speakers will "play" music with as little as 1 watt. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The difference is that efficient speakers, like Khorn, La Scala, Cornwall and Heresy[1] (in descending order of efficiency) will actually play music at realistic levels with as little as 1 watt. With efficient speakers, its more important to have a few clean (low distortion) watts rather than mega-watts. Speaker efficiency is often counter-intuitive. Small speakers, like my LS3/5A mini-monitors, require a lot of power to sound good, whereas large speakers, Like Khorns do not. You cant cheat the laws of physics. If you try to get low frequencies and/or high volume out of small enclosures, you better bring lots of watts. [1] There are other Klipsch speakers (as well as other brands) that are efficient, but I've got no experience with Klipsch, other than Heritage.
  3. A Google search produced the Fort Wayne Truck Plaza. It's just off I-69. Unless Michael has objections, that looks like the place.
  4. Truck stop's a good idea. We can hook up the La Scalas to my laptop and serenade the truckers and their . . . "friends." Now, if we only knew a specific one. We can't have Michael driving around Ft. Wayne listening for diesels.
  5. A nice looking pair of Cornwalls with a low reserve. Klipsch Cornwall Speakers<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  6. On eBay at Lowther Klipschorn vintage Brociner cornerhorn Klipsch you will see a Klipsch licensed, EV driver Khorn bass bin with a Lowther mid/treble.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Id never heard of Brociner. The third picture reminds me that I havent had my morning coffee.
  7. That's the plan then; woofer first. I'll post my impressions and some photos. Thanks.
  8. Please recommend a place in or near Ft. Wayne, Indiana where Michael Colter and I can enjoy a good lunch before we swap two of "four abused La Scalas . . ." for cash and a pile 'o' Advent stuff.
  9. Bob, The caps and K33 arrived yesterday safe and sound. Nothing I've read in this lengthy thread has caused me to second guess my purchases from you. I'm eager to collect the La Scalas from Michael Colter on Monday and then get them ready for delivery to the high school. In refurbishing the La Scalas, I'll try to be as scientific as possible and change only one variable at a time. Ultimately the AA networks will get the new GE caps you sent, and the "new" Eminence Gamma 8 ohm woofer in one of the speakers will be replaced by the K33. I want to try to hear and discern any differences between the old and new caps and between the Gamma and the K33. Which would you change first? My plan is to listen to them as they are for a while, then change the caps and listen some more, and finally swap out the Gamma for the K33. On the other hand, perhaps getting the woofers to match prior to refurbishing the networks will allow any differences presented by the cap change to be more apparent. Whadayathink?
  10. Picky wrote, 'Sing with me: "Oh, when those Allen Park Jaguar fall in line......."' ". . . they're going to win the game in half the time. They're going to fight, fight, fight for victory . . . " Not that it matters, but it's only Ft. Wayne. Michael's kind enough to meet me half way. I'll owe him lunch.
  11. Picky, Those look great, as does your garage. In my dreams my garage never looked that good. You want to ride shotgun on a trip to meet with your buddy Michael on Monday? Never mind, you did mention that you picked up your prizes after WORK, so you're probably unavailable. How about those Jaguars? After listening to my college roommate (27 years ago) sing the AP fight song in the shower daily, I learned it involutarily.
  12. Michael, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Youre incorrigible. Isnt there a recovering Klipschaphile you can call to talk you down before you hit the bid button? Now you need to get rid of two pair of LS to reduce your net Klipsch count.
  13. Yea. Take a trip that doesn't involve more collecting . . . . . but only AFTER we meet in Ft. Wayne to exchange a pair of La Scalas for the pile 'o' Advents. At least your're reducing your Klipsch inventory. On the other hand, perhaps we should just set up a stand on a corner in Ft. Wayne and sell the Advent stuff to the residents of Ft. Wayne's world. The purging might be cathartic.
  14. A trip to Ft. Wayne will straighten you out.
  15. Where do you put the soap? Oh, never mind, I just realized it's a dryer.
  16. Where on the web did you encounter these?
  17. Thanks. That means we're an hour apart. We'll plan to meet at Noon Central Standard Time (Chicago and Inidaina) which is 1:00 PM (13:00 hours/ Michigan/New York/Eastern Standard Time). That means that I'll be even more hungry. We'll touch base Sunday PM or Monday AM to confirm the time and location of the rendezvous.
  18. Michael, Please refresh my recollection. Is the Hoosier state now on Central Standard Time? In other words, when it's noon in New York what time is it in Indy? I figure we should meet around noon (local time) in Ft. Wayne on Monday.
  19. Michael, You've done very nice work. Which one do I get in exchange for the pile 'o' Advents?
  20. There once was a man from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Burton Of his opinions he was always certain When they passed out the humor He thought they said, Tumor So he hid behind a curtain.
  21. In my opinion, no. Others feel that the the larger Ptrician/Ggeorgian, etc. go lower. For elaboration on both points of view, see Electro-Voice-EV-Corner-Horns-Georgian-Patrician . Some people prefer the attack of La Scalas and use subwoofers that do not rely on horn loading to provide the deep bass. As with most things audio, there is no right or wrong answer, just whatever produces results you like.
  22. Dennis, Send D-Man aka Dana an email or PM through the Forum and he'll get back to you. To some degree there is a semantics problem involved with your query. To some, a "subwoofer" implies output below 30Hz, i.e., a Khorn type folded horn does not qualify. Others, including the guy at the Volvotreter site, use one (or more) Khorn type bass bin to augment the bass and call it a subwoofer. If your goal is to reproduce really low bass, e.g. below 30Hz, then a Khorn type bass bin, including Patrician and the like, is probably not going to meet your expectations. If your goal is to produce tight fast bass above 30Hz, then a folded bass horn is a viable option.
  23. Yes, we know, but are you actually taking a shower at the time?
  24. You're probably correct about the current K33 not being the same as that used in the Cornwall. Does anyone know how many versions (if more than one) of the K33 were used in the various Klipsch applications? If there were multiple versions, it would be useful to know the specifications of the various versions.
