  2. Stop by sometime and I'll let you compare the 4806 to my McIntosh 2 channel gear.
  3. There's some real bargains to be had when it comes to "older" receivers and preamps. I picked up a Denon AVR-4806 (new MSRP $3,500 about 10 years ago) for $180 last year and it will embarrass a lot of high-end separates in stereo or surround. Sure, it doesn't have the latest and greatest from Dolby but it absolutely smokes modern surround receivers that don't have a preamp & amp section this good. I'll take audio quality over feature lists any day.
  4. I think he likes my CF3's.

    A Score

I once bought a Sunfire True Sub from a scorned wife for $25. Gotta protect your gear if change is in the air.
  6. Just buy a cardboard tube that's the same diameter. Cut to length then keep an eye out for the correct one.
  7. Well, it's probably about time I posted in this thread as I seem to have an "Epic" problem. Bought my first pair of CF3 v1's without even knowing the history around them. The seller was moving from Southwest Wisconsin to somewhere in TX (San Antonio, I think). It was a long drive but I paid his full asking price of $250. They're Medium Oak and in very good condition. I didn't even listen to them for a couple weeks, figured they sounded like most other Klipsch speakers...until I hooked them up and sat down. WOW Awesome soundstage, killer dynamics and the detail they convey would embarrass a lot of premium speakers. I've owned KEF, NHT, Martin Logan, Magnepan, Boston Acoustics, Canton, other Klipsch models and these CF3's are among my all-time favorites. So then I start thinking about home theater. I try replacing my KLF-C7 with a KV-4 but something doesn't sound quite right so I stick with the KLF-C7 and let the KV4 gather dust. Then I start thinking about rear speakers and it's then that I hatch this crazy idea of a full CF3 home theater. I posted up ads on Craigslist, US Audiomart, etc.....nothing for weeks....I setup keyword searches across the web....still nothing that's within a drive-able distance. Then I get a response from a guy in Southern Minnesota who claims he has CF3 v1's. We finally connect and start talking about audio for about 40 minutes non-stop. It's clear this guy knows speakers and Klipsch. I make the drive down and finally lay my eyes on....ANOTHER pair of Medium Oak CF3 V1's. Except these are extremely well-preserved, only showing minimal marks. We land on a purchase price of $800 (price is factoring in the value of some older KEF's I traded plus some cash) and I haul home pair number 2. I also picked up another KLF-C7 from the same guy - love that center. Which leads me to today....I had spotted an ad on Facebook Marketplace for Klipsch CF4's. Trading some messages with the seller, it was clear to me that they really didn't know what they had and would probably struggle figuring out v1, v2, v3. I decided to take a leap and commit to buy them sight unseen since the price was only $300 for the pair. While I didn't strike gold with a third pair of v1's this time (they turned out to be v3's in Black), it's tough to argue with the price. BTW, I'm still on the hunt for a third pair of CF3 v1's. The next theater setup I do will have a CF3 center. So if anyone wants my CF4 v3's, I'd love make a trade.
  8. Listened to them at loud volumes all weekend. Did not notice any rattles.
  9. Do it! These do not disappoint. Make me a reasonable offer and they're yours.

  11. While I might agree with your dealer if we were discussing the entry-level lines from Denon Marantz Onkyo, etc but if you're looking at the flagship from those brands that's a different story. I've been using top-tier receivers from Yamaha & Denon since the late 90's (anyone remember the Yamaha DSP-A1?) and have been impressed with the build quality, sound quality and features list with each of them. I still have an old Denon 4802R that isn't being used but I'm reluctant to dump it because no current receiver under $1,500 can touch its sound quality. Someday I'll setup a second home theater in the house or give it to my son when he moves out.... Ask your dealer how long he'll let you compare the ones he's pushing to your current setup in your home. If he really wants a sale, there should be a reasonable return period offered.
  12. Interested. I'm in western WI near Hudson.
  13. I have a pair but I'm in western WI near Minneapolis Minnesota.

  15. LOL, if anything I've bought too much stuff as of lately. Currently looking at 8 pairs of speakers and a few subs in my family room.
  16. Yeah, I agree that the price is very optimistic but kudos to the guy that at least puts a price out there as a place to start. Too many "make me an offer" dreamers lately that treat pricing like some top-secret guessing game. Figure out current values, decide if you want your price to be lower than average, above average or right in-line with current prices.
  17. Not mine. Great color, wish I was closer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-CF-3-Speakers-in-Walnut-Version-1/302758624453?hash=item467dd1fcc5:g:x8oAAOSwfshbFEax
  18. So tempting. I wonder if my wife would notice if I upgraded my center channel speaker with this.
