  1. it appears the strapping is correct, but the connection is wrong (1&4). move the blue(red) to terminal #2 and you should be fine. great woofers!
  2. He has called around Seattle, and will be taking the speakers to Speakerlab for testing and repair if needed. I will post updates as I learn more. Thanks for the info, and the offers to help. Chris
  3. m00n, I was asking because I have seen Skeletor a number of times on the R&R board. That and a number of Pitbull threads. Just curious.
  4. m00n, do you spend time on craigslist, portland? Just curious.
  5. Bill Gates: went to my high school. I knew his sister Libby better Paul Allen: went to my high school. Adam West: same story. Alex Trebeck (sp?): gave him my french fries in the Chicago airport. I got the last batch and he was late for a flight. John Miner: CFO Intel. I remodelled his house and am on a first name basis with him and his wife.
  6. I may have missed something here. Is the Jubilee badge the SAME as the Pie Slice logos I have on my '67 Corns and '73 Scalas, or something different? For those of you that have the "forum" Pie slice logos, is the rounded top of your logos beveled like the 2 sides, or perpendicular to the speaker face? My original pies are beveled on all 3 sides, my "forum" copies are only beveled on the straight sides. Chris
  7. Ben, you're right. Honestly, I was surprised because I had heard that poodles were used as watchdogs and could be quite vicious. A quick google search revealed that "Canis Familiaris Aquatius" was indeed a water dog AND that the haircut actually served a purpose. Many of us might benefit from checking the facts before assuming that we know the truth. Personal fears and beliefs play a role in everyones life and we all are entitled to have them, but they are not necessarily the truth.
  8. m00n, he's a mix. The guess at the Humane Society was Pit, Lab, and Sharpei. I guess that he should be shot, then given a medal, and then a skin tuck. If someone were to break into my house, the dog would get them before I COULD even think about it. I don't have him for protection, but for companionship. I'm afraid of some Pits, but I'm more afraid of Dobies. Don't any of you want to ban Dobermans, or are they "better" now that Pits are in the news?
  9. No m00n. My point is that simply because you "feel" a law should be a certain way, doesn't make it law. If I found someone stealing from me I would want to stop them, but at "all cost?" I'm not going to shoot someone for breaking into my car or stealing my bicycle.
  10. "I feel as though that's the way the law should be. " That's the problem.
  11. It's true. http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040928-040057-8015r.htm
  12. After posting, I found this picture on eBay of what I ASSUME to be one of the same units. Dean, (and others) does this picture tell you anything? Thanks for the offer to help. I vividly remember that, as a child, these speakers were almost magical. Until I heard my first pair of Klipschorns when I was about 14.
  13. I will see if he is willing to open up the cabinets and take photos of the innards. He is using some of the same equipment, and some new. The speakers have been in only 2 houses, and have been in the same position now for 30 years. I know his hearing has changed too. He has worn a hearing aid for the last 8 years. He also only started complaining after he spent some time listening to my Klipsch setup. Thanks for the help so far, Chris
  14. My father has a pair of Tannoy "Stuart" model speakers with Dual Concentric 12" Gold Monitor. He thinks they don't sound as dynamic as they did when purchased new in the '60's. He is in Seattle and I am in Portland, so I can't look at them first hand. Does anyone know if these speakers have crossover networks that would degrade over time like those in my Klipsch speakers? If so, would any of the crossover gurus on this forum be willing to take a look at them and remedy any existing problems? Thanks! Below is the information he provided me from the labels. Metalic sticker says the model is Stuart, the serial number is S 1621, and then has 12" M. G. #61740 There is also a paper stapled to the back which says LSU/HF/12/8 and then 061829. It says Tannoy England. There is other information like "Dual concentric with plug-in cross-over network and dynamic balance and roll off control unit. Chris
  15. He's usually fine. Just watch out when that one eye goes yellow!
  16. Humanity is already stained, just by someone trying to sell this. I started weeping a looong time ago...
  17. Michael, I don't know for certain if these are factory risers or not. For any historians out there, these La Scalas are type K-447, with the woofer access door on TOP of the doghouse. I don't know if these "theater" versions came with risers from the factory or not. Mine did, but then I bought them used. The cabinet plywood is Fir, painted black. The risers are also painted Fir, 2 x 2's (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") with butt joints held together with nails as well as, for lack of a technical description, a "wiggly" blade of metal driven into both pieces of wood at the corners. Not a home job, I wouldn't think. The outer dimensions of the frame are 22 1/2" x 21 3/4". For anyone considering a La Scala riser, you might do well to find the thread on the ported La Scala mods. By removing the "normal" bottom woofer access panel, and having this open INTO the riser, you create a larger back chamber volume. With porting, if I remember correctly, the bass response was strong to 37Hz or something crazy like that. Have fun. Chris
  18. Sounds like it's time for new furniture! Maybe there is another veneer the two of you could agree on, or do it in Oak and paint it down the road if it bothers you.
  19. I believe the SM 120 to be a 500Hz horn, compared to stock Klipsch at 400Hz.
  20. m00n, I don't know if this picture will help or not. The front speaker is a black designer model, without a grill. My opinion is: if you are going to spend the time and money to reveneer those cabs, make them look like a fine piece of furniture (exotic wood) and not a nice but industrial looking speaker. Especially if they are going to be in the house. Black on black is pretty, well..., black. My $.02 Chris
  21. My '73 Scalas CAME with risers. Since I have never heard anyone here talk about Scala risers, I can only assume that they are not original. They are constructed from 2 x 2's, with no plywood, and measure 21 3/4" x 22 1/2". I've never used them. Chris
