  1. Well Hells Bells Boys, To Dampen or not to Dampen... the CWs? I.B. Slammin
  2. We used a Dyna Quad Adaptor. I think I paid a big $40 for it, but it didn't Buz. I finally learned to listen to good recordings regardless of music type. (well not country..too hard to get the cow piles off of the TT) And in those days, the old Empire/Rabco was kept in another room in an attempt to keep the arm on the vinyl. I.B. Slammin

I felt the corns fell apart after supplying them with way to much current. So i switched to a pair of k's and a pair of lascalas. Then i got the ear bleeding heart pounding bass that i craved in those days. Not to say any of them sounded good just loud. Hell i was olny 19 years old what did i know ? ( not much) Now i'm 39 and have went through more components than i can even remember as well as a few sets of speakers. So through the last 20 years i've realized a few mistakes along the way and like i said before " I wish i never sold the corn's " . Great hobby this audio stuff is !! ---------------- Dale,I understand. In collage, my roommate and I had big bell bottoms, platform shoes, 2 Khorns, 2 Las center, 2 Las rear (Quad Man)and 2 harsh, cold, snappy old DC-300s. Even then most of the realy HARD music that I wanted to listen too sounded bad on a horn system. Many ears bled. But in 1969 the system just scared hell out of most people. Men ran, girls cried. And yes, many mistakes were made along the way. The biggest mistake was loosing the shoes!
  4. Poor old Jim. Unemployed, medical bills, car was REPOed,wife left, homeless and sleeping in the shipping crates his second pair of cornerhornes came in. Can we help? THE MAN NEEDS A CENTER CHANNEL DAMN IT! One must prioritize in this life. A man after my own heart. John E. got in touch with me and we will talk soon. Thanks Jim. I.B.Slammin
  5. Fini, My wife consoles me by saying that the size of your calk is not as important as how long it clings to the horn. I don't believe her. Dale, When two CWs are lacking in db...Try four... I.B. Slammin TNC
  6. MH I agree. The CWs are transparent. The Cormwall may require some room tweaking and a good source...but well worth the effort. Being voiced like PWKs cornerhorn, they can sing. Unlike the Khorn bass that rolls and flows like a wave across the floor,....CWs can be like an "explosive boot in the chest". I.B. Slammin tc
  7. Art, I have been out of town. The stuff will be in the 3 day mail Mon. 2/17/03. Hang in there... I.B. Slammin tc

  9. As a child of the 60s.......... I don't remember ever listening to Khorns and not thinking "could we turn it up a little". (if you can remember the 60s....you were not there..) In the early 70s a Marantz TV commercial stated "Don't turn down the volume..turn down the distortion". I can't remember sound that was too loud if it was CLEAN. But then again...the 60s I.B. Slammin
  10. Artto, Thanks for the reply. I understand about doubling the centers. I used an old 7-T preamp with a center output and one Mod-H having a better (PWKs Curtain of sound)effect. I need to buy or build a center channel output control for the Holman preamp that I now use. Any suggestions? Ran a pair of Crown DC-300s for a few years. Crown is a little cold and "snappy" for my taste of late. Anyway......We have yet to address TO MUCH POWER. Headroom. Can one have too much? Tim Taylor PS: I knew better than to speak SS in the 2-channel spot. I.B.Slammin
  11. Sorry about the double post. I have a hard time getting out. Would love a copy of the papers at any resonable cost. Does this include the old Bell Labs stuff?
  12. My fellow Arkie (Andy HDBR)has chastised me for driving my four CWs (flank)and two Mod-H (centers) with two 440w per channel Luxman M-117(BTL). I'm like a sixteen year old kid with a 427ci Vet....I put my foot into it at times. The Lux's are clean, smooth, and stable with "tubie warmth". I have yet to blow anything. Diaphragm excursions are minimal and the SLAM is incredible! What am I missing? Anyone? I.B. Slamin

  14. PS: I guess I should have mentioned that when I get a haircut... It is self inflicted with a pair of tweezers. The curse of an old "long-hair".
  15. HDBR, Im a bit older than you. Help me. What are these guys talking about?
  16. Bought my first unfinished CWs in 1972. I think they were called "decorator finish" at that time. According to my wife .... they were not "decorative". 1974 bought the oiled walnut....sold the unfinished to a friend. As I understand it, PWK did some degree of research to provide a transparent grill cloth. In my opinion, "transparency" is only achieved with No grill cloth. In 2000 I bought the "72s back from my friend. When demonstratining 4 CWs to the non-believer(Bose Owners), the cloth is off. Point.... The finished motor board is...DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!
  17. What do I know. I had to go to the dictionary to find "FOIBLE"!
  18. I liked the Chorus.....and stopped there. Take this with a grain of salt. Been slaming with four CWs for thirty years.
  19. OK... Im a nice guy...But you pushed me to it. If it does not sound good FLAT.... Don't give it away...Throw it away....

  22. Yep, I agree. CWs from 1972-2002.Tried every placement. Long wall application is best. If the sweet spot is not there.....try two Heresy center channels for that "curtain of sound."
  23. Good Job Andy, To quote the master, " Don't adjust my speakers...Adjust your room." PWK referred to them as BUZZ BOXES. What goes in...... tc
