  1. Colin, The only problem I am trying to resolve is that my wife and I tend to have differences about what is acceptable listening levels. Hmmm gee imagine that. So, she has suggested that I take and build my very own theater outside in our extra building. It used to be a 3 bay tractor garage. The previous owner fixed it up to somewhat of a hapital living space. It really is a perfect place for this. So, my issue is, should I put it in the section that has a vaulted ceiling or a non vaulted ceiling. Both rooms are completely sepparated by a wall, and both rooms are carpeted. Mostly I was just wondering how the extra openess of the vaulted ceiling would affect the overall sound quality. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  2. I have a building here where I could build a dedicated theater room. There are two section of the builing I would choose from. Both are the same size, however, one has valted ceiling the other does not. Which room would produce the better accoustics? ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  3. Ya, thats cool. I guess Infocus has a projector. I seen a review of it at Home Theater Magazine ... My neighbor works for Infocus in their corporate head office here in Oregon. I just wonder if he can get me an employee discount. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  4. Ok so I have the sound. But now I want to start looking towards the future of video. I know next to nothing in video just as I did with audio a month ago. So, I was hoping to get some insight from all of you as to what is better, plasma, or a front projection system. Which is clearer? I have never seen a projection system so I can't compair the two. One of the things I like about going with a projection is that since I already have sound, I don't need to worry about speakers. What I would be paying for is simply video. However, I have noticed that bulb replacements are rather spendy. I am not immediatly looking to buy, heh as a matter of fact, I will have to save for this purchase. My goal is to have a nice chunk of money in two years so spend on a nice TV, sooner if all goes my way. Anyway I would love some insight. Thanks all. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  8. Hey Rick try right clicking on one of the images, then click the save as. Save it to your hard drive, open it up in one of your graphic editors. If all you have is MSPaint, go download something like Paint Shop Pro from www.download.com. I think it has a free trail period, at least long enough for you to download it and print it. I think it even has some resize options. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

Ya, that guy has a great voice. Not bad, my wife and I like them too. Boa12... Here it is at Amazon I think one of my new favorite bands is 311. I love how they bring Rock, Reggae, Funk, Rap all together. 15. The sub is actually set at 0db. We never messed with it at all. For that matter, I don't think the harman kardon has any test tone adjustments for it. I mean, I can adjust the volume in the OSD, but there are no test tones that get cycled to the sub. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  17. Ok so hold on... I'm getting confused now. Here is what we did using his meter to adjust channel levels Turned the master volume of the reciver down. Went into the OSD. Set all channels to 0db With the test tone cycling through the channels, I turned up the volume on the receiver until the meter read 75db on the center channel. Once the center was at 75db, we began measuring the DB levels of each channel. Made adjustments all around until they were all reading 75/76 dbs. This is or is not the correct way to do this? ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 05-09-2002 at 02:36 PM
  18. Ya know I have been a California / Oregon boy all my life and I hate to admit it, but I have never been to Reno. I must go. Actually I would love to get a job transfer down to California. We have a major campus in Folsom which is very close to Sacramento. I enjoy gold panning and what not and there is a LOT of gold in the Sierra Navada Mts... Heh, thats how I could support my new home theater upgrades... Gold panning. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  19. USparc, you play your RF3s at that level? Also what is "tFTP"? So once, my speakers have been balanced, your saying crank the volume all the way up to 0db? Wow, that MUST be loud. I was impressed at -25db. I will give it a shot when I get a chance, but I admit, I am a little skittish about it. Oh and by the way, why do receiver volume levels start at negative numbers and increase towards 0, rather than start at 0 and go positive? ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  20. USparc some comments from your other post. quote: In most manuals of THX receivers this is explained. Here it goes: Go to the level settings of your receiver. Make sure that the receivers level is at 0dB. Play the pink noise on your receiver. With an SPL meter you have to set all your speakers at 75dB. (Yes with klipsch you have to go under the 0dB, mine are -10dB for the fronts). The 0dB is the THX reference. If you set your receiver at 0dB you are watching the move at THX reference level. So, everything is balanced to 75 db. Well it was bouncing between 75 and 76 dbs. We started at 0db all the way around, did the speaker level test on each speaker and raised the volumes as needed. But the one thing he did different was that instead of lowering the volume of two fronts, he raised the volume of the center to balance the three. Should he have lowered the two fronts rather than raise the center? ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  21. Absolutly, the Pod race is awesome. I guess I never mentioned it because I thought it was a givin. Ya know, someone comes over and you want to strut your stuff right? Well you put in The Phantom Menance and play the pod race. Kinda like milk and Apple Jacks, they just go great together. Urrr, hmmm I hope that analagy made since. Actually I think this movie is a MUST HAVE for any home theater. Not so much because it was a steller movie, but becuase it has some outstanding sound affects. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 05-09-2002 at 10:03 AM
  22. Hey... Sorry it took me so long to respond. I think I'm going to have to back out on this deal. If it was a RC7, then I would be on it like white on rice. But for now I think I am set on speakers until I get an amp to push a rear channel. Sorry guys. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  23. I guy I know came over with a meter and balanced my speaker levels. Made a nice difference in the overall quality of sound. I had the surrounds cranked way too high when I had my old R3s and after getting my R7s I never bothered to go back and balance it by ear. Anyway, I never noticed it until AFTER he balanced the surrounds to the fronts, but when a nice surround affect would happen, you would hear it clearly out of the front, then boom you would hear it out of the surround almost givng an empty sounding spot between the fronts and surrounds. Now after having them balanced, it has a much Much MUCH smoother transition from the fronts to the surrounds. They blend very nicely together now. Admittidly they are not as loud, but the sound quality is much nicer now. ------------------ the m00n system FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  24. There is a MUCH bigger audience difference between this site and a gaming site. You have to figure a lot of people that hang out in game forums are imature teenagers with attitude issues and nothing better to do that cause trouble. This kind of forum has the tendancy to draw an older more mature audience. An audience with a lot more curtisy and respect for other people. Belive me, I know. Even though I'm 35, I love to play online computer games like Tribes 2, Quake III Arena and what have ya. I see lots of the kinds of issues you mentioned. I just ignore it and pass it off as some punk showing his a$$. I too was a snot nosed sh1thead once.
