computer crime, identity theft are two things that really piss me off.

I am working with the FBI on this. They are incredible. We'll get these guys and I'll tell you who they are when we do.

  2. My TC 765. Has one issue many of you can fix easily. The audio output card has an issue. Simple card and easy fix as schematics are available on the web. I know that is the issue as the VU meters show I/o and the volume works.

These go for 1500 on EBay, but for my Forum friends I'll take half that. But wait, there's more! I'll  throw in my DBX noise reduction system. With it, you get recordings equal  to any digital file type...0  audible noise at any volume level.

  3. Didn't read all the above, but must add this. Few know that Bob was one of the finest nuclear power plant engineers in the world. He didn't talk much. I asked Bob once if Fukashima was mishandled. He said with one other guy he could have gone in the next day, shut it down, and been home. I knew Bob, and I believed and still believe that.

Tonight, however, Pink Floyd's Animals is hitting the spot for some reason.

Thank you, Michael! Going to have bad weather here and time to stock up on meds. Trip to our friendly neighborhood Red River Medicinals which is staffed by my former students (taught them well in Entrepreneurial Management 4612) and then home to Animals!

  5. Too much play and not enough total abandon make Dave a dull boy. I will put up some results of my experiment in moding a VST RIAA plugin to deal specifically with all the various flat as Death Valley earliest discs to RIAA of the late 40s. I sold my Empire 598 Mk II that was dedicated to 78s as well as the awesome Rek-O-Kut Re-equalizer that, with 57 different curves provides audibly perfect EQ for any 78. Problem is they cost 450.00 now and, while well worth that, I really could see why hardware should be necessary.

So, it's codn' time again. Only took about an hour and it worked.
To replace my Empire, I purchased a Dual 1229 in mint condition for a 125 bucks as it is good enough. If the TT adds or subtracts nothing from the music the rest of the money is spent on vanity in my experience. Put an Ortofon 2M on it at about 300.00. Ridiculous overspend on that, but heck, I love my 2M Black and figured it needed company. The Stanton AL 500 that I had on my Empire is about 75 bucks and, Crikey...we are talking speeds, mass, huge grooves such that you could probably get decent sound with a straight pin stuck through the bottom of a paper cone cup. That's horn loading, too. Did exactly that as a kid and it sounded quite decent. For a preamp, there is only one that is unsurpassed for 78's. The Technolink TC-778 RIAA Phono Preamp from phonopreamps.com. 70 bucks. So, for the 600 my friend gave me (the Empire alone is worth at least that) I replaced the entire chain for change over 400 and appear to have achieved an improvement like Klipschorns over Bose.

Hooked it up and recorded to my Tascam DA3000 in DSF. Again, overkill but it's the one I bought to archive PWK's 400 reel to reel records and flat from DC to light, so might as well. Transferred the files to my HT PC and played them back through the modded RIAA VST. Set it manually by ear the first time as was overwhelmed. As writing about sound is like talking about paintings you'll have to wait to judge for yourself.

Think I'll be spending a LOT of time archiving more of my collection. Did about 20 this morning. Here's one. "All Shook Up." Original worn, but good condition. 78s were bullet proof except for breakage. Even then you can glue them back together and use impulse noise filters to get rid of the pop.

  6. As said in another post, we have changed the schedule to start with Hope and Klipsch, then Menomenie, Wi, then Portland, OR (to see the SS Tortoise visit her builder David Larson), and finally the big one. Menomenie in a couple of weeks, Portland in April, and the Great Circle in June.

Shouldn't have too much fun all at once, donchaknow. At least, no covid to worry over...guess we'll have to actually reserve rooms when needed. Oh, well.

I'm glad that you didn't tell us then.

I hope you know I try to be honorable with all Forum posts and in the real world as well. What we say here has no effect on the facts...which will be demonstrated regardless of what we think.

  8. OK, a bit of a twist but directly related to YFSR.

Have three "stringers" from the Forum doing stories now, Thebes being one. Jeff and Carl the others. They will be paid for their efforts by me as follows. 300.00 for the first 1k likes from social media...any of them including this Forum...and another 500.00 at 5k.

Email your location, ideas for stories from there, and personal description. Not looking for a resumes...just reason for you interest and any background info on your abilities to do short stories with narration, sound, and video.

Submit a short story with promise and you are in. YFSR is mostly fun, part news. Also may be local history, mysteries, famous people, places...damn near anything!

Email to your4statesreporter@gmail.com. Include phone number and Forum name.

  9. @thebes @carlthess40 @tidmack @Chief boneheadThis thing has gone viral and we already have Tesla, Cadillac, Nabors Drilling, and a couple of more large sponsors on board. With the big navigation to see the steamboat, which was 2k miles and only one stop planned (rest was to be targets of opportunity of which there are plenty) now having grown to include over 7k miles and the complete borders and costs of the United States only a lunatic would not hold until all his crew said "ready!" and we have a LOT of logistics to plan. Looks like early summer now at best.

So, what to premier with? KLIPSCH, of course. Hey, I am the boss so we do what Dave wants to do. Working with some folks you know at Hope to do what will be at least an one 60 minute program, more if it's really great shit. We will tour the new museum (visited it today and it looks wonderful)  and the current one with Jim. Probably the plant as well. There are other home and such that are PWK landmarks there we'll visit as well. I'll keep all informed.

  10. @carlthess40 @thebesThe book ghost writer will be Carl Hess of this forum and YFSR will be visiting him very soon. He'll need to find a room for his choice of Heritage. Looking forward to working with you and seeing you, Carl.

Oughta let him buy his on Klipsch as the books will be probably ten volumes and more fun than Harry Potter thanks to PWK and this Forum of 20 years!

Carry on here as you wish...but this is a done deal.

You actually put your drivers license number on line?  Might as well go all out and put your SSN and credit card info out there too, LOL.

Actually pix of my DI and Passport as well at the request of the FBI on a Facebook page called David Amiga. Look it up. Wouldn't recommend using that info for anything as Leavenworth is VERY cold this time of year.

My identity was stolen last July and I have solved it myself with the help of the FBI and a bank (big one). Most complex and evil virus I've encountered in my 40 years of programming. Here's how it works. They start slow though have complete control of your computer and all your personal and financial info. They complete the takeover by mirroring ALL your payments with withdrawals in the same amount very gradually. In this way, I saw absolutely nothing wrong with my  accounts until Nov. 7. And then, I started getting a few dollars in overdrafts and an occasional NSF charge. Didn't think much of it until they went a bridge too far and I realized it. As I write this, billions are being stolen but that is about to stop as I have written, and Honey has tested, an algorithm that will catch anyone anywhere who tries this again.

  13. I should have put my number in here to start with. The line is my public number and is more secure than you know. It is
First call, first served. Working, well, all except a few hours every day and having a ball. Leave a message if I don't answer.

    Dave

  14. Lord, what stupid squishy thing code. But I don't change the past, present, or future as it probably wouldn't work out. Better ways to fix it. Damn, Dave...drunk and stoned again! Have a nice night...I'll stand guard  AS ALWAYS.
