I have one on my PC and I would love to hook it up to a projector for some widescreen tribes2. Peace, Josh ---------------- What's wrong with DVI? Well, this technology is not developed with you, the consumer, in mind. It's not hardware based on technological advances and progress. It's a draconian technology that benefits one segment of society - the entertainment industry. Hollywood proclaims it's about copy protection. That's a lie, it's about control. DVI/HDCP has the potential, should it be adopted as the standard, of making obsolete 3+ million current HDTVs in existence (downrezzing HD signals to 480p). I've heard that current cable lengths are restricted to 6 feet (a factor with front proj systems). You cannot record from DVI (Ooops ... so much for recording the Super Bowl). Well, there's much more to it than that, but I'm tired tonight. Earlier today, I wrote about DVI in another thread. Unless your PC has DVI/HDCP protocols built into its hardware, then sadly Tribes2 will just have to wait.

Secondly, I was leaning towards a Sony digital camera because I might be getting a projector for my home theater which has a Memory Stick slot, thus I'll be able to see the pictures directly through the projector. ---------------- The link below has exhaustively thorough descriptions of most digital cameras. http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm I once had a Olympus Camedia 3040, it was a great camera, but it suffered from chromatic abberations (purplish fringing). Do your research, most of us, to include myself, will be a bit biased to one brand or another. So you are looking at getting a Sony Front Projector? Let me guess ... Sony HS10. For it's price (approx sub $3000), performance wise they're hard to beat. Too bad they have DVI ports.
  3. Strictly on principle, there is no way I will support a draconian technology like DVI/HDCP. It's an anti-consumer technology and pro-MPAA. DVI is a one-way feed technology - meaning you cannot record from it. Firewire is two-way feed technology. Plus, it allows for networking of ones home theater (cutting down the wire jungle behind your components - DVI would only add more). At the present time DVI is winning the war on spin. One of the biggest spins out there is that DVI passes a larger amount of bandwidth. While it is true that DVI has a higher bandwidth, that is only part of the story. The other part of the story that DVI doesn't tell you is that all HDTV content, regardless of where it comes from, is compressed. HDTV in its compressed state can easily pass through Firewire hardware. The only difference between DVI and Firewire is where the decompression takes place. Here's another way of looking at it: DVI: 4(DVI) + 1(Output device) = 5(picture) IEEE: 1(IEEE) + 4(Output device) = 5(picture) DVI supporters will constantly point to the DVI value of 4 related to IEEEs value of 1, but at the same conviently failing to mention that in the end, both version still have a value of 5. however, goods news is on the horizon. Firewire had recently announced the Gigawire or something to that effect. Oh, one last thing ... Mitsubishi is strongly supporting IEEE technology. There are no products from Mits that support DVI. I applaud their stance. As far as which technology will win, it's anybody's guess at this point. Ultimately, buy what you feel comfortable with. It's going to take several years before things begin to settle down.
  4. m00n, they do look like pigs. All you need now is Billy Bob Thorton dressed up like the Wolf standing next to the "Three Little Pigs"

  7. I'm five months short of being assigned to Korea, but presently I live in Lafayette, LA which is considered, arguably, the heart of Acadiana. My residence is three miles from a reconstructed cajun village. Anyway, my point is, you guys are right about the origin of the cajun name, however I think it's more early English settlers interpretation of the spoken French Acadian that eventually led up to the modern word cajun. The French spoken d sounds like j to English ears ... Acajian. Anyway, I just prefer to call my friends swamp runners.
  8. What ever happened to the $8,000 you were saving for a pair of shiny black BMWs (Nautilus 802s)? I seem to recall several weeks ago you didn't want anything to do with the Reference series speakers. Quote: "I like to spend money on audio equipment. you might think RF-7's are enough, but not for me ." or "I don't want RF-7's because they're just not good enough over what I already have to make them worth spending 1,500 dollars on." Oh well, who needs BMWs anyway.

  11. ---------------- On 1/5/2003 12:54:25 PM prodj101 wrote: get the B&K. they kill the denon in all respects, especially build quality ... ---------------- Yet again, another crackhead comparison of audio equipment. John, the B&K 507 and Denon 5803 are both quality AV receivers. For the pricetag, they both should be. I love the simple but classy look of the B&K. For all practical purposes the 507 has all the bells and whistles that the 5803 has, just only 20 watts less. I own the Denon 4802, and couldn't be happier. However, I have issues with the 5803, besides the price, and that is with the proprietary link (DVD Audio) with the Denon DVD 9000. Specifically, Denon has failed to adequately address (IMO) future upgradability of the 5803 as SACD and DVD Audio digital connections become the norm. They did recently upgrade the 5803's ability to use the proprietary link with copy protected as well as non-copy protected DVD Audio. However, there are no plans to incorporate SACD and the current receiver is too restrictive in that only the DVD 9000 can use the receiver link. It's either Denon or nothing. While that's great for Denon, it sucks for the consumer should they decide on a different brand of DVD player for use. I guess only time will tell. Anyway, if you are going to spend that kind of money for a top of the line receiver then my recommendation would be to wait until the copyright battles have stablized and get a cheaper receiver in the interim. That's what I'm doing, but then again I'm heading to Korea for a year and so high quality sound is not as important on the DMZ as it is back in the good ole USA. If digital connections for DVD Audio and SACD are not important to you and you need something NOW - not later, then the B&K should fit your needs nicely (though I am a Denon man at heart). Good luck in your decision.

Low wages is a poor excuse for poor performance. A good leader would select quality folks from the start and then closely monitor their progress and behavior. Over time, good performers will be rewarded through an increase in wages. Poor performers are sent packing. As mOOn has said, no one made that person(s) apply for that job. He or she came of their of their own volition. As a result, the job applicants must agree to the terms specified by the establishment or look for employment elsewhere. However, should they do agree, then it's expected that they follow the terms that business has established. Bottom line. It's that simple. Punks don't set the rules for my business - I DO! ---------------- On 12/20/2002 8:14:10 PM TBrennan wrote: You get what you pay for; you pay cheap wages you get lousy help, that's it, that's the laws of economics at work. ---------------- Perhaps in the former Soviet Union.
  14. Mr. McDermott touched upon it earlier. The failure of the fast food chains rests solely on managements shoulders. Personally, If I was in charge I'd run one of those establishments with an iron hand. "Oh ... Mr. Punk Kid with attitiude is rude with customers?" "You're fired!!!" "Awww ... Little Johnny hasn't finished mopping the floor because he is outside talking to his girlfriend out in the parking lot. Hey Little Johnny, you're fired!!!" I would have no mercy with substandard performance in my establishment ... NONE! Customers MUST be a restaurants number one priority. Many fast food chains have forgotten about that. Away ... I digress. I could see a certain sax player being fired by me. Hee Hee

    My Dog!!

That is such a cool bed, however there is something fundementally wrong when a dog has better accomodations than its master. My mom would love something like that for her pooch, but at 19 years of age the dog could never get into the bed because of arthritis, or would fall out due to cataracs. Would it come in different heights and/or sizes? Out of GP, I couldn't see my 120lb battle dog (Loki) sleeping in such a rig. He would have a boot up his a$$ the next morning. Great bed nonetheless, you guys would make lots of money if you mass produced it.
