  1. Jim, Thanks for posting that. I was unaware that Kelly had that in one of his numerous, informative webpages. Ryan
  2. Khorn, Not quite sure there is a "site" so to say. There are a few on here that know how to calculate it though. HDBRBuilder would be able to help you. Just list the serial numbers and someone will come back with your answer. That's what I did. Found out they were 1975's the same day I asked. Good luck.
  3. Justin, So glad to see you back filling your position on the board. It's great to know you are feeling a bit better. As far as GPS and cell phones are concerned it is kind of a double-edged sword. In your case it was EXTREMELY beneficial to have but I also view it as an invasion of privacy. This is why I haven't ever, and will never even for business, own a cell phone. I don't like the idea of Big Brother tracking me and knowing my every move. Not that I have anything to hide from, I just don't believe they should have that much power.
  4. Well lookey here. Khorn found his way over to the forum. Welcome and congrats Khorn. I don't know if you remember but I emailed you a few days ago NICELY suggesting how you could turn your auction in to a winner. I also mentioned this forum to you, as I am sure others did, and it seems as if you found it. The strange thing to me is how you claim you cant turn your "buy it now" tag into the regular "buy it now" tag I see on so many other auctions. The one you have on your auction I almost NEVER see. All you have to do is go to eBay...type in Klipsch in the box up top...and then click on highest priced to have all the Klipsch auctions arranged in highest price descending to lowest price. Look at all the ones below your listing for the RF-7's for sale. Click on them and look at their "buy it now" tag. Why do none of theirs say "each" in their description?
  5. Has anyone else seen this? Only 1 hour left and still under $400 in price. May not be in the best of shape but thinking about bidding just for nostalgia's sake. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3005475366&category=14993
  6. Fellow vegetarian here Allan. I prefer Thai sauce on my Tofu but spicy mustard on Black Bean Burgers is also quite nice. Looks like I will keep up the never ending search for a C22 if that is what it takes to get tone controls.
  7. I have to throw in a vote as well for the Eico HF-81. I was turned on to its awareness by Mobile the first month I joined this forum. This was a few months prior to the Scott units picking up quite a bit of discussion around here. It has worked absolute miracles with my Khorns and, if the Scott's are anything like it, I will have to try one of them as well in the future.
  8. I am really happy to see someone else has been thinking about this and started the post. I was thinking this same thing to myself after demoing the AE-3 DJH and seeing multiple pictures of preamps without the controls. Where are the treble and bass knobs? To me this was one thing I really didn't like about the AE-3 after growing so accustomed to the HF-81. What if you don't want to listen to the music louder to get that punch? I want to feel bass even at levels which allow for conversation in the room. With my Eico the treble and bass both never go above the 3 and the ability to adjust is a clear advantage when working with poor recordings. I just can't understand how there can be one plane on which music sounds "ideal" or the "best." How can someone's ears determine that level for which the preamp will output at? That was particularly the question that came to mind when I was listening to the AE-3/Laurel setup. Sure it sounded excellent, especially in the highs and midrange, but the fuzzy bass I have come to thrive for just wasn't there. To get just a hint of the bass I was looking/expecting to hear I had to crank it to untolerable levels. Granted the preamp did have some crappy Chinese stock 6SN7's in it at the time but could better tubes really provide that much more bass? Oh Lord, please tell me you haven't spoiled me with this darn Eico.
  9. Make sure to take some help with you...they aren't small.
  10. Kelly, I couldn't agree with you more. It really isn't a "fair" assessment because of my lack of experience. I just had to give the nod to the 6L6 tube because it impressed me greatly. Still though I would have to say the PP is probably my cup of tea more so than a good SET amp, especially for my listening tastes and desire for warm, fuzzy, thumping bass. Who knows...maybe I'll discover a SET option in the future that will bring satisfaction. Ryan
  11. Kelly, I am sure I am not alone here when I say this but you have the most wonderful way of placing graphics into replies, almost as if they morph right in to your words. Not only that, but the pictures are of excellent quality with perfect pixilization every time. I find myself overwhelmingly impressed quite often. So, in other words, THANK YOU and keep up the great work. Ryan
  12. Dean, That is GREAT news. I am really glad to here that he has returned home safely. I think the Stairway to Heaven idea with the scar is about as humorous as you can be right now. Right on! I too would have to place my vote with the plastic surgery though. Take care.
  13. I have to agree with Allan on this one. When I purchased my Khorns about a year ago the original owner had them hooked up to a McIntosh MC240 using 6L6 tubes. His entire setup was McIntosh including the preamp, which I think was a C22, and his CD player as well. After inserting my demo cd and pressing play on the player I was greeted with the most glorious soundstage ever to fall on my ears. Since then I have mainly used my Eico HF-81 with the Khorns; however, I recently had a friend stop by from Austin with his Laurel IIX 300B's and an AE-3 DJH preamp. Upon hooking up the Laurels and the AE-3 I was expecting to hear the sound of the Gods based on many of the reviews I have soaked in here. For some reason, probably the tubes, I just wasn't overwhelmingly impressed. The midrange did sound excellent but the setup lacked the bass I crave for and have become accustomed to since tapping my vein with the HF-81. So for my $.02, which probably isn't worth much due to my lack of knowledge in the realm of audiophileness, I lean more towards the sound of PP than SET. Then again this is all coming from a single audition of both. Now I find myself in the ever elusive search for an MC240 at an affordable price. Wait...that might be an oxymoron.
  14. 1. Klipschorns...again. 2. Vintage Heritage aren't too hard to find. Some are my prized than others. New ones take forever, from what I have heard. 3. I would venture to guess at least a 6 month wait.
  15. mike and tb, Thanks for the response. I think I will leave them this way for a little while and see how everything turns out. I look forward to hearing your input on the matter when you have the chance tb. Ryan
  16. 3 days to go and the reserve was just met at $3,000. Wonder where these will end up at.
  17. yang, I'll be winning the speakers so don't stress yourself with the thought of shipping to China.
  18. Is this the same Brook unit Paul used to voice the Klipschorns? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=3001285559
  19. Kain, www.dpreview.com is one of the best places IMO to read about digital cameras. After much research and deliberation there, I ended up with a Fuji S602 Zoom that I am completely happy with. I almost talked myself into a digital SLR like the Canon D30, D60, or 1D but then ended up with the Fuji for less than half the price and it takes GREAT shots. You should be able to find one on the web now for around $500.
  20. Khorn Kerry, I can't read very well apparently. You do have four Walnut Khorns. I respond too quickly at times. Ryan
  21. Sorry for such a newb question but what do you'll have your speakers hooked up to on the HF-81? 4 ohms or 8 ohms? When I first received the unit about a year ago I was always using the 8 ohm tap because the Klipschorn's nominal impedence is 8 ohms. Last night I reconnected it for the first time in about two months to the 4 ohm output. Seems to me like the sound may be a bit cleaner and the transformers don't run as hot which I thought was strange because I expected they would run hotter. Anyone have any negative experiences connecting at 4 ohms that they would like to share? Am I running any risk to the amp or speakers by doing this? rcr
  22. Dean, I hope the best for your son in that he has a very swift recovery. I know what you must be going through right now and I am sure my father does. I had an accident similar to your son's 9/23/01 and I too was told that had I been wearing my seat belt I would have died. The tree that slammed in to the passenger side of the truck shot me across the vehicle and I ended up using the driver as a cushion. They still had to cut me out of the car and I ended up with mulitple fractures in both the humerous and ulna of my right arm. If your son has a catheter in him right now I REALLY know how he has to be feeling...not pleasant. I am really happy for you and your family that the injuries were kept to a minimum. If he ends up having to do any physical therapy at all make sure he knows to give it all he has. Slacking on that can really cause problems down the line. Take care of yourself. Ryan
