  1. Mike, Did you receive it yet? I am planning to order one and would like to know how long it will take to receive it. Kudret
  2. Scott, Do you have access to any CNC router/mill for carving out a TD124 plinth out of some exotic solid wood? Kudret
  3. Hi Jon, What a bummer! Sorry, my expertise ends here. You might want to post on AVSforum to see if you can get any help. Several years ago there were many posts and detailed instructions about opening them up and modding them. Kudret
  4. Erland, I am no expert in this, but how about tilting the tail of the tweeter slightly up so that it fires at a slightly lower sitting postion? BTW, even on the stock Khorns sound changes depending on the sitting height. Kudret
  5. Rick, Was that unit modified by someone? Kudret
  6. I found out that one of the K77s on my Khorns was 3dB lower than the other, although they both mesure 6.6 ohms. I replaced the lK77 with lower dB with another one and I believe this helped the imaging of my Khorns. K55Vs (spring terminals) measured 10.6 and 10.5 ohms. I also had another pair of K55Vs and when I swapped this pair I believe they sounded better (cleaner). I am on a quest to solve the imaging issues I am having with my Khorns and I would like to make sure K55V and K77 drivers function perfectly. Is changing the diaphragms the solution? Where can I get replacement diphragms for these drivers and can I do it myself? Best regards, Kudret
  7. When you get the power cable, put the bulb in and fire it up. If it fires up you can reset the bulb timer in the menu. If you don't have the remote, you can get into the menu by using the buttons on top of the unit. Kudret
  8. Hi Jon, Where did you get it? do you have the manual? I have an LT150 that I've been using for several years. I presume LT158 is similar. Turn it over, romeve the screw to the lamp compartment and pull out the lamp. See if it looks ok. When the lamp is removed, if there is still something loose inside, you might want to remove several screws holding the top cover to see if you can find the loose piece inside. Several years ago there were various posts on AVS forum about how to open and mod those units. Good luck, Kudrret
  9. Hi Tom, Sorry about the confusion and thank you for your efforts to help me solve this problem. Probably we should have a glossary for soundstage, imaging, and similar terms on the forum to establish a common understanding. I am aware of some recordings where the main vocal is off centered (female vocal on The Girl From Ipanema on Getz/Gilberto CD or Kinderspiele by Ester Ofarims, at least that's how they sound on my system - LOL). In my tests, I am using very recent recordings where the vocals are centered. To me the sweet spot is where I can hear the main vocal clearly and in the center. I start where the two imaginary lines from toed-in speakers intersect and move slightly back and forth until I can hear a clear (focused) sound. Then, at the same spot I expect (and would be more than happy) to get a 2-D soundstage, i.e., instruments aligned on the imaginary straight line from the left speaker to the right. I am not cocerned about the "depth" at this point. What I mean is individual instruments seems large and the singer seems to have 3' wide lips. When the speakers are in the corners, I cannot find a spot where the vocal is focused. Kudret
  10. I listened to the speakers separately with a mono LP. I have to say that this was a very useful test. Both speakers sounded fine in mono but the right speaker had sounded slightly different than the left one. I compared individual drivers separately in the same manner and found out that tweeters sounded slightly different. Then I played some test tones and measured the spl and found out that right tweeter was about 3 dB lower. I have a pair of spare K77 and used one of them to preplace the right tweeter. I also swapped the crossovers as well as the K55 drivers just to make sure that they sound the same. Now both speakers sound similar. Then I hooked up both of them and played the same mono LP. Vocals and instruments are all in the center but everything sounded too big. No matter what I did I could not find the sweet spot that would reduce the size of the vocals and the instruments. Despite loosing deep bass I gave up on corner placement idea for the moment. Then I moved the speaker out of the corners and 12' away from each other while sitting 9' from the front wall. Speakers are toed-in towards the sitting position. I payed the same mono LP and now everything sounded cleaner (compared to corner placement). Soundstage also improved. I increased the attenuation of mid drivers from -3.9dB to -6.0dB and this helped further reducing the size of the instruments and vocals. Now, with stereo music I am getting a more detailed soundstage. It is still not perfect though as the soundstage is not very detailed. I also had a test LP which has a drum test for checking the location of the drums. All I can hear is some drums on the left or right, and I am not able to further localize them. I think the test CD should help a lot identifying the remaining problems, but at least I can listen to some music now while I wait for the test CD (Erland: kkibrisli@hotmail.com). Thanks for everyones help. I will keep you posted as I am not done yet. Kudret
  11. Tom and D_MAN, Yes, I just reversed the phase between the squawkers between the left & right cabinets and did the test again and I am hearing exactly the same thing in both tests - 1.5 seconds of sound in the center and 0.5 seconds of sound which is difficult to localize. I played several songs that I am familiar with both, squawker in and out of phase. In both cases it is difficult to find the sweet spot. The vocal seems to be coming from a wide area. In fact this has been one of my major problems as I've been moving around looking for the sweet spot which seems to be shifting from one song to the other. D-MAN, Speakers and the drivers are all stock. I have some mono LPs and I will try what you suggested and report back. Thank you both. Kudret
  12. Thank you all for your suggestions. I intend to get to the bottom of this or sell my Khorns soon. I made a lot of investment into my audio setup and I want to start enjoying listening to some music. Peter, Initially they were in 17' corners. I prefer to sit at least 9' away from the front wall. Then I moved them out of the corners 12' apart and toed them in to the sitting position which is about 11' away from the front wall. This reduced the bass substantially but at least removed the "sitting on the stage" effect. I have my HT set up at the other end in the same room and placing them along the long wall does not look feasible. Larry, I wish the search function was operational. Actually that was the first thing I tried before posting. I believe woofers are ok, as I can hear as well as feel he bass when they are in the corners. The problem with testing the tweeter and squawkers is that they pass the test even when they are completely out of phase on one speaker. DrWho, I will wait for the CD from Erland. Maybe the tests on that CD will be more conclusive. Erland, Thank you so much. I will take you up on your offer. Michael, Woofers are ok. I also used some test tones to check the level of both speakers and I am reading off the same dB for the same test tone from both speakers. I believe crossovers are ok. I was wondering if there was a D cell type test for squawker but I guess the answer is no. On the other hand, what could be the other causes for poor sounstage? Should I start looking into room treatment? I do not know where to start though. Kudret
  13. Thanks, Al. I tried the reverse phasing between the same drivers in opposite speakers (both squawkers and both tweeters). They sound the same as before. Anyway, at least I know that poor soundstage is not caused by some drivers being connected in reverse. Kudret
  14. I have ben complaining about the sounstage I am getting from my Khorns especially when they are in the corners. Following some suggestions from this thread (http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/764355.aspx) I used an AVIA DVD to see if my Khorns were out of phase and it "appears" that they are not. However, if only the tweeters were out of phase, can this be determined by a test tone or is there another way to individually check the phase of individual drivers? The reason I am asking is, when I reversed the connections on one of the tweeters, the speakers still passed the test. Then I reversed the connections on the tweeter and mid driver on one speaker and repeated the test. I was expecting the speakers to be out of phase, but I was surprised to see that they still passed the test. I also played a few songs and I cannot hear any difference between before and after reversing the drivers on one speaker. What gives? Kudret
  15. Thank you, Michael. OK, I just moved them back and tightly tucked them in the corners. What I am hearing is a singer with a BIG head and I am not able to localize any instruments (regardless of where I sit). When I toe-out (is there such a term??) the speakers while keeping them in the corners, singer's head starts to shrink to normal proportions. Kudret
  16. Thank you, Rudy for all the suggestions. I have the AVIA DVD for HT setup. I'll see if it has anything for checking out of phase drivers. In any case, but I will triple check and reverse the driver connections tomorrow. That's a very impressive HT room. Kudret
  17. Hi Tom, Thank you for your detailed response. I thought about the center speaker idea, however I have to admit I wasn't too keen on using a center speaker, and the same goes for building false corners. [:$] Does this apply to the whole cabiner or the bass bin for the most part. How about moving the bass bins in the 17' corners, but keeping the top sections separate 12' apart (on stands) toed in. Would this create any major time alignment or other issues. I will check the driver connections, but I suspect it might be the room. I was planning to get TrueRTA and a Behringer mic to see how my room response is. Should I do this sooner than later? Kudret
  18. Hi, My room is 17x34 and I have my Khorns along the short wall. I had them tucked into the corners for a few months. The biggest isue with this setup for me was the feeling of sitting on the stage as I would hear some instruments from far right and others from far left. I also unbolted the top sections and experimented with different toe-in configurations, but of course this did not solve the "sitting on the stage" problem. Then I moved the speakers out of the corners, about 12' away from each other and toed-in towards the sweet spot. I have not built any false corners yet and at the moment I am again experimenting with different toe-in configurations. My biggest problem with this setup is the lack of a realistic sounstage. There is no separation between the location of instruments and vocals. What I prefer to have is just the opposite; laid back sound with a soundsatge extending from one speker to the other. I have tried two different preamps, two different amps with two different source components, but so far I cannot say that I am happy with my Khorns. I also have a pair of Cornwalls and I am planning to upgrade their crossovers to see if they will give me the sound I am looking for. Mind you, Cornwalls would be more difficult to drive with 3.5WPC-7WPC SET and PP amps I am using. Kudret
  19. A smaller version of the poster in the background would be nice too. Kudret
  20. Gilbert, Sorry for your troubles with the SME cable. How about I buy you the RCA conversion kit that Allan suggested? Kudret
  21. Gilbert, Was there a connection problem with the SME cable? Kudret
  22. The whole setup with the original plinth looks very nice. I've been looking for one myself. I am sorry to hear that. I spent over $60 in materials alone for that plinth. Kudret
  23. Hi Gilbert, How is the TD124? How do you like it? Is this for TD124? If yes, are you sure about 15.5"? It might be too tight! Don't forget to leave some allowance for the aluminum level adjustment wheels. EDIT: I think there is a mistake in your plinth measurements. 14.5" does not seem right! May be 16.5? Thebes, if you know a way to bend the plexiglass to make round corners please let me know as well. I also want to build a dustcover later on when I get a plinth. Kudret
  24. Thanks for the heads up, Charles. I want to get a pair for my Khorns. I haven't been watching the prices. How much should I expect to pay? Kudret
  25. Thanks, Wolfram. I did a google search and found various references to laquer wire. I have no idea as to where to find it though. Kudret
