Josh, Enjoy your tonearm. From what've read it seems like an excellent choice. I am anxiously expecting delivery of my SME 3012. Wolfram, what kind if wire did you use in your 3012R? Kudret

Frappr map for Klipsch Forum members
Kudret replied to Thumpelstiltskin's topic in General Klipsch Info
Peter, I had invited Rob about a year ago. I also visited Jeff in Quebec city. Those are the only two members I met from the Klipschforum. Arthur, where are you in Montreal? I am in Pointe-Claire. Kudret -
Tom, Have a look at my signature.[] I find syrah to be very very detailed, and it also has very tight and clean bass. Even my Welbornelabs DRD 2A3 amps that sounded dull with Cary SLP70 sound very live and snappy with Syrah. Someone had recommended to me to dampen the chassis, but I haven't done anything about it. I read that blackglass Tung-Sol VT231 tubes are the ultimate tubes for Syrah. If you have any suggestions for syrah please let me know. Sorry to hijack your thred.[:$] Kudret

Hi Tom, Is that a Supratek Syrah? How do you like it? Kudret

I was supposed to buy that pair of Khorns in the first picture in the link above. I really liked the red color of those KWOs. Unfortunatley, Greg had some difficulty with color matching and he found me another pair which were KWL and much lighter in color. If I stripped down the varnish, would it be possible to stain them to make them a little more reddish? Kudret

Yeah Gilbert, how does it sound? Allan, I don't mean to hijack this thread but do you have any opinion about Ortofon RMG-309? I really like the Ortofon SMG-212. It's so easy to adjust the tracking weight with SPU. Instead of SME 3012 I was thinking of looking for a RMG-309 - they seem to go for a fortune though. Kudret

Hi Gilbert, I am glad you are finally setting up the TD124. Just to clarify a couple of points; the armboard came with the TD124 and SME 3009 mounted on it. So, I belive it is the original. However, I used the following SME 3009 protactor. SME protractor has only one point to be matched and I had to slide the tonearm all the way back to align the cartridge . As for the balancing weight, again this is the balancing wight that was included when I got the tt. Considering the fact that SME 3009 came with the lighter SME hedshell, the balacing weight seems to be right for this headshell which is lighter than mica SPU headshell. Having said that, I mounted an SME G/T on this tonearm for a brief period and I had to pull the balancing weight all the way back to balanace it. Allan had suggested that I buy the heavier balancing weight but I never had the chance to order one. Kudret

Excellent deal for mint La Scalas in Toronto - $600 HURRY.
Kudret replied to Kudret's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
All I know about them is what's written in the ad. They are (were) $600 Canadian, which is about $540 USD. I do not know how much are the taxes going into the US, but I know that we pay 15% (of declared value) for items coming into Canada. According to the ad page the seller has already received 8 emails. If it was me, I would have offered to buy them right away based on the description, and go pick them up. If they are not as described, you can always walk away. I suspect they are already gone by now... Kudret -
RAPTORMAN, I have an Ortofon SPU G/T that I like very much, and I was thinking of getting an Ortofon SL15 to try it with my preamp which can also handle MC cartridges. How do you like your Ortofon SL15E MK II? (I believe this is similar to SPU G/T, but without the step-up transformer, right??) Kudret
-
DrBill, Actually when I bought the turntable, the seller was very apologetic about the tonearm. He predicted that I wasn't probably going to use it. It was laying around in my basement for a while and I am glad I didn't toss it. Kudret
-
LOL. Probably Ortofon would gladly take it back and FULLY refund my money. Max, disregard that. If I get a Kontrapunkt C, I would have to revise my respone in What piece of your system did you spend the most on? thread. I think Denon 103 would be a good start for now. But again, two years ago I wouldn't imagine spending that kind of money on most of the equipment in my signature. Kudret

What piece of your system did you spend the most on?
Kudret replied to jacksonbart's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Khorns, preamp and 2A3 monos - all about the same, CDP slightly less. Kudret -
Thank you Max and Scott. Max: Denon 103 is the first on my shopping list. My preamp can handle LOMC cartridges now. I will look into Kontrapunct as well. Scott: I finally located some Ortofon documentation on VinylEngine and it is a SMG-212. You are right, there is no bias adjustment at all. That was one of the reasons I asked if this was a good tonearm? Look at the price! The last on eBay went for close to $400. Kudret

I know that it is an Ortofon tonearm, but that's all I know. I did a google search and came across a similar arm that was SMG-212. That one had a triangular base, whereas mine has a circular base. Is this a good tonearm? How does it compare to SME 3009? Thanks for any help. Kudret

Colin, Do you have a price in mind? Kudret

Thanks Tom. YGM. Kudret BTW. Would you happen to have any Ken-Rad or Tung-Sol round-plate 6sn7 Vt231s?

Tom, I am interested in the VPI HW 16.5 record cleaning machine. Kudret

Cheap Cornwalls in Tulsa, OK.... Yo Gilbert
Kudret replied to sheltie dave's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Frzninvt, Your '78 WO Belle's are very very tempting, but I would have to sell my '84 WO Cornwalls first, and meet you up at the border to pick them up. Any takers for a mint pair of '84 WO Cornwalls in Montreal?? Kudret -

I agree... Considering the fact that they don't show up too often in Canada this is a good deal. Kudret -

Gary, I had mine in 17' corners and I never liked the imaging I was getting. Now they are 14' apart and not in the corners anymore. They are toed in so that the sweet spot is 10' away and I like them this way better. Of course, bass does not go as low anymore. I've been thinking about building false corners, but I am not too thrilled about the looks of false corners. Kudret
