  1. Thanks. It's something different.
  2. Okay, so it's the first day with temps in the 60's, so I figured I would do some texture painting outside today. First coat:
  3. I contacted this guy. We were all set, but he backed out last minute after we agreed on the price with shipping.....he said he didn't want to ship it after all.
  4. Several: Living Room: 3.2 system with TV (Not an ideal room for more surround speakers) 2 Cherry Klipsch RF-7 II's, Klipsch Cherry RP 440c center and 2 Dayton Audio DIY 15" sealed subs. Subs are powered by Crown k1 and the rest by a Pioneer Elite VSX something or other. This runs 99% of the time in stereo mode. Dining Room: Dynaudio Audience 122 powered by an Emotiva XPA series amp, an Emotiva USP 1 Pre amp, dell laptop and Audio Technica record player for source material. Basement Home theater: (Patchwork as my real home theater went away with the addition of children!) RF-82II fronts, Cherry RC-7 Center, 4 RF-62's for surround, 2 18" B&C DIY subs that were part of my DJ set up...before I had kids (Way overkill!) Outlaw audio 976 processor, Rotel RMB 1095 and 1075 power amps, Oppo DVD player and dell computer running Linux for source and an overrated Monster 5100mkII power center. Garage: Early 1990's Kenwood integrated amp that refuses to die, some random $5 sony disc changer I acquired paired with an 8' polk powerd sub and Polk Monitor 8t's. Home studio: Behringer truth monitors. Master bedroom: Tiny amp connected to laptop running through Polk Audio monitor 7's. Sitting in a closet so the kids don't destroy them waiting for sale or to rebuild my home theater when the kids are past the captain destructo stage!: Klipsch Cherry RF-83's, Cherry RC-64II and RS-62 II Also in the house but not connected: Klipsch wf-35's, RF-3's with a 4 brand new woofers, Polk Audio Monitor 11's and monitor 5's, RC-62II and the creme de la creme.... panasonic boom box speakers that I garbage picked to use in the garage as test speakers.
  5. Hello, I always say yes to subs if done correctly. (unless it's a vinyl only system) I have RF-83's and RF-7 II's, and even though they are very capable full range speakers rated to 29hz and 30hz respectively, I always runs subs with them for several reasons. 1) When listening at reference levels, there's not an issue, but when listening quietly, our ears perceive a loss of bass volume. This is augmented by the addition of a sub to fill in the bottom end. Most of my listening now that I'm well into my 40's is at lower volume levels. 2) On the rare occasion I feel like reliving a college party or a night at a dance club, the subs remove the low end abuse that the regular speakers would normally have to shoulder. 3) I'm also a fan of multiple smaller subs rather than one large sub. This, when done right, increases the sweet spot. For example, when I ran one sub on the front wall, the bass was nicely increased at the small listening area, but obnoxiously loud when you neared a wall. With the addition of another sub on the side wall, it evened it out a bit, but I still have areas of peaks and voids. Eventually, when I retire and build a home, I will design a home theater/listening room around the swarm concept.... 4 subwoofers dispersed around the room. (This is not really a viable option for most people trying to fit it in their regular homes.) 4) Finally, refrain from going off the deep end. What I mean by this is don't be the guy that has stacks of 18" subwoofers everywhere! Not needed unless your listening area is the size of a football stadium! I just roll my eyes every time I see a picture of some dude with multiple huge subs in a room no bigger than a bedroom! At that point it's just a pissing contest. And I agree 100% with Wuzzzer... There's not a klipsch sub I've owned that didn't have amplifier issues. Klipsch makes decent speakers, but their subs are absolutely horrible because of their amplifiers they chose to use. (With one exception... my brothers RWS-15 is still going strong after 2 decades of almost daily use!)
  6. I found a very good condition pair and purchased locally in Illinois for $100. (For another $100 I purchased a pioneer mid-grade receiver and a Klipsch rpw10. he has as well, and of course, the sub amp doesn't work as usual.)
  7. Hello all. I went to buy a pair of RF-62's for $100 that were in decent condition for their age from a guy who was transitioning to a sound bar. While there, I ended up getting his pioneer vsx-1017txv and the Klipsch RPW10 for another $100. Well, I know Klipsch's track record when it comes to subwoofer amps, so I assumed the amp was toast or soon would be, and sure enough, when I got home to try it out, nothing. I looked and the fuse was blown. So, I replaced and poof! Fuse is blown again. I removed the amp and didn't notice anything obviously fried. So, if anyone wants this amp for repair, I'm asking $25 plus the cost of shipping.
  8. I was hoping someone had a pair of rf-82's that had a couple dented woofers and wanted to replace all of them. In doing so, they could recoup some of the cost and sell me one of the decent used ones. Well, no such luck yet.
  9. Well, I figure I should post pics of the crossover as well in case anyone wanted to see what that's all about. Seems decent enough, I just don't know why two full length speaker wire runs to the woofers where used when it's the same signal. I'm surprised the bean counters let this happen! Wouldn't it be more economical to run a set to the bottom woofer, then daisy chain to the top woofer? Basically saving about 2 feet of cable per speaker?
  10. Hello, I have the outlaw audio 976. It is a 7.2 processor that sounds great, was under $1000 new. It's great because it doesn't have all of the old legacy connections on the back clogging everything up. The only issue.... and it's a big one, is that the remote is a piece of trash. The programming on it is incorrect, it's a widely known issue, but Outlaw did nothing to address it. So, the fix, is to use a universal remote that operates all of your other equipment. I have 2 units. I purchased one for my 2.2 system music only system as the DACs are incredible and another one for my home theater. I will keep the one for my 2.2 music system, as I really don't use the remote for that. However I am thinking about selling the other one I use for my home theater and returning to my Integra 9.8 processor(even though it's not 4K, but let's be honest, how much content is really out there in 4K for the average user?) Highlights: Between the pure analog 7.1 ch inputs, support for 4K and HDR, the Model 976 allows us to deliver a new, advanced product to those who want the benefits of the latest in HDMI (2017), but who are unable or unwilling to install an 11-channel speaker system •Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Digital decoding; DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio and DTS decoding •Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS NEO:6 processing Here is the link: https://outlawaudio.com/products/976.html
  11. The damage to the driver. I am looking for a replacement that will match, not the newer ones, as the color is different. (I know this as I replaced all 4 woofers in my RF-3's last year) If you have one that you're willing to part with, let me know. Thanks.
  12. There are 3 cross-braces along with a runner that goes from top to bottom on the center of either sides of the cabinet.
  13. Round over on the sides minus the front, as this would mess up the alignment on the bottom when the front plastic pieces are installed.
  14. Hello, Documenting my random RF-82 project. Purchased these from a guy who sells storage unit stuff. After getting these for about 30% of what he was asking, I decided to have some fun with them and document the downward spiral into the madness! They were pretty beat. Vinyl scratched, corners dinged and one driver with a creased/damaged cone along with the grill. However, all of the drivers functioned correctly. So, I thought I would have some fun and do a textured finish to use up some paint I have laying around taking up space. I am going to send updates as things happen. Hopefully someone will find this entertaining or useful in some aspect. I'm not going to do any internal bracing, because these are pretty decent already, and any additional bracing would not end up in any audible difference, other than changing the box volume a bit. Enjoy! Original condition...
  15. Thanks for all of the feedback (and random comments, that's the real entertainment value here!) I am running the latest version of Firefox, Windows 10 Pro (ugh!) and my laptop doesn't have any hardware/software issues. So maybe it's just the Universe telling me I should freely hand over more user data to big tech companies! On the flipside to that, I just put together my first computer running Linux. There is a little bit of a learning curve so far, but all in all I like it. The only downside so far is that you can't stream content from Amazon at 1080... so, with Amazon's recent 15% increase in Prime, I will be dropping that. So, I guess I will be counting on Pirate Bay so I can watch the new Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power that's supposed to be here in September.
  16. Is anyone else having issues posting, etc. using Firefox? I never had any issues until they "updated" the forum a while back. For example, I can't post pictures or update the title of a post using Firefox.
  17. Thanks. I saw that, however, they are back ordered ( like everything these days!) https://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/klipsch-1000264-rf-82-si-woofer-k-1204nb/
  18. Hello all, I'm looking for a single used original RF-82 woofer. I couldn't pass up a pair with a damaged woofer and cabinets that were well scuffed! I have some textured paint I want to use up, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I know I can get the new drivers from multiple places online, (As I replaced all 4 in my RF-3's last year) but they are the newer copper color and I'm looking to match the other drivers. Let me know if anyone wants to reduce their speaker parts stash!!! I'm in the Chicago burbs and would prefer a local sale, but I am not opposed to having one shipped. Thanks!
  19. Great discussions! To return to the OP original questions (and to add a little humor) "Are Audio Manufacturers Liable for False Claims, Bloated Spec's?" Well, apparently not otherwise "quality" companies like these would be in trouble... I have always been from the school of thought where I let my ears judge weather I like something and then I let my wallet decide if I can afford that something! However, I don't like it when companies are misleading in order to get a sale. If I feel cheated, I just simply won't support that company again. I vote with my $$$. It usually boils down to the marketing department trying to tell us why their widget is better than someone else's widget. I would love an honest spec sheet so I can start my searches there and ultimately let my ears do the deciding before a final purchase. For example, if I'm looking for a random 8 channel amp that's at least and honest 100 watts RMS at less than .1%thd from 20h-20khz, then I'm probably going to stay away from brands like this claiming 1000 watts per channel max and then in the next line state that it's 100 watts per channel RMS. Sure , it may have made 1000watts for a nano-second right before it started the lab on fire sending employees scrambling for fire extinguishers! I hope this at least provided you with a little comic relief!
  20. Ahh, the government sticking their hands were they don't belong...again and again! If I buy a speaker new, I will pay taxes on it. Now, if I go and sell that same speaker many years later, why should I have to pay taxes on it again? It's not income! That's just called theft and the government is the thief! So, all of my selling transactions over $600 will obviously be cash only from here on out. I stopped buying things on eBay for that same reason, they started charging tax on used items in Illinois. Next headline, "Government to eliminate cash...electronic transfers only!"
