  1. Yes , it seems that on the AL-3 crossover, the pd-5vh has no high cutoff, i mean no inductance and capacitance to stop the driver in the high frequencies, it stops at its natural cutoff
  2. here what i tried ... but i have kept the 136 µF of the woofer ..
  3. I can try to cut my tweeter at 4,5 kHz with a 24 dB slope
  4. Yes i tried an active crossover but the result was not good. I tried with beringer src 2496 ans dcx 2496, there was too much noise something like sssshhjhh .. un french that noise is "souffle" and "ronflette". Then i tried a Dayton audio dsp-408. Same problem. It is noisy. I tried then with my old Pioneer sf-700. It was better but too less possibilities of cross frequencies and slopes. And now ? I tried another passive filter. It is better but even some frequencies missing
  5. Thank you mboxler .. i have Eminence Kappa 15C woofer, Atlas sound PD-5VH squawker, b&c de 10 tweeters and klipsch AL-3 crossover ... and it doesn't sound good .. I do not know why. It seems that there is a hole between woofer and squawker. perhaps the new pd-5vh doesn't play at 450 Hz with the original (genuine) klipsch al-3 crossover. I have put the Kappa 15C in peavey fh-1 cabinet .. these cabinets are very close to la scala ones, a little bit bigger but not too much. It must or should sounds like the La Scala ..
  6. mustang_flht, yes do that and the you sell me your old couple MC2125 and C504 at a good friend price i am also old .. so an old Mc Intosh is not a problem for me 😀
  7. hello do someone know the frequence from bass to mid on the AL-3 crossover ? 4 mH inductance and 136 µF capacitance - 12dB/oct cross .... i know the k33-e (like the Eminence Kappa 15C) isa 4 ohms woofer. I do not understand what crossover it is ... not butterworth, not linkwitz riley, not bessel, so what ? Thank you for all explanations
  8. i received two days ago a private message from someone who told me he has a friend who is selling 2 k-401 horns .. i just have to send him a mail. the PM was from Austin36 also but i can't find it in my message inbox (like hum4god). i did that but during the email exchanges i have noticed that it could not be possible that he send me a pair of k-401 for 35$ shipping cost to my very very far island (150$ for 2 k-401 horns in very good condition). the man said his name is sonnhalter.
  9. i should search a k-55m driver, perhaps it goes higher than the Atlas sound
  10. i am thinking that perhaps is the Atlas sound PD-5VH not the good driver for the La Scala with the AL-3 crossover. On the crossover diagram, i see that the squawker has no highpass filter, so it plays until his own response curve, something like 3 kHz .. The tweeter begin to work over 4500 Hz i think ... so it give a hole from a little more than 3 kHz to 4,5 kHz .. isn't it ?
  11. yes you are right, yesterday i measured it .. the polyswitch is ok, i have less than 0,5 Ohms for the 100 Ohms in // with the polyswitch
  12. Thank you very very much mboxler, i will measure the resistance across the 100 ohm resistor next week-end. the 100 ohms resistor and the rde050 in parallel is on the tweeter and not on the squawker. i will try to find a polyswitch (what value has rde 050?) if it is broken. I have bought my al-3 crossover second hand.
  13. thank you mboxler i am lost with all klipsch drivers used for la Scala or other klipshorn .. The k-55m is an EV driver, isnt' it ? 16 ohms or 8 ohms ? The k-55v is an Atlas sound or not ? or perhaps the k-55x ? On the high pass filter, there is a rde 050 .. what is it ? a variable resistor ? I have seen that the rde 050 is in parallel with an 100 ohms resistor, is it to safe the tweeter ? What is the value of the rde 050 ? Perhaps on my klipch al-3 crossover are the rde 050 out of order and it's because this that my tweeters are weak .. don't you think so ?
  14. Hello could someone tell me what is the impedance of the speakers used with the AL-3 crossover. i recently build a pair of clones of la Scala with Peavey FH-1 cabinet, Eminence kappa 15C, Atlas sound pd-5vh and B&C de10-8 drivers. It doesn't sound good. It seams that the crossover is not good between the squawker and the tweeter. Something is missing in this range. The Eminence woofer is 4 Ohms, atlas sound pd-5vh is 16 Ohms and DE10-8 in 8 Ohms. The crossover is the klipsch original AL-3. Do you think this crossover can work with these drivers ? Should i replace the diaphragm of the B&C DE10 with 16 ohms ones ? Best regards
  15. Yes i could switch the 2 upper box (squawker and tweeter) but i just made a rapid test with an activ crossover ( Daytona DSP-408 ) and 3 power amps. For my test, i have put 18 dB/oct slope for each cross ( 459 Hz and 4000 Hz ) . It sound much better and we can hear the tweeter now. i think the AL-3 is not good for the speakers ( particularely the squawker and the tweeter) i have choosed for my clone scala. Or the AL-3 has a too big attenuation for the tweeter
  16. Hello here are my Scala clones Inside there is : Eminence Kappa 15C (4 ohms) woofer Atlas sound PD-5VH squawker ( 16 ohms) B&C DE10 tweeter (8 ohms) Klipsch AL-3 original crossover The horn is a clone of K-401 made with wood At listening, it seems that the high frequencies are a little weak Where do you think can be the problem ?
  17. Could someone tell me the price of the k-401 horns in USA ?
  18. Hello I am looking for a pair of K-401 horns. I have already been offered but from the USA and the shipping and tax costs are too high for it to be profitable. Also, I am looking for a seller who would have these horns and who would sell them from a country of the European Union or better from France. Thank you for making me your best offers by private message. Best regards
