  1. I am an owner of both the RF-3II and RF-7. I had the 3 series set and later on got 3 RF-7s. The sound difference is very big. I also noticed my RSW-15 blended in better. So, instead of selling or giveing my RF-3IIs away, I just use them as back speakers and use a speaker selector so I can choose either RS-3II or RF-3II as surrounds. This may give you an idea on what you want to do. Hope this helps. CD
  2. As you can see in my signature I have an RSW-15. I was playing around, and thought I have a great sub, so I kept turning it up. And belive it or not, I maxed out my RSW-15 and wanted more. I dunno, am I getting sick like TheEar(s)? I want something that can do 20 hz at 110 dB clean and maybe even more then that. I am thinking of a DIY project. 2 subs each identcal. I would use 2 stryke AV15 in each box and use one as a Active, other as PR. And I found an amp at Parts express I might want to use. I think its a Crown CE 1000A3 and power each at 4 ohmes doing 450 watts each as the max is 500, it might give it some xmax left over for hard 20hz levels. I realize the total cost of all this maybe close to $1500 US, but I have the tools to build the box and a Lowes about 15 mins away. Do you think if built right, all 3 Subs could do 20 Hz hard. Or do you think I should use all 4 15s in a B4-Plus arrangment and use four 4 by 12 inch ports that are flared on each side. Heck, just to make sure, why not do 6 ports? Well, anyway, anythoughts? Thank you in advance. CD
  3. I was looking for something like the front of the Reference speakers. I own quit a fiew of them so I may be able to get a closer look. Well if I am suppose to use plywood sheets, a router and a sander, I may be in business. I know for sure I have a router, but my sander isn't belt driven. Could you help me from there? CD
  4. What I mean is, how do they make the front part so smooth? I am wondering because I wanted to do a DIY project in the future and I wanted to do the same basic thing. If I saw it right, it does use wood. Anyone know? CD
  5. I honestly think the RP-3s up front, RC-3 as a center and RF-35 as backs. I have an all tower set up and love it. I also have the RS-3II to switch between RF-3II and RS-3IIs and they both have pros and cons. But I belive the RF-3IIs make great surrounds compared to RS-3IIs. I belive your should use RF-35 in my experice. Gosh its nice haveing what I do, I can help so many. But really, it depends on space. It would be a good idea to have your back speakers a foot from th back wall to help prevent refletions when aimed directly at you. Hope all this helps. CD
  6. If your useing a Radio Shack SPL meter, I can help you as I own one myself. 60 range means it measures 50-70 dB, 70 range means it mauseres 60-80, 80 means it measures 70-90 dB and so on. You said you had it on 100 and it read 5 more, I belive that would mean 105 dB and yes, that is loud. Even at 30 Hz your haven't really pushed your sub yet. Hope this helps. CD
  7. Well, I have had the chance to own RF-3IIs with RC-3II and later moved to 3 RF-7s. I notice a smoother transistion from side to side useing the same room and same basic placment as RF-7s are a bit more sensitive on placement. Just for those who care to know. CD
  8. I just ordered a new DVD player to replace my PS2 as a DVD player. Also the CD player kinda sucks to. I had a $300 all in one system that had a CD player that played better. Anyway, its not much, but I ordered the Onkyo DV-SP301. Has progreissive scan and 192 kHz DACs. Its just something till I can get something better. Like a Denon DVD-2900 or something like that. I bought an Onkyo for my parents and noticed its pretty decent. No progressive scan and just simple 96kHz/24 Bit DACs. I haven't heard the one I orderd so I just bought it on experience and I couldn't stand not haveing a real DVD player. Also, sometimes I want to listen to different music while I play. What are your thoughts on Onkyo DVD player I ordered? CD
  9. Well, this is what happend with me. I went out wanting to buy Klipsch speakers. So to me it was either the SF-2 set or RF-3II set. The 3 set cost me 1365, so not more. so I went with that. Because I bought the whole thing at once, I get discounts on everything they sell. So later on got my RSW-15 for 1400 and each of my RF-7s for 675 each. And yes, thats 3 RF-3s in my sig. I like the way it looks. mOOn kinda enspired me to. After I saw his home theather, I was like wow, 3 RF-7s look cool. Also the upgrade from RC-7 to RF-7 was only 175. I would kicked myself if I got an RC-7 with that kinda of a deal. CD
  10. Well, I really didn't do an A/B test with the sub and module. Heck, even my cheesy KSW-100(which is probly one of Klipsch's worse subs)can outdo bose. I suppose I can sit him down, play any bass heavy sence and A/B that. If he still doesn't notice then I dunno what to do. I know for a fact my mom noticed. Her eyes got big for about a second kinda like what was that? Belive it or not, I even noticed some voices sounded better. Right now he has his Bose stuff with my RC-3II and my old Rebel Klipsch sats in the back. I think I'll sit him down this weekend. I am keeping the sub there till about Christmas or when my dad says he doesn't notice anything after the A/B thing. CD
  11. I put my RSW-15 in the living room and my dad watched some parts of Finding Nemo. One bass part was where the ship was falling. I asked him the next day what he thought and he said, I didn't notice any difference. And he has his Bose Module. It kinda pissies me off. I spend more money on my sub then most of his system is worth and he says, I didn't notice a differnce. I will forget buying him a sub this year. CD
  12. Well, thank you for your replyes. I wish I had good news, but it seems my parents decided to limit my spending amount to a very small $100. Althought just for fun, I did hook my RSW-15 to my dads bose system. It it way to much sub for what he has. Ok, I mainly did it as a guide to see what to get him and later got the 100 doller limit talk. O well. CD
  13. I have heard the RW-8,RW-12,RSW-10,12, and 15. When placed right and fully turned up, the RW-12 could keep up with the RF-7s, but for how long up the volume latter I dunno. Althought my dads speakers don't go anywere near as loud, I would like something that could at least keep up with RF-3IIs. My question to you is, do you have to push your sub that hard to keep up with the RF-7s or does it take it about as well as the RSW-12? I suppose if I really wanted to, I could try for the SVS-PB1. I would just have to work alot longer then trying to get the RW-12. I would do DIY, but doing something like this at home would ruin may ruin the suprise, unless I can get a custom box cheap. I know a place were I am respected I could get one, but I dunno how much it would cost. My thoughts were the stryke AV12 or 15 with the AMP350 to power it and perharps use 2 4 inch ports that are 12 inches long that are double flared. From what I read, those subs are almost like the RSW subs. It seems the only real differences are the basket, dustcap, color and the RSW stuff is video shielded with an extra magnet. I dunno if its true, but it almost seems that way. Thank you for your replys so far. CD
  14. Just to let you know, I am very carfull what model numbers I put on here. So for me, its the RW-12 for 475 and the RSW-12 for 1100 just to make sure were on the same page. I also understand why you like your RSW-12 as I have the 15 inch version. I love it the way it sounds. I don't think I could part with it. But my qustion is, how would it compare to the RW-12 and RSW-12. I guess I should of reword it. O well. Thank for the quick reply. CD
  15. As srange as this may seem, I can get the RW-12 for about 475. The SVS would cost me 100 more dollers including shipping. Would it be worth spending the extra 100? What improvements would I notice if the PCi is better, which I belive it is? I am not getting this for myself, but for my father. He wants something for movies but nothing to serious but nothing to weak either. 105 dB from 30 Hz and up should be fine. Just to get an idea, would the PCi be about if not the same as the RSW-12? This fills like a big push, but I wanna know if its worth the extra effort. CD
  16. I see nothing wrong with either. But I think they should sell both versions for each movie. Or do what they did with Finding Nemo. Give them 2 Disk and let them decided how they want to watch it. All will be happy because no matter what TV they own, they can fill the screen without those annoying black lines. It may cost a few bucks more, but whats a few more bucks? Its cheaper then buying both version as seperete DVDs. And what if most of move on to widescreen TVs. We could still watch the same movie and still fill the screen. So, to me, both should be sold in one box. Just my thoughts. CD
  17. Ok, It seems my budget is very limited. I may have 400 at the time christmas comes around to buy my parents whatever it is. Ok, My choices maybe an Onkyo 601 or Klipsch RB-15 maybe RB 25s or RW-8 or 10. I dunno about the Ref sats. Good yes, but for the price I dunno. My dad has a very old Sony reciver. Ever heard of Dolby Pro Logic? Just kidding, but it is that old. 75 watts to each front and sadly only 15 each. I let him borrow my Rebel Sats as ears and my RC-3II and he has, be easy on him, Bose as mains. Which is one reason I want to get him speakers, but I can hear how bad his Sony is threw my RC-3II. What would give the biggest improvement out of speakers, sub, or new reciver? Maybe later I can get something else. CD
  18. Well, I did get mine for 675 each, but the catch would be haveing the buy the whole set. I would explain more, but I dunno what your plans are. CD
  19. Well, I got that japanese thing so i can see the page. I can't read the page thou. Where do we go from the main page? CD
  20. understanding ohm levls my self, it would be possible to run it all 3 over 4 ohmes. But it can be a really tricky wiring job and a real hassle. There 8 ohmes right? Wire 2 8 ohme speakers to 4 ohmes then wire the 4 ohmes to the 8 ohme aera would make 12 ohmes when wired right.Or you could wire the 2 8 ohmes speakers to 16 ohmes and wire that to the 8 speaker left to make 5.3333.... and so on ohmes. I delt alot with car audio math and someone nice enought on this forum gave me the formula for this to. I just forgot what parralled and series do the ohmes. Its been awhile, but I could find out. CD
  21. I saw some blood. If you remember where Trinity almost died after being shot by an agent while falling. Neo was just quick enought to catch her and take out the bullet. Other then that, I can't remember any other blood sences. CD
  22. I have clicks on my RSW-15. But anyway. -10 dB on my reciver and 12:00 on my RSW-15 with music and I simply turn it down to -15 with Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby digtial. 0 Is the highest and -20(still with sound)is the lowest(althought I can turn it completly off after -20). CD
  23. I haven't seen this movie, but do you think my RF-3IIs could handle it, or would I need something like RF-7s in the back to? Considering I don't play much over 105 dB one peak explions and so on, it should give it some excursion to spare when needed I would think. CD
  24. Althought I do own the RSW-15 which does sound pretty amazing. With music, all 3 RSW subs do well. With some movie parts, you'll wish you had something that go a little bit lower. My 15 doesn't distort or anything, it just doesn't play the very very low hz well. If your goal is for movies and you want it to go really low, I may suggest (here it comes folks) SVS. If you goto svsubwoofers.com you can see what models they sell. They only sell online but Tom V. can help you out if you e-mail him. If room is your problem, Sunfire makes good small subs. The largest being a 13 inch cube can keep up with RSW-15. And to answer you question, wattage doesn't mean much. The SVS ultra running at 500 watts can keep up with the RSW-15 if not beat it. If you want a really cheap sub, Polk's new PSW 505 with a 12 inch can keep up with the RSW in SPL for only 500. The RSW 12 does sound better and has better parts, just the Polk can keep up in SPL at least from what I read. Hope this helps. CD
  25. I decided on getting a UPS so that if the power does go out while I am useing my stuff, my things should be fine. Also a USP seems to correct voltages(to a point), prevents surges, and cleans the power going to what I have it pluged to. The only worry is if your UPS can handle what you have. I'll be honest on this. I have a 1200 VA 670 watt UPS with my reciver, PS2, RSW15, and my little 14 inch TV all connected to it, and it hasn't turned its warning light on yet. I would like to get a stronger one, but this was the highest they had at the store. What are your thoughts about using a UPS(or a few) with a Home Theater system? CD
