  1. I have owned several pairs of K Horns, 2 pairs in the room I am in now. I currently own Dunlavy SC IV's, and they are placed in my room corners, Klipschorn Style. I know this is an old thread, but if it were me, I would avoid the modified K Horns, unless you plan to keep them for life, and/or can get them dirt cheap. Re sale value on them will be terrible IF you can even sell them. Sad to say, many potential buyers of a Klipschorn simply don't want someone's "Tinker Toy" On the other hand, the Dunlavy SC IV is still used today by recording engineers, so it will have some resale value, if you have to sell them. I have had great sounds from my old Klipschorns, and from my current Dunlavy SC IV's. I could be happy with either.
  2. The Klipsch K 97 KV used in the Klipsch KSP 300 is anything BUT Bright. It is sweet, musical, but just a little rolled off sounding. I sure wish I could get my hands on a Titanium Diaphragm for it ?
  3. I have to wonder if Bob Crites offers any aftermarket diaphragms for these horn tweeters on the KSP 300 ? Not that the Klipsch KSP 300's "need it", like some Klipsch speakers I have owned in the past did. Of course, one has to be very careful with replacing the diaphragms in a compression driver, because it can change the crossover point, unless it is an exact electrical match to the original diaphragms. From the KSP 300 Review that I posted in the first post of this thread, it can be seen that Klipsch spent a lot of time on the KSP 300 crossover, getting it just right. In fact, the reviewer stated that the crossover in the KSP 300 was smoother at the crossover point, then nearly any crossover he had measured in the past.
  4. Most speaker companies will make one center channel, to match their entire line of speakers, but Klipsch actually makes 2 different center channel speakers, one for the KSP 300, and a different one for the KSP 400 Very impressive ! No "one size fits all" in the old KSP Series Speakers. One day, I will find a semi local pair of the KSP 400's because I live in Tampa, and I can drive to Miami, Orlando, or even Atlanta to get them, when I do find them.
  5. They are warm and musical, vs bright and in your face. Like the review link I posted said "These are not your grandfather's Klipsch Speakers. There is also a notable lack of any Horn Coloration. They will not "romp and stomp" like some more efficient Klipsch speakers will, so if you want to make your ears bleed, these are not the best choice for that, though they will play plenty loud, and more importantly, sound good doing so. The Synergy Premier Line (Klipsch Synergy Premier) or simply KSP 300 really meant an American made premier speaker back then, a far cry from the Cheap Synergy Klipsch Speakers of today, made in China.
  6. The Tampa Florida area, in a suburb called Brandon Florida. I guess there is a moderator on the forum called Youthman who lives just east of me, in Plant City Florida. I see him selling stuff on Craigslist all the time, as he changes speakers, upgrades, etc. But I don't know him personally.
  7. I have long looked for a local pair of the Klipsch KSP 400's, because I like the KSP 300's so much. I have seen pictures of them, and they are stunning to look at.
  8. Thanks Keith, but I actually bought the original sales literature for the KSP 300 and KSP 400 series off of Ebay. It is obvious that Klipsch put a lot of engineering time into these speakers. I wonder why they were discontinued ?
  9. You're not alone in that sentiment. It also has pissed me off that Klipsch no longer has the specs for their older stuff, on the website
  10. I have never heard the RF 5's. I have had zero problems with the KSP 300's amplifiers, and what impresses me so much about them is both the KSP 400 and the KSP 300 each have a different matching center channel speaker! The KSP 300 sounds like no other Klipsch I have ever owned. It is warm and rich sounding, and smooth as butter. An ideal dual purpose movies and music speaker. A far far cry from the cheap Synergy series of today. I was not happy to see Klipsch get sold, especially to Voxx
  11. If there ever was a "sleeper" speaker from Klipsch, it would surely be the KSP 300. I have never heard the larger KSP 400. I have the entire KSP 300 home theater system, with the matching center and surrounds. I totally agree with this review of the KSP 300 http://www.audio-ideas.com/reviews/loudspeakers/klipsch-ksp300.html
  12. Klipschorns - With Cello Audio Pallett Equalizer Klipsch CF 4 Version 1 Original Forte with DJK Mods I know we are only supposed to list 3 Klipsch, but I picked up a full set of KSP 300 speakers, with matching center and surrounds. I am quite impressed with these speakers.
  13. Lot's of good stuff in this thread. A seldom mentioned "sleeper" amp for some Kilpsch Speakers are the NYAL Moscode 300 and Moscode 600 hybrid tube amps. All tube input, with MosFet outputs, and by simply changing the inexpensive input tubes, you can radically change the entire sound of the amps!
  14. The speakers are new to me, so experimentation is certainly in order. I had to face the woofers out vs in, and that got rid of some boominess. I wonder how Randy is using his ?
  15. awesome deal - at least , you know that the speakers will be in great shape - I like the 200 dvd's for 100$ - the jewel cases cost more than a $ each- out here in NY , you would pay 2x for this - take care - KSP 300's and all matching center and surround speakers are IN DA HOUSE (plus, the 200 DVD's) ! It is 1 pm here in the Tampa area, we got back from Orlando at about 10.30 pm. The KSP 300 woofers hummed pretty bad, initially. Lacking the 3 into 2 adapters, we simply cut the ground prong off the subwoofer power cables. Hum eliminated Speakers are bi wired, and no LFE hooked up, yet. The Klipsch KSP 300's replaced my Infinity IL 50's, and I have been in the main room, listening to them, the last few hours. But only on music, since we did not put the Klipsch Matching Center in place of the Infinity IL 36 center, yet. On Bass, I must give the edge to the Infinity IL 50. Even w/o using the RABOS Feature of the IL 50, the bass is more tuneful, and nearly as powerful as the Klipsch KSP 300. And, the Infinity is only a 10 inch woofer, vs the 12 inch woofer of the KSP 300. The Klipsch have a crossover that is FIXED at 120 hz This rather high crossover point forces you to keep the sub level fairly low, or you get Boom The Infinity IL 50 allows you to totally Bypass the internal crossover, and lets your receiver (and you) choose your crossover point. This is not a "deal breaker" for me, because I have a pair of separate subs I can rely on to shake the piss out of the room. But, if you have no separate subwoofers, and are going to have to rely on a pair of KSP 300's to shake a room, you are going to have to put up with some muddy mid bass. I guess you could also rely on Audyssey to correct things too ? I seldom use tone controls, Audyssey, or any EQ. Now, for the good part - The KSP 300 eats the Infinity IL 50, as far as imaging, warmth, and musicality goes. Neither speakers are Bright, but the KSP 300 has much more detail going on, especially in the range that it's compression driver operates in. The one inch Infinity CMMD Tweeter just can not equal this Klipsch Compression Driver.
  16. T2K and Randy, here are the speakers I bought. He has not pulled the ad yet, since he has other stuff for sale http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/4958388361.html Quite the deal, I must say I did not need the subwoofer, so it will be staying until he sells it. The seller is a quality guy, who lives in a gated community, an audiophile, just like us. I bought all 200 of those DVD's too!
  17. that sounds just right Thanks Guys! I plan to use an old Comforter and pillows for a soft truck bed, and some large plastic leaf bags, with masking tape.
  18. the built in powered subwoofers.are not the best here for the KSP 300 - and the KSP 400 is the real gem of the series - if you like the KSP 300 - the 400 would be astounding in comparison Locally, it is nearly impossible to find a KSP 300, much less a KSP 400 But subwoofers are the Least of my "worries". In my corners, I have a pair of homebrew subwoofers, that look much like the bottoms of Klipschorns. Each enclosure has a 4 ohm 15 inch Cadence Wild Beast driver in it, with ungodly XMax I have a pretty powerful pro sound amp (800 WPC into 4 ohms) driving these monsters. The drivers I used were once pretty common in car stereo SPL competition. They are 92 db efficient, and go down flat to an honest 25 hz. The box tuning is using what is called an EBS Alignment, so they are not boomy, mounted in the corners. I once owned a pair of SVS Ultra Cylinders. Awesome subwoofers. I wanted to see IF I could beat the pair of SVS Ultra's. My home made subwoofers do not blow the SVS Ultra's away, but they are a little better. I am going to pick these KSP 300's up over in Orlando (I am near Tampa) early tomorrow morning!!!!!! I have an uncovered pick up truck, and must fear the Rain. The rains this time of year are almost always in the afternoon, so hopefully, I will be back home by noon tomorrow, with my speakers. The guy also has 200 Movies (DVD's) I am buying from him for an awesome deal! - the deal sounds great - Bring a tarp or 2 and tie them around in case it rains - these are beautiful cabs that dont like water - U Bet they will be tarped and tied!
  19. Randy, that is an AWESOME System Brother Maybe someday, I will find a KSP 400 locally ? Until then, the KSP 300's will have to do. The cabinets on your speakers are beautiful, mine are just basic Black.

  21. I was unaware of them. The Klipsch KSP 300 got an awesome review here http://www.audio-ideas.com/reviews/loudspeakers/klipsch-ksp300.html
  22. One has to wonder WHY Klipsch sort of GAVE the powered speaker tower market to their competitors Sort of like the way General Motors decided to quit making Camaro's, and gave the muscle car market to the Ford Mustang. Please correct me, if I am wrong, but the KSP 300 and KSP 400 were the only powered tower speakers Klipsch ever made, with built in powered subwoofers. The very things Klipsch stands for, high efficiency, low distortion, and pattern control, are ideal for home theater.
  23. Thanks so very much Keith, for the information. So, there is a real compression driver being used as the KSP 300's tweeter, vs just a conventional non compression dome tweeter, with a waveguide slapped on it The KSP 400 is different from the KSP 300. It has an additiional midrange driver, and a larger woofer. I BET your system really Rocks At this moment, I just have Infinity Interlude IL 50 for the fronts, and the larger IL 36 3 way centers. The IL 50's have 10 inch subwoofers, with 250 watts on them. They sound OK, but are only 87 db efficient, so I miss the dynamics. Plus, I am in the far field with Tile floors, and a large sliding glass door Clarity could be much better in my present system, and I am sure the throw and pattern control of a Horn will be most welcome here. Of course, the extra cone area of the 12 inch KSP 300 subwoofers, vs the 10 inch woofers in the Infinity will also be most welcome too! My current surrounds are the Infinity Quadrapole's. They are basically 6 small full range drivers per speaker, radiating hemispherically. Because they are small, efficiency is quite low, and they are also not capable of any real detail. AS a whole, my present system is very "polite" sounding. No jump factor, and I can barely hear the surrounds, w/o using an external amp on them
  24. I have literally been searching for a pair of the Klipsch KSP 300's for many years, based upon the suggestions of several fellow Klipsch fans. A guy here has the complete set of the KSP 300's, with the KSP C 5 for the center and the KSF S5 surrounds he was selling, because he has bought a new Klipsch Home Theater System, with Klipschorn fronts, and a single Cornwall, for his center. I have sent him the Money via PayPal already. I don't usually buy a pair of speakers w/o hearing them first, but KSP 300's are not easy to find. They weight 80 pounds, and people seldom keep boxes for 15 + years, so shipping and packing would eat me alive! These are only a few hours away from me, so all that remains is to go get them in my truck. Of course, I am quite excited Because I have 7.1 electronics, I will need to locate an additional pair of KSF S5 surrounds of course. Has anyone ever heard these speakers ? They seem to have an almost "cult like" following among many of my Klipsch audio friends, who swear by them. Is the tweeter a true compression driver, or a conventional dome tweeter, with a horn on it ? Are the drivers foam or rubber surrounds, and if it should require new drivers, are any still for sale at Klipsch ? How about the subwoofer amps, were they reliable, and if it should ever need a new subwoofer amp, are any still around ? The guy I have bought these KSP 300's from is the original owner, He absolutely loved this system. He told me that over the time he has owned them, he had considered updating his system with newer Klipsch Home Theater speakers several times, but felt he needed to go all the way to Klipschorns, for a real, across the board improvement.
  25. If you can control the level between the speakers drivers, then yes, bi amping the speakers will make a huge difference. I just picked up a Harman Kardon avr 3600, so we will see if it is possible to control the power levels of the amplifiers, in a bi amp situation. If so, then you can simply turn the midrange/tweeter levels down a little, so the woofers drive harder. This can compensate for 3 to 4 feet off the back wall speaker placement.
