  1. i have both, and would take the heresies
  2. i think this is another case of suggestion over common sense. i have heard the systems mentioned, and have no problem with the 7's they just arent, and never will be in the same class as the cornerhorns.o matter how many times you close your eyes and click your heals
  3. with the receiver you have you are making a mistake to even consider synergy, especially in wall/ceiling speakers, everything you mentioned is completly mediocre compared to the electronics, and will sound it
  4. depends on your speakers. my 2 khorns sound better than my sons reference set up, and when i use the rest of my 5 heritage speakers i dont need 6-7, so if you have small speaks t5han maybe, besides sound tracks are only in 6 channel anyway
  5. my first decent amp was a onkyo 797, going with a complete rf system, now being used by my son, i had similar denon and yamaha setups, as well as a few worse brands sony...... the onkyo when balanced does well with klipsch, a tad bright, but plenty of power, and great usability, i have seen the speakers that the complainers of onkyo have owned and naturally they sound bad. in short, the onkyo is a step up from yammie, but not as good as denon or many other higher end receivers. just stay away from sony, yammie.....
  6. reference verses heritage? hmmmmmmm? thats not even in the same league, especially the two you are comparing. will you lose in the end? no doubt! you cant even compare the cornwall to anything reference except the 7, and than the 7 does not have the bass response the corn does
  7. after having my heritage and reference systems in different configurations in several different rooms, mixing locations and speaker orietations, i will tell you that anything heritage is better than anything referencem and yes the khorn rears are a bit much, but as well as they play who cares? the las are stand alone speaks, as are the khorns, just be sure to in the least match the center channel, dont go with anything smaller than a la for center
  8. from your description of your electronics i would say that there is your problem, i have gone through a few players, than i dumped my complete cd collection, than i went tt, than i bouight a good cd player ,krell, than i koicked myself for not starting with a good to great player in the begining, would have saved alot of money and frustration, my current alternate player is my denon 2900, its good but very undynamic compared to the krell, and if your gear is as old as you say, run dont walk and upgrade. now
  9. old wives tale for sure, unless the difference is hundreds of feet there is nothing to worry about, even hundreds of feet wouls be such a little difference that it is doubtfull that iw ould be very noticable, and than to compensate you might just go up once in guage
  10. you hit the nail on the head, its the sony, they sound like boom boxes
  11. ouch, thats gotta hurt. they list at 649.00, but my reason for my statement is that denons lower end gear lacks dynamics, punch, especially in extreem passages, plenty of bells and whistles, but lacking in overall sound quality
  12. after re reading your post i have to add the rfac 7' you want to use as fronts deserve timbre matching, all of the suggestions you have made will not make for the kind of sound your fronts will put out in ceiling, bad choice, synergy worse. if you want good stay with the 7 series, even the rs 7's dont quite do the job properly
  13. yeah greg fluke is the best out there
  14. hey earl, i used to have a similar rotel set up, and i sold every stick, but for different reasons. as i was in the process of demoing electronics i had rotel-denon- and b&k goind head to head, i did all three on music and ht, i demoed everything on b&w speaks so the soundstage was a bit dofferent than my klipsches bnut i knew the sound was equal in all presentations. and i have to say the b&k was just in a different leaguie than the others from manufacture to soundplus the b&k is a non current limiting design whaich really allows for huge dynamics in ht, i demoed the electronics using episode 2, and the differences in explosioms and such was huge, plus b&k is know for being analytical? meaning that it discects all data and places it at your feet, or ears in this case, and it just happens that the avr 507 goes for around 2500, the b&k will walk all over the rotel gear you presently own

    My HT

definatly replace the 7 with something from the heritage linei used to have a simalar setup, but it just always sounded off? and than i found a single lascalla, and the entire soundstage changed, the 7 is great, but for reference, not heritage, the difference is remarkable
  16. i would start with matching speakers, you have such a mixmatch of speakers that no electronics would sound balanced, get i series (klipsch) and stick with it. after that begin audioning electronics
  17. comparing synergy to reference?hmmmmm? i think the best way to compare the 2 is to leave the synergy in the box
  18. klipsch are great, and i think they are a target is because they are a benchmark. but having had many different makes of receivers and seperates on a variety of klipsches i can tell you yammy does make your ears bleed terrible, sony is like a boom box, as far as good? almost everything else is a cut above
  19. everything looks good exceept for that puny little denon. why get good speakers and than scrimp on a receiver?
  20. the rb's arent near as good as the rf's, for any application. unless you are limited in space. the rf's in all sizes have a better all around voice, they have a better soundstage. and better low end.
  21. ok, i have owned the grados you speak of, the 60's will meet your needs better than the 80's because the 60's flat perform without amplification, the 80's can be a bit blah without amplification. everything else just does not sound very good without outboard headphone amps, the weak point in the grado line is the low end they sparkle and are very active and well defined but all the grado line even the rs 1-2's lack in bass, the senns have much better bass and are an all around better can but do require amplification
