  1. You have comitted 3 self contradictions, some clarification would be nice....First you say that horns would not work in your room (and I did read that in the original post by the way, I was just curious about what type of sound you're looking for that horns can't supposedly give you). Then, you go on to say that the speakers you want to buy are comporable to KHorns, which seems to have a positive connotation to it....This is followed by you saying that the a/d/s speakers you want give a clean, airy, spacious etc. etc. sound that Klipsch can not provide, when you had just said they are very comporable to Klipsch. Anyone with any bit of audio knowledge will tell you that 90% of consumer stores do not properly set up their speakers, and anyone with any bit of audio knowledge should also be able to gather that much just by looking at the set ups. Speaker placement is extremely touchy, and even in most of our homes it is impossible, or impracticle to have the speakers placed to reproduce sound to their full potential. Best Buy and Circuit City place their speakers about as far from ideal as possible. They upwards of 20 speakers crammed in one room usually, and more often than not, the speakers won't even play and if they do they'll be on the opposite sides of rooms or burried in other speakers. I'd suggest not basing your opinion of a speaker, or any audio component on this information in the future.

I thought the speakers sounded like crap so I went over to the JBL section and for a cheaper price I could get a speaker that sounded WAY better. But I ended up not getting either of them and got some heresys. I will soon be getting rid of the heresys and getting some speakers that have a sound that isn't possible to get with horns in my room. If you are looking at something at the synergy price range get some heresys, cornwalls, or you might be able to get some lascalas for about 700 to 1000 dollars. ---------------- A sound not possible to get with horns? I'm just curious about what type of sound you are looking for. Also, JBL northridge vs. klipsch synergy? I have SF-1's and SF-2's and prefer them over JBL stuff I have heard. JBL always seem to have a really heavy bottom end without much defenition or finesse. Lascala's for 700 dollars would be a very lucky find. On ebay you could get some for that price, but they'd more than likely be in rough condition. Usually you'll have to spend in upwards of 1,000 to get some in good condition, excluding shipping which is very high since they weigh in at 120 pounds each. plus they're huge compared to the synergy series which may rule them out as an option for him.
  3. the RF-5's larger horn does not equate to a stronger mid range and highs, most describe the difference as a smoother midrange and high end, and in general smoother presentation over all and NOT a boost in the mids and highs. the crossover difference between the two speakers does make a difference, and one that can easily be heard. also, the larger horn allows for superior imaging and sound stage.
  4. I'd go RF-5's. Many people who own RF-3's/35's aren't willing to accept the fact that there is a significant difference between the two it seems. I own RF-5's combined with an RSW-15 subwoofer...I find the combo stunning. I know a few people who have upgraded from RF-3's to RF-5's and said it's night and day, I also know a few who own both and say the same thing.
  5. I never said you hadn't heard the RSW-15, read more carefully. 110-113 db at 20 hz? where do you get these numbers? who made the measurments? 110-113 is a pretty big difference (it would be the diference of doubling amplifier power, though you already know that).
  6. pinipig, you underestimate the RSW-15...maybe due to the fact that you don't have one, or know very much about them...probably both. you knock them constantly, and with each post you show more ignorance on the subject. In tom nousaines testing a single RSW-15 was actually capable of 97 db at 20 hz, very potent indeed. at a price of around $1,200, this is very competitive with all consumer subwoofers. the CS ultras are in another price range at $2,100. depending on room gain, the RSW-15 is a fierce subwoofer capable of handling 99.9% of the material thrown at it. I am aware that a B4 plus will out do it, but look at the price differences. pushing $4,000 vs. $1,200, it damn well better out do it. If you're going to be spending that much I would seriously look into the Aerial Acoustics subs, they are considerded to be some of the most accurate subs made (in every area) and are flat below 20 hz.
  7. you could get 2 RSW-15's and an RSW-12 or 3 RSW-15's for 3,500-3,600ish
  8. does anyone know what klipsch uses as the test freqeuncy when determining sensitivity, or is it an average of a wide band? if not, wouldn't they be able to use a frequency of say....8,000 hz, which is 6.5 db higher than 1,000 to get these figures provided their testing rooms and equipment provide similar results to Deans? I was just wondering because I don't think they mention anything about the frequency used as a reference in the specs.
  9. if I were you I would cut way back on a receiver (I'd shop in the $200-300 range) and spend the $500 saved to upgrade to the Reference series stuff. this will give you more sound quality for the money.
  10. top of the line Confidence floorstander*

But when shoping for the ultimate in speakers Dynaudio and Focal plus Accuton drivers level all competition. The best Dynaudio makes make Klipsch look and sound like Cheapo Mart gear. ---------------- ALL competition? I'm not so sure about that. It is obvious that Dynaudio are some of the better speakers in production, but I think it's a stretch to call them the best. I have heard the top of the line Contour floorstanding model, and I can honestly say it in no way compared to the Verity Audio Lohengrins...Maybe in terms of finish quality, but even that would be a stretch. The Verity's are just that good.

  13. I have no problem with hiss in my system, even when everything is maxed out. I use MIT Avt 3 series cable for everything, so I have no real motivation to upgrade to XLR. plus, my old Mcintosh amp is not capable of it, neither is my preamp.
  14. *gasp!* a comment on his sexuality! hmmm, you just helped T2K's argument.

And atleast OSX doesnt need a crucial update every 15 minutes like XP, go go Microsoft job well done on your OS's more holes than a block of swiss cheese! That is all. Tweek signing out. ---------------- there is one lesson you must learn; it is impossible for either the apple or sony sub to figuratively "suck" because that is an adjective that describes the product comparatively speaking. sucks compared to what? the Krell MRS? RSW-15? SVS B4+? KLH $50 8 inch? what are you talking about? maybe if you'd provide us with some numbers we WOULD be able to take YOUR OPINION as fact, rather than what it is....an opinion. I do agree, sony does not make speakers that I would put up against any of the speaker companies mentioned by the ear, but then again they weren't meant to be either. Klipsch are not designed to compete with Verity Audio Lohengrin's, and they are priced accordingly just as the sony sub is. reread your sig tweek, you might find that classic lincoln quote useful.
  16. oh, and Etymotic is the correct spelling.
  17. I think it's better that they're bugs, and yes they are audiophile quality, considerded by many to be some of the best sealed headphones you can get. They block 23 db of sound compared to the Bose 15 db (I believe that's what it is) which is more than a considerable amount. Because they're ear bugs if you were traveling with, say, an ipod you could just pocket both and be good to go, with phones like the bose you need a place to put them.
  18. HD-600's and the Bose sound cancelling headphones can not be compared in terms of sound quality...the bose just won't have a chance. I have heard them and wasn't so impressed with the sound quality (compared to my HD-600's). If it were me I would have gotten either the senn cancelling model or etymotic ER-4S's, which are more portable, provide excellent isolation (23 db), and sound better...plus they just aren't made by Bose, which is always a plus, not to mention about 80$ cheaper at www.headphone.com http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=26&productID=0020100000
  19. I have a PB-12 that I use in my home theatre, it does the job and can keep up with the SF-2's SC-1 and SF-1's just fine....it's good enough in my book, though they are plagued with amplifier problems.
  20. MC are garbage...To me they are the Bose of the speaker/component cable world. Overpriced, and a whole load of BS. The bit that I have had from them sounded pretty yucky. Their interconnects have a kind of tinny sound to them, and are harsh to listen to. I prefered the generic cords that came with my gear. Then I upgraded to MIT, which sound very, very good. They go a bit beyond typical speaker cables ( mitcables.com ) and I think you'd like them if you tried them out. I didn't believe that cables could make a difference until I switched to monster cable and hated them, then moved up to MIT and loved them...
  21. except that 50 cokes at 4.50 a peice only adds up to $225....
  22. was this player part of a home theatre in a box system?
  23. pinipig you're really quite wrong. your SVS won't be able to compare with the RSW-15 at those levels. http://members.cox.net/frankcarter/Tom%20Nousaine%20Sub%20Data.htm read there....note the 20-39 CS falls short of the RSW-15 by 6 db with a 300 watt amp. if enclosure size and driver differenes are not taken into account, you would need an additional 900 watts of power going through your PCi 25-31. Then, considering the enclosure size and tuning point of your 25-31 PCi is NOT the same as the 20-39, and is in fact a good deal smaller with a higher tuning point, I think it's relatively safe to say that the two shouldn't even be compared.
  24. here's a pic. sorry, it's kind of blurry. The SF-2's are in front, SF-1's behind out of sight, JBL PB-12 sub at the end of the couch and SC-1 underneath the tv. This configuration gave me the best sound for what I have to work with. everyone that seems to come over seems to think it kicks ***, so I'm satisfied.
