  1. Champagne: Yes. I got the caulk at Home Depot and its made by Dap: Dynaflex 230 (model 18300) White Elastomeric Sealant - about $3.16 a 10.1 oz. tube. -Picky
  2. I do not work for a theater but the majority of those in my area use Klipsch.
  3. boomer: Hey, nice setup! I just love your reel-to-reels! One looks like a Teac. What's the other? It looks like a 4-track. An Aiwa perhaps? I have an old Teac A3340S 4-track myself that I've got stored away in a road case due to a lack of space to display it. In fact, I think I'd like to sell it someday so it would at least get used by somebody who'd appreciate it. Anyway, thanks for sharing your nice room with us. -Picky
  4. TheEar: SVS's? Geez Ear, I just spent the rest of my money on all that booze! (HIC) Thanks for the good words, Ear! Seriously, if I bought any more component right now the wife would make me sleep in the garage! Give it at least one year.....maybe two. -Picky
  5. I love hockey and I always will. It has always been a game of a very violent nature. Those who do not care for violence are free to change the channel. I think that the game should be policed from within. Due to the nature of the famous, extreme rivalry between the AV's and the Wings (I'm from Detroit), far be it from me to defend an Av's player. But, what happened to Moore the other day fills me with sorrow and deep respect for every hockey player that sets a skate the ice. Despite any missed calls in the past on Moore by the officials (shame on them), that should have no bearing on what Bertuzzi chose to do to Moore the other day. I'd like to see Bertuzzi kept off the ice until Moore is able to return. Should Moore's career end due to the injuries he sustained, then Bertuzzi's career should end, too. It's as simple as that. -JHMO -Picky
  6. The wife's "baby" is a 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra in Laser Red with only 19,000 miles on it. I drive a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT Premium. It's red. I enjoyed my first Sport Trac (that I'd leased) so much, that I decided to buy this second one when the lease was up on the first. -Picky
  7. artto: I could not agree with you more! I am on my second case of caulk (somewhere around tube number 30) and I have been using it EVERYWHERE! I works! It is very effective at preventing wallboard "buzz" at low frequencies when you take the time to put a bead of caulk on all of the studs (including to the top plates and sole plates) you are mounting your drywall to prior to screwing it down. I made sure there were no breaks in the bead of caulk in order to form a seal, as you were mentioning. I also caulked completely around all electrical outlets and installed seals around the wallplates. I am using a siliconized, latex elastomeric caulk that is never supposed to harden. On the plus side; it's paintable! Arrto, thanks for always being willing to share your expertise with us "weekend warriors". -Picky
  8. Rudy81: I visited your site and you have an outstanding room (and equipment)! Nice job! -Picky
  9. Justin: Although, I have read your posts for a very long time, this is my first time conversing with you. And, there certainly seems to be a lot of great people on this forum who care a great deal about you. Knowing this, how could I not care, too? What has happened to you and your family is very unfortunate. But, when you do go, take with you the knowledge that we all stand behind you and support you in everything you do and everywhere you go. Also know that He stands by your side as well. You are wise beyond your years my friend. God go with you. -Picky
  10. Champagne: I can't speak for m00n but he and I both have rooms of similar dimension. Mine is 10.5 x 19 and situated in a basement, so I have a concrete floor and a low 7' ceiling. m00n's has a much taller ceiling and it's above ground (I think). I am extremely pleased with how my room performs sonically and visually. The ONLY thing I would advise you of to be aware of (I think m00n might agree) is the width should be a little bit wider, say a minimum of 11.5 feet. This is because of the theater seating both he and I have used. m00n has genuine fold-down theater seats and I have the La-Z-boy Matinee Theater Loungers and with both of our rooms being only 10.5 feet wide, we are able to only seat three seats across comfortably. I would have prefered to have been able to seat 4 across instead, but a brick chiminey and some utilities decided that for me! Good luck and "Welcome to your nightmare!" Hey m00n! How 'bout adding yer two-cents, buddy! -Picky
  11. artto: I am really sorry to hear of your troubles. What a pain in the arse! I'd like to recommend my Pioneer Elite to you. All Elites carry a two-year warranty. I have been running it for one year now without any issues and the sound through my RS-7s and the rest is fantastic. Model VSX-49TXi. There are other models with similar features available at lower cost than this flagship model. There is now a newer model than mine: the 59 TXi. Best of luck. I hope that HK will do something agreeable for you. Best of luck! -Picky
  12. fini: BTW: Al & Carla did the welcome signs for your city! Check out the attachment! -Picky
  13. More Firesignisms: "I love the future, I'm in it!" - "Made it myself and I Love it!" - "How do i like the future? Well, the future's not here yet!" To the tune of 'Back in the saddle, again': ...."Back from the shadows again, out where an Indian's your friend, where the vegetables are green, and you can pee right into the stream (and that's important)! Back from the shadows again".....
  14. Chris Robinson: ----------------------------- about: "Porgy Tirebiter" ----------------------------- I see we have a fellow Firesign Theater buff in our midst! ..........."Now, follow the yellow rubber lines to your seats". -Picky
  15. fini: Wow! you certainly do know the place well. Al & Carla opened the sign shop back in the early 1980's. They've rented the building the entire time as the owner always wanted too much for the property. It's a shame, too because that little service station is a very cool-looking, quaint building with a good location. They live up in Santa Rosa. They are wonderful people. My wife and I have been at the shop many times. I'm not sure if I remember the market you speak of, but I do know of a much larger super market in Cotati just around the corner from the shop that may be the best supermarket I have ever been in. I collect hot sauces as one of my other hobbies and that supermarket has the largest collection I have seen in a market! Normally, I come home from there with 8 to 10 new bottles that I have yet to find elsewhere. There is also the Whole Foods Store in Sebastipol that has a limited but unique selection of hot sauces (expensive!). They are across the street from the parking lot that the open market is held in by the farmers. One can find really fresh produce there in that open market. That entire area that you live in is a sightseers delight. I have shot an enormous amount of film and digital movie footage all along there and up and down the coast. It's too bad they closed Nick's Cove! Know the place? It was one of our favorite places to have a burger and beer or some oysters. -Picky
  16. It constantly amazes me how much money our government spends on research just to re-discover that: 1) Mother nature is in control of herself. 2) There really is no global warming. It a cyclic thing. 3) Man isn't as important or as influential on this earth as he thinks he is. 4) Go back to number one and repeat! -Picky
  17. fini: Geez! Small world, aint it? Yes, I do know Rhonert Park. That is where we always catch the bus to SF airport when we are one our way back from our visits to Santa Rosa. My wife's cousin and her husband own Hines Signs in Cotati. They are right on the corner of Old Redwood Highway and Henry Street in an old 1920's filling station. Sorry, I don't know Dwyer street (Detroit's a huge city). I was born in Detroit, too. I'm 52. 27 years ago, I lived out near Reno, Nevada for about 7 years in a little town called Fallon. That's were my wife and I met. She's a country girl from Nevada. I got to know the west very well and boy, do I miss the mountains! The bay area is gorgious, too....or should I say "fabulous?" Anywho, you live in a very beautiful part of this country my friend. Hope that wind has died-down for you by now. Happy trails! -Picky
  18. gg: There is the chance that your control may not be functioning correctly. I am not familiar with the 2.1's. Do they have a little desk-top volume control tower like the 5.1's? Perhaps, it may be a good idea to contact customer service and see if they have any suggestions. They might even want to replace it for you. They swapped-out the one for my Promedia 5.1s when it went bad. It might be worth considering? Best of luck! -Picky
  19. There was a terrible fire in the main state library near the state capital building in Charleston, West Virginia last week. The entire genealogy section was destroyed! ....both books burned! ......as told to me by a fellow from Virginia.
  20. JBRichter: Looks like a very nice setup that you have. Any photos? Until your post, I had not heard of Carada Screens (I obviously live in a cave). I visited their site and I noticed the construction of their screens is quite similar to that of my Stewart 78" Screen, yet the Carada is about one-third the price of the Stewart. It would be interesting to compare the effectiveness of the actual screen materials. Just for the record, we are completely happy with our Stewart Screen, but we also enjoy saving money when we can, too. Best of luck with your new setup! -Picky
  21. fini: Now might be a good time to get that whisk broom, ladder, extension cord and saw off your roof before they fly around and cause some damage! Seriously, I hope nothing gets messed up out there. Hold onto something heavy! We get some gaud-awful thunderstorms and tornadoes here in Michigan. But, they usually occur from April through August. Do you live near Sabastipol or Santa Rosa? My wife's cousin lives in Santa Rosa and they own a business in Cotati: all North of SF. Beautiful area! -Picky
  22. kev313: No, actually it is TBrennan from Chicago that is suggesting that Krispy Kremes are Hillbilly Donuts. BBB simply expounded on that and threw Chicago in for good measure. KK started in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. -Picky
  23. TBrennan: Yeah, good, ole' Chi-Town. I love the place. Your city sure has a lot of class and the best pizza in the world! I think the reason many people do not care for the Krispy Kremes may be because they use vegetable oil instead of lard when frying the cakes and that makes them taste different. I dunno for sure. But, there's no discounting that they are quite popular in various areas of the country. I prefer the lard-laced variety, myself. BTW: Great Polack joke! Thanks. BBB: Eminem would be proud! That be one def jam, dog! bkrop: Yes! Pollock is a fish...my real name is Nemo. Thanks for the correction (polack). Ear: Huh? Wy jestecie jedzi³y zabawnymi Kanadyjczyk-eh? (You are one, funny Canadian, eh?) cluless: Dziêkuj¹ za t³umaczenie! (Thanks for the translation!) Lex Kempo: Hmm....A Polish-Canadian from Montreal? Umm......TAK-OUI, eh? Thanks, all! -Picky
  24. cluless: Yes, you are correct! I am impressed! Very good! Paczkis (punch-keys or poonch-keys) jelly donuts are a huge annual Polish tradition here in Detroit with fillings such as prune, raspberry, strawberry, lemon, custard, apple and blueberry. Every year on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, Polish Bakeries in the town of Hamtramck turn out literally ten of thousands of these plump jelly donuts. About $10 million dollars worth are sold around Fat Tuesday each year in Michigan. Obviously, places other than the genuine Polish bakeries make them too, but they are just not the same. Paczki means: "little package" in Polish. One Paczki is actually called a paczek (poon-check). Two or more are paczki. One cake is about 420 calories, 20 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbs and 30 milligrams of cholestrol (they're fried in lard). Is it any wonder Detroit is the fattest city in the U.S.? I happen to be 1/4th Polish myself. Happy Fat Tuesday to you all! -Picky
