  1. what is the third channel for anyone?? i like to think of it as backup incase i blow one up, lol also, i assume it wouldn't be a left or a right, but perhaps both mixed together (center)??? thanks, -justin
  2. mobiledomeless, i didn't see your post, about CJ thread? can i get a link? I did see the post about a newbie system and i am going to bid on that Jolida JD-1701 so please no body here bid against me =) The main thing i want are tubes. Either in the preamp or integrated like in the jolida. But for that price i really can't pass it up!! my musical preference is 90% blues. a little rock, but nothing heavier than godsmack... usually CLASSIC ROCK and a little jazz (mainly cause i don't have any jazz cds or vinyl. thanks -justin
  3. BTW if anyone is interested, i'm selling the SAME music on cd, burned from mp3's i downloaded... the cd is in mint condition, never even been listened too. It is now frozen cryogenecially deep within the core of the earth. www.ebay.com/youGottaBeFrigginKiddingMe/theBestMp3CdEver.html
  4. the Decware ZTPRE is very nice www.decware.com -justin

Just curious. ---------------- i have about 1500 bucks to spend. the preamp i am considering costs ~1000 bucks. so that leaves ~500.
  6. I've narrowed it down between the Margules Acrh-1 OR a Decware ZTPRE with an adcom or rotel amp of 80 to 120 watts. What do you guys think would have the best sound? (feel free to recommend any other power amps in the $300-$500 price range of equilavent power) -Justin
  7. i surely haven't ignored a tube amp or tube integrated, but i'm really poor... lol. So i'm doing some hi-fi bargin shopping if you will. I'm seriously looking at the Margules ACRH-1 hybrid integrated amplifier. It looks great. I want tube sound, but it doesn't have to be the BEST sounding rig in the world (that's once i make more than $500 a month. College - parttime job sucks... ) Do you have a good tube integrated you can reccommend?? that would be great! sorry when i said eico i was being lazy. I was thinking of all old tube amps in general. like you said scott & also dynaco (spelling?). and others. But i'm half way scared to get used gear cause i don't have alot of money to throw around, so getting NOS tubes & figuring out what to do, with tweaks and mods kinda is a bit much. Someday... someday however that unbuilt eico would be great i would love to build my own amp & bond with it (you guys know what i mean) -justin
  8. where did you guys get them from, and how much did they cost? Cause i found them 3 for 50 bucks... and with my current gear the gear would be better spent elsewhere (such as radio shack cables!!) HAH I know what you mean about those crazy claims, but i take pretty much everything with a grain of salt. But, once i get everything else i want, those would be a good place to drop some cash I'll write down ya'lls vendor (if anyone remembers) and use it for later reference, thx
  9. I never said it would revolutionize the way you listen to music. However, i do like the idea about sitting on it, lmao. >8D But, for those with vibration problems... (i know some of you have tennis balls), it's a thought
  10. not bad... might want to check out ebay for some used klipsch. Or you can get rf-3's for about 800 new. For only 200 more bucks i'd definetly say it would be worth it. EDIT: maybe i am a little too forgiving...
  11. have you guys heard of these things? Suposedly they isolate your equipment... all the reviews i've found were VERY positive. here are some of the reviews i looked at. http://www.audioreview.com/Others/Black+Diamond+Racing+Pyramid+Cones+Mk.+4/PRD_117780_1590crx.aspx this link includes a picture http://www.amusicdirect.com/products/detail.asp?sku=ABDRM4 just thought it was something you guys should know about, or if you did know about them i was wondering your thoughts. -justin

The sound is simply "orgasmical". It will really deliver all the tonal qualities of Tube amplifiers using a SS out. The same day (in the same location) I listened to pure Tubes and a SS, I would say that my Hybrid is capable of 95% of what an all tubes solution can. Oh, and the bass is more "tight". Manuel Delaflor You said you audiioned several different models. What other models did listen to? This is in my price range, i might just get it What area do you live in? It sure would be nice to know where you listened to them at also Justin, you live you live in houston. What good audio stores are there? I live in lake charles, la. Theres nothing here (my klipsch dealer only sells yamaha). thanks
  13. I'm going for the hybrid approach. tube preamp & solid state amp to compliment my RF-5's. For the solid state amp I looked at the adcom & rotel in the 80-120 watt range. I am looking to spend no more than $1500 bucks for both preamp & amp. But i didn't know a good brand of tube preamp. Most of the ones i found were in the $2000 price range *cough*. Can't afford that, sorry bob carver signature series!! *drool* How would this setup compare to an Eico (sound quality not price )? Because that's the only other option i have thought of. I will get the best i can for 1500 bucks, I just wanted some thoughts from you guys. thanks -justin
  14. Maybe I should have said that tube is the audio part of the computer. Reviews say that it sounds GREAT... sure it's no eico or scott, but gotta start somewhere, heh

  16. They haven't come in yet (next week) but i'm trying to get a good starting point. With as much as I have learned about bi-wiring, placement, etc... (and the fact that their klipschs's) i don't think i can go wrong thanks -justin
  17. I have two RF-5's. 15 feet between speakers and 10-12 feet from the speakers to my listening location (like the picture). The Circle is my listening location & the two X's are the speakers. SHould the speakers be angled directly at my listening location or angled more towards the walls or straight with the walls. Also how far should they be from the walls (side & back) the dealer said 6" from both walls. But i know the people here know BEST. Thanks for the help guys -Justin
  18. i'll have to do it the way he posted it... besides my klipshs are loud enough as they are don't need any more power going to them thanks -justin
  19. This thread definetly rocks... i'm going to start getting stuff soon (hopefully) and when i do i'll let you guys know what i think. Come to find out my dad has a decent turntable!! so I'm going to throw a good needle in it and grab up some vinyl... WooHoo!! Although my friends (mostly know nothing about audio) are going to laugh when they find out i'm listening to records on 1500 dollar speakers) haha... so little do they know! -justin
  20. You guys have really done it now... Got me set on getting a record player! I thought i was an audiophile before, but now that i'm broke, i KNOW that i'm one haha I'm making a big list of everything you guys recommend and i'm going to check out pawn shops - garage sales, etc... going to try to find some good vinyl. Maybe i can find some old family members with records i can have.... you never know! p.s. thanks for the help & a tube amp is coming next i think
  21. glad to get so many replies. I do have a record store in my area... and i will go check that out. Thanks for the ideas guys. Especially when it comes to which record labels are good & bad
