  1. hey Craig, You have mail!!! Cornwaller
  2. ...in these days of technological bliss we have none-other than the ultimate set of "arf-ohmed" matched woofers that at a glance would not immediately impress other audiots; let them wallow in their complacency. I on the other hand; rejoice that another life form has recognized the 'FIDO FACTOR'. Woof woof' Cornwaller
  3. DeanG, Ok, Ok, enough already!!! You are now preaching to the chior....If you will take a chill pill, I will convert!!!!! Cornwaller
  4. I am now officially confused....What is a Cornwall pro version?...and what is the freq. resp. of the Forte? Thanks, Cornwaller
  5. Here's a pair of Lascala's also: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=1946787505&rd=1 Cornwaller
  6. Sorry for the confusion on earlier post...I got too excited!! Here are the other Khorns: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=1947139214&rd=1 Cornwaller
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=1946794811&rd=1 Ooops; only one pair now. the next is a pair of cornwalls. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=1947175131&rd=1 Cornwaller
  8. Hornplayer, I would suggest that you go to the 2 channel forum and post this for HDRbuilder. He is the speaker encloser guru, as far as I know. You might want to post this in odds and mods also. Cornwaller
  9. Lynnm, ..."Who's on first?" I may be too analytical for my own good. I think I have found the answer to all our subwoofer woes: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=1946382344 'ya think? Cornwaller
  10. Good one! Oh yes, the new breed of cutting edge carbon based (bassed) woofers. Part of the new wave 'organic' componentry. What was their impeeeedence again? Cornwaller
  11. DRBILL, I'm sure glad you didn't die in Hope...and I have been waiting for you to 'chime-in' on this one. You raised some points that I truly agree with. Particularly the human ear fundamentals and the sound preception visa vi gestault. You are also quite correct in characterising the unnatural sounds (as I put it engineering whims). But the sounds are there on the track so they must be reproduced--and leave it to the 'other engineers' to do just that. Next time I post after you I'll just write "ditto to what he said"! I do see the need for a sub (sounds as if I'm capitulating) and I have always tried to buy speakers that were 'loaded' for the lower waves since the first Star Wars. What I hate though is leaving a theater with my ears ringing. There is a big difference between reproduction and internal bleeding caused by an assult of DB's. As it seems the masses are trying to emulate the theater experience rather than the sound track. That's my story and I'm stick'n to it, Cornwaller
  12. Colin, Great post. I'm trying to intergrate the placement that PWK wanted for the cornwalls with your formula...maybe there is a happy medium or hybrid to be had from both--he wanted them at least 12 feet apart angled as you said and on the short of the room in the corners. Cornwaller
  13. idunno, I just had a GTREAT BIG LAUGH over your error message! That is so great...if I post my Email address will you send it to me??? The measurements you gave are a tough one! It's too bad you can't fudge a little. I was going to suggest what I consider to be one of the best book-shelve's I've ever heard/owned--but I just measured one and you need 8 3/4" tall and they would have to lay down at that...sorry Oh! they are JBL L1's. Cornwaller
  14. It is so good to see that Santa has been so busy...and so successfull this year. He probably never realized just how much good will and heartfelt sentiment he has left for all of us....and that damn Reindeer sh!t still won't come off my boot...man! what a guy has to put up with just to join in on the merryment. I too have much to give thanks for. The posts in this forum and those of you that author them have given me much. Even though I have only started I have been reading and learning--Thanks guys. Lynn, You might want to check out Ebay. There are two pairs of Khorns listed now. One is walnut, the other is oak. They are both very nice and selling by the original owners. By the way, your wife sounds like a wonderful woman! Does she have a sister? Santa finally flew the coup and I was sure glad to see him go...after I was able to wrestle my new (to me) Khorns from him! Hence the reason for my "stink foot"; I just got a little too close to the exhaust on his sliegh. Merry Christmas to all...and you know the rest... Cornwaller
  15. Santa won't come in!...he's sitting out front jammin' to his new "sliegh-stereo"...God I wish he'd turn it up; cause he's using my new Khorns! Is jt1stav saying that the best way to go is with a good SS amp and a Tube preamp? I hope that is what he's saying because I am going to try it also. Cornwaller
  16. I agree with everything dndphishin said. After all, the speakers are the final link in the analog chain. Once you arrive at your destination then you may look back down the road for a better way around the the bumps and potholes. Cornwaller BTW....I have been corresponding with a guy that is gutting (I think I'm going to cry or take up arms against him)...I said gutting Heresy speakers to rebuild LaScala's!!! He might have a single Heritage of some kind you could buy for your center...but I don't know if anyone should subsidize somebody that would commit such an act--it's a moral question we will have to wrestle with.
  17. I always try to buy myself a gift, at least I am assured of getting something I can use. My favorite was a Linhof 4x5 Super Technika Camera and I still get giddy every time I think about. I am still working on my gift for this year. Cornwaller
  18. Hey Guys! Merry Christmas!! It is very obvious you have all left out Byrl Ives and Jim Nabors, Andy Griffith, Red Skelton, Tiny Tim, Slim Whittman, Roy and Dale,..... My favorites: Johnny Mathis and Bing Crosby Cornwaller
  19. Hello, Your friend is both right and wrong. If life was simple and all variables were linear then he would be correct. However there to many things at work here to make such a cut and dried decision. The circutry in the boxes has a lot to do with it. Inside there are things like a digital signal demodulator and a microprocessor that could be lacking in one and super in the other. The elegance of the circut, the sampling rate and the number of data bits addressed at a time will make a difference also...and all these things will change with a different model be it sony or marantz or rotel or whomever. For example everybody has a tendency to chase larger numbers--"if an 8 bit dac is good then a 16 or 24 would be much better"! Well Bob Carver is of the schoool that nothing is better than a 1 bit dac. The reasoning is that if you sample a 16 bit chunk of data at one time there is more room for error (this is where the microprocessor does it's job) than if you sample one bit at a time. I think he's correct. There is no simple answer as you can see...and don't be so quick to write-off sony. Just about every engineer that has heard their cdrw, I think the model is 660; has said that it has the best dac they have ever heard and this unit can be had for about 700 bucks!! The best you can do is trial and error after you have done some damn good research. Hope this helps, Cornwaller
  20. Malcom, Com'on if I wanted the knowlege of the SVS FAQ I would've started there. I would rather get a 'users' opinion. I never take anything for granted--niether should you. Cornwaller
  21. Jack, ...God and I thought what I was doing and have planned for the future was complex! Considering the holidays and my state of mind at present--I will have to get back to you on this one. Quickly though, the answers (although incomplete): Yes it is possible, Yes you will need a speaker/amp switch if you want individual control for each room and I will get back to you with particular recomendations and suppliers for the specific componentry needed. I am in the middle of designing a system for a 1.2 Mil. facility that must include: multi-media, inside and outside speakers and mics, classroom P.A., remote control for many rooms, etc.,etc....My Brain is a mess. Merry Christmas, Cornwaller
  22. This is intended to be a continuation of a previous thread regarding: 'the larger the driver the lower the sound'--sort of. DRBILL had some very profound things to say and therefore I was compelled to start this new topic. Like all posts this will probably morf into something more because of controversy. ASSUMING WE ALL HAVE KHORNS AND A OPTIMAL SETUP, DO WE NEED A SUBWOOFER FOR HT AND IF SO WHY? Gentlemen...start your engines! Cornwaller
  23. DRBILL, I'm not sure how to do this...so I'll wing it! I want to extend this thread to another topic entitled "Let's talk Subwoofers and the need for them". I will direct your attention and everybody else to this new post. Thanks, Cornwaller
