  1. Hey Glenn... thanks... a couple of reasons actually... 1) I love to look and feel of wood floors 2) Matches my whole home 3) Wood is more durable 4) Easier to maintain esp with the snow which may be dragged in 5) Resale value... buyers here prefer hardwood 6) I could easily do it myself ... 7) If someone REALLY wants carpet, they can put a runner... So I figured why not... material wise (13 steps) the cost isn't significantly more... especially compare to the home's value. Once the varnish ages a little, it'll be a perfect match to the upstairs floors. Obviously #1 had a lot to do with it.... so it may, or may not be everyones choice... ROb
  2. I suppose the replies should be taken in the context of whether or not your preamp will be acting as an audio / video converter or just a switcher / volume adjustment. Source units have different types of outputs... from variable volume analog to pure digital data.... I suppose what signal you are feeding it will determine it's importance in your audio chain? ROb
  3. I had a similar surprise less than a year ago when I walked into my friendly hifi shop and there were a pair of Klipshorns in the McIntosh room! They had recently become a Klipsch dealer and the horns were older ones that actually came from the store owner's home. OTOH... they currently don't have any heritage on display... ROb
  4. Thanks guys…. I'll try and get some updated "overall" pics up this weekend as most of the furniture is in now (chaise lounge arrived this past weekend... []) I'm now looking at refinishing the main khorns, fireplace, and building a mobile furniture unit to house the rear effect Heresy's. The feet?... well... they are actually part of a bigger contemporary art installation consisting of a dozen or so plaster casts of "feet in motion" that was produced by a good friend of mine. Unfortunately the whole work takes up too much space... and hence to two lonely feet. I find horizontal sculptures so much harder to place than vertically oriented ones... Quick eye... ROb
  5. Klipsch does sell replacement parts (as quatities last) as well... so you can give them a call at 1-800-KLIPSCH. Their prices are reasonable but they only sell to people in the US.
  6. Nice... work... what are your plans for the ceiling? I'm sure the joists are good deflectors and it is a man cave... but.... [:#]
  7. My condolences.... my heart goes out to you Steve...
  8. That doesn't sound very comfortable... what ailment was this patient suffering from in the first place, to deserve such treatment?
  9. I have one in my files at home and will post it later...
  10. Even though it's pretty high frequency.... wouldn't that behaviour make it better suited to lower efficiency speakers… where it would be working at higher output levels most of the time?
  11. What causes this? How audible is it? Sounds like something interesting to compare... esp if we hook them up to high efficiency speakers.... ROb
  12. I noticed and I've been curious about these as well. Shawn, i'm also looking forward to hearing more about your measurements and experiments... Wondering how good they "sound"....
  13. An oversized Blanket Weight? [*-)] Given it's features and performance, the XTi's would be amplifier of choice at the moment if i were building another sub....
  14. d@mn.... you seem to have intercepted it before i got them to mail them to my place for an audition as well....[:#]
  15. An important factor IMHO... and i'd say the same goes for the XLS...
  16. I suppose you would if you'd watch it sideways... but the sofa's have felt-sliders under their feet. Although.... when watching a film alone, I have left them in that position and kicked my feet up with a thick pillow between me and the armrest. Actually very comfy... ROb
  17. Yeah... I have an old Rotel Dolby THX preamp that I've used and still got kicking around. The subcrossover is fixed at 80Hz and it simply has a gain control, as was popular back then. It doesn't have a phono stage and obviously requires a separate power amp. Even though it originally cost thousands, I doubt I could even get a 1/10th it's initial value now. Because of it's video and surround obsolescence... that generation of equipment isn't in very high demand. So I figured rather than buying an additional 2ch amp and phono preamp..... I should be able to get a better quality mid-fi all-in-one unit in the same price range. So I was kinda looking for some suggestions of what would sound good from the likes of B&K, McIntosh, Aragon, Parasound, Rotel, etc.... that would fall into that range used (as well as make some small talk... . 18. Everything tore out, and measuring up the steps (the original steps were not all identical in height, and i bugged the crap out of me)...
  19. Thought I'd post a couple of update pictures finally decided to demolish the stair, reframe, and replace the steps. This was the original stair...
