My only concern with the rotation is not knowing the internal wiring configuration / lengths. What is twisting the horn causes wires to cross over each other in an awkward way that might cause problems... not sure just specualting. I will give the vertical configuration a shot and if I notcie a different sound I will switch back to horizontal... thanks to everyone for your feedback.

Ugh... not really interested in messing with that... perhaps I will just leave it horizontol and raise it up off the floor.

I have a pair of RF-83s for mains and an RC-64 center channel. In the standard placement of theater speakers the center channel is placed horizontal due to convienence... Ideally you would have three identical speakers to make up your front sound stage. I am in a position to redo my theater and am going to use an acoustically transparent screen which allow me to place the speakers as I want... (not worried about the look / layout). Is there any issue with taking the RC-64 and setting it up on its end? Will the horn dispersion be affected by being sideways? Anything else I should worry about? Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I kinda figured that would be the case... I guess I will just need to save up and replace with the Reference full size line.

I am very interested in the reference line of Klipsch speakers that are the satillite systems. Mainly the Cinema 10 series. My questions is, would purchasing those be an upgrade from my full size Synergy speaker (floorstanding vs. Satillites) Thanks, Tim

This is exactly what I wanted to hear... There are benefits to each... and drawbacks to each. One is not the true blue, end all be all answer. I was planning on creating a seperate mounting enclosure for the plate amp, and running a long speaker wire to the sub... just wanted to make sure this wouldn't be the wrong thing to do. I am soo pumped. Going out to buy the polyfill after work today... Should be shaking things by end of next week... woo hoo. Tim

That for the advise. I like the thought of having the amp seperate because I can change the amps, sell the sub seperately... or simply hide the amp from site (make the sub look like funiture). I was thinking that having a long signal cable may cause the signal to pick up unwanted noise on the way to the amp... which would then be amplified by the amp and sent to the sub... rather than having the amplified signal be clean and sent over a long speaker wire run. I guess I was look for more of a signal / electrical engineer, to tell me what would be better. If it is about the same either way, then I guess I will just do what I think looks the best 1. Sounds Quality ALWAYS FIRST 2. Looks / Coolness factor SECOND

I am building the 15" Tempest in the Adire Alignment box to replace my current 15" Cerwin Vega sub (I know... I was young and dumb). I have a quick question. I have finished the rough building of the box, have the sub and ports on order, and picked up the plate amp yesterday (turns out P.E. is only about 15 minutes away from me) Now for the question. My sub is located across the room from my Receiver. I have the sub cable (RCA) run under the floor all the way across the room. I have two options. Place the plate amp near the sub, and have a long run of RCA to get the signal to the amp, with a short speaker wire run... OR place the plate amp near the reciever, have a short signal run, and then run a long speaker wire run to the sub (across the room). Which is better? I am sooo excited to get this done... I can't wait to see what it sounds like. If anyone has first hand experience and can share what I can expect, please do. Also, if anyone knows were I can get gloss black (piano finish) laminate... let me know. Thanks for your help. Tim

I am thinking about getting the Adire amp.... just so I know that it is perfectly mated for the sub... and it is only 25 more dollars. I am getting soo excited, think I might start building the box this weekend. woo hoo...

Frankie... When is comes to the plate amp... could I just use the one from my CW LW-15? Specs are below... Or would I be better off getting the amp from Parts Express? Again I don't want to be cheap on the amp... but I also don't want to buy one that isn't going to be any better than this one. Frankie, Thanks a bunch for the information... you talked me into trying this. Here is the plan. Tempest Sub 15" 250 Watt plate amp, from Parts Express. (Is this a good choice, don't want to skimp out on the amp) Build the Adire enclosure that is good for both music and HT. Frankie, With this vented Adire... I just follow what the PDF is telling me... that is it... right...? AFter that I should have a sub that performs amazingly? I am pretty good with wood working... just not picking out components... I will do further research into this... any more information you can provide would be great!!! Have you built one of these? Would like to get first hand feedback... as to the sound this would create. Is it fast and clean bass... or really boomy, like the 15 I have now? Thanks for the info.

I have contacted SVS to see what sub they think (of thiers) would best suit my needs. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Any other suggestions besides Klipsch and SVS that would have a great sub for under ~600.

Hey all, I am looking to get a new sub for my home theater, to replace my Cerwin Vega LW-15... I know I know... should have never bought it in the first place. I am currently considering the KSW 12... or the RW 10... My main issue, is I am on a budget... looking to spend around 600... What are your feelings on the two? Any other suggestions for different subs I should look at. I have a full Synergy set-up... (can't afford Reference yet)... Just need something that is smooth and clean, will be using for both movies and music. Thanks for any help you guys can provide. Tim

First off... I want to thank everyone for their input... I have been researching this alot... and it sounds like a great thing... however I am still having trouble rationalizing 300-600 on a tune up for the TV... I wish I could see the difference side by side before I took the plunge... Thanks again for everyone's opinion.

Quick question. I have a Mitsubishi 48" RPTV... and I have been researching something called ISF Calibration. Is this worth it? I heard that it makes the picture quality amazing... but it is als0 ~300. How often would I have to have it calibrated? Just trying to get some understanding of the effect, how long it lasts, and if it worth the money. I did some research on the net, but all I found was sites of people that do it. Of course they are going to say it is wonderful. Also realize that 300 isn't cheap for me... Thanks for any opinions / advice. Tim

I think that the Matrix has some great scenes... and the final explosion scene in Fight Club. Those are the types of movies you can watch with your eyes closed and still understand and feel what is going on.

Regardless of bumped heads, and smashed fingers, taking off of work to play with stuff you love... nothing beats it. Besides it's not considered a project unless you draw blood. I don't want to rain on a parade but I don't think that'll work. I had the same problem. When I first got my Toshiba DVD at the birth of the format(almost $600 back in 1998) it was DTS compatible but my Yamaha receiver wasn't. I believe that DTS compatible and DTS decoder built in a DVD player are 2 completely different things. The DTS built in Decoder should work on a DTS ready receiver (much like HDTV tuner and HDTV ready set). You are send the signal already split out and the reciever is just distributing and amplifying. does this make sense? It makes sense in my head, just not sure it I put into words properly.

From my understanding, there will be 2 reference series (upper and lower) and the synergy series are going to BestBuy... I allow heard that they will not be called Klipsch per say... they will be "Synergy by Klipsch" or something like that. Just some info I heard.

Obviously everyone has there own favorites... and most will defend the choice they made. I bought the Integra DTR 5.3 (6.1 DD/DTS, Etc.) and I love it. It has everything I wanted, on-screen diplay HD signal component video switching, everything, and the sound to me is amazing for the price. it is only 80 watts per channel, but hey, we're using Klipsch speakers... so 50 watts of power would make these scream. Best thing, the reciever was only 650. I am not made of money... so that is A LOT of money to me to spend on a piece of electronic equipement, but not once have I regretted the purchase!
