  1. We've had comcast cable internet for about 2 years and it's been great. Virtually never down (at least for the past year) and extremely fast. If you can afford it and it's available in your area it's the way to go (IMHO). I was appraoched by an old "red" pickup about 10 years ago in a parking lot by a guy with Circuit City tv/vcr sized boxes taped up with customer names written on them for pickup. Out of curiosity I asked to see one. He let me take just enough tape off to see it was a discarded old black & white tv with a broken antena. Got the plate, called the cops and don't know what happened after that. Good job Justin.
  2. Proj - There are nicer ways to tell someone to pluck off.
  3. MOIT - If you live near Baltimore, there have been more than a couple pairs within driving distance over the past month or so. I almost bought one of them. Keep looking on this forum and on ebay. You'll find yours soon enough.
  4. I'm using an old Kenwood KR9600. It was recently checked out, cleaned, lubricated, etc. which doesn't neccessarily mean it can't have a problem with the phono stage although everything tested OK.
  5. When I first throw an LP on the TT it takes about 1 minute for the sound in the right channel to catch up with the sound in the left channel. I have a Technics SL1800 with a 25+ year old Stanton 681EEE. Once that minute or so is up everything seems to be OK. It sort of sounds muted and dull for that 1st minute though. Any thoughts?
  6. Are you close enough to pick them up? If so, you should go listen to them. Cornwalls can sound good to someone even with a blown tweeter. If not, you will also have to take shipping costs into account. You need to be willing to put a nice finish on them if that is important to you (sanding, staining, etc.). I don't know the availability of grills either. I would assume you could find one eventually. I guess it depends on how low they stay. Remember, you can usually find a good pair with a good finish or veneer and both grills for between $700 - $900 in your area if you are patient enough to wait a little while.
  7. Always play something that you are intimately familiar with and is a great recording (it's nice to start out with good recordings). I have different selections for CDs vs LPs. On CD I play Chris Rhea's "Texas" from the "Road to Hell" CD. Great vocals and good bass thump. Then I go to something acoustic like "Grateful Dawg" studio version on the "Grateful Dawg" motion picture soundtrack. On LP, something like Jethro Tull "Thick as a Brick" which has about every kind of instrument in a rock album you can find. Those are just some of my preferences. I'm sure you have your favorites.
  8. Cherry is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Don't do it.
  9. You'll love your cornwalls!!! Post after your first impressions.
  10. Not quite the khorn depth, but heart-pounding non-the-less! Cornwalls were designed with bass in mind and probably do better with SS than Belles, Scalas or Khorns (IMHO that is).
  11. m00n - You should take a listen to the cws just for the fun of it. Not one person I have demo'd them for in the 23 years I've owned mine hasn't sat there, slack-jawed, saying "WOW, AMAZING, WHERE CAN I GET A PAIR OF THOSE," etc. That's with lots of raw SS power running through them. Granted, these weren't khorn owners, but.....
  12. What do you mean cornwalls are not "Official Heritage Speakers?" They are as heritage as heritage gets!!
  13. I just have a couple hundred but my brother-in-law is a collector with over 10,000. A good friend who used to be a DJ for WHFS in the late 70s (and others) also has close to 10k and the great thing is I have open access to both of their entire collections!
  14. Moon - I've been following your saga from a distance and I'm sorry things didn't work out. I'm really impressed with the progress of your theatre. It's going to be amazing when completed! Have you ever considered buying a pair of cornwalls? You'd have about a grand left over after selling the belles and your need for bass may be a little more fulfilled (maybe a lot more). Anyway, best of luck in whatever you do. You make for great reading and we're all pulling for you.
  15. Middlecreek - I was trying to figure out a way to express what you so eloquintly said. I came on this site for help not long ago but found it was not another boring, run of the mill audio site and I've enjoyed it ever since. We all have one thing in common, the love of Klipsch speakers, which differentiates this site from most others. As long as topics are stimulating and people remain courteous to one another, I for one don't mind getting off the audio topic to share other thoughts on occasion.
  16. RSW 15 for under $1200. It may be worth the risk.
  17. I agree with cornwalls! They will give you the most immediate gratification and they are fairly plentiful. You can usually find a pair within driving distance if you look hard enough and are willing to be a little patient.
  18. It sure sounded better than the jensen triaxles, even laying sideways!!
  19. I have to agree with you Indy. Craig's been a great help to me also and he doesn't laugh at me when I ask him really stupid questions.
  20. Howdy Sam - Another easy way to test them is hook them up to your car stereo (just make a connection with your existing speaker connects - you don't even have to disconnect your car speakers). They're very efficient and you'll be able to tell with just about any source. When I moved mine to college back in 1980, I hooked them up in my old Dodge Tradesman Van and they sounded great!
  21. BTW - Thanks for your compliments. I appreciate them all very much.
  22. They're in the basement because we are currently remodeling. They normally reside in the upstairs family room as the front speakers for my HT and my 2-channel speakers using a switchbox I recently recommended on another thread (niles dps-1). I used to list all that stuff in my signature but it was too long and repetetive. I am the original owner. Bought them from Myer-Emco in July 1980. They were the only cornwalls in the store and I had to have them.
  23. Looks pretty darn close, doesn't it? HDBR Andy swears they're different. The grain in mine seems to have slightly straighter lines but that could just be a particular batch of veneer. I like em both. Do yours look as different in the pics as mine do compared to in person? The most realistic views are the zoom-ins.
  24. Congrats Bill. You had to rub it in!! I had my eye on that one too. Let us know how things turn out. Hopefully we'll be able to compare notes soon.
  25. My cornwall boxes lasted almost 20yrs and over 10 moves before they finally disinegrated. My guess is someone out there has some khorn packaging that is in good shape. Whether or not they want to part with them is a different issue. Hard to find anything else that fits em.
