  1. Hello! Dragonfyr don't be so hasty. Mayhaps there is more than appears at the surface here. I truly enjoy your thoughts and insight. Not that I pretend to understand them, hence the injuneer in my last post. That was in jest and not making fun of you, hell, I can't keep up with your ideas, yet. You do, in my modest opinion need to relax. Yes, we are old, fat, and eating our soup in our recliners. Tubes glowing, cat in our lap, dog farting at our feet. What could be better? There is plenty of room for everyone here. If you take a little time I'm sure you'll see that we're not all that bad. This is not an engineering site but a group of people who are into music and mostly music played with Klipsch speakers. If you want to discuss your ideas with us try to be a little easier on the uneducated ones. (ME) Altho there are some here that are educated in the fields you speak of. Hope to see you around here. This statement is mine and mine only, get off it you buggers. Randy

I'm biased because mine sounds so fine. There are plenty of choices out there and I looked for a good while and couldn't be happier. By the way, what year and model sportster do you own? Randy
  3. Nice pic's, thanks for the reviews. What part of the world are you guys in? Oh yeah, duh, east coast.lol
  4. Bill, If you haven't had your C-26 looked at for awhile maybe you should think about taking it in to your tech's and have them clean that up also. I don't believe that you could improve what you have by any appreciable margin unless you spend alot of money and maybe not then. Your components would be the envy of some, they're built like tanks and in my opinion sound great. Thirty years and still going, that is great. Take care and have fun with them, Randy
  5. They are really something to look at, wonder how well they are built? Anybody heard these? Randy
  6. If you have not cleaned your interconnects and speakerwire ends in a while that would be the first thing I'd do. Some Caig deoxit is good to use on the ends with a little elbow grease. Those greenie pads are handy to get down to the metal. They do get corroded over time. Check for the speakers being out of phase also. You might not notice this with background music but with critical listening you probably would. Good luck, Randy
  7. I for one think this is interesting. Not being an able bodied INJUNEER doesn't stop me from learning. Or maybe it does. Still good stuff even if dragonfyr has come off a little brusque. Sorry dragon dude, you did start off heavy. LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE! Randy
  8. Not intending to begin a flame war here, but I disagree with your take on this. I don't believe Mark inferred any specific reference to a $2000 preamp. Nor do I belive there was any mention at all of his own products. I think Mark was sincerely trying to help and offer an honest and well educated opinion to him. No more, no less. I certainly didn't think he was trying to push one of his preamps on him. I simply understood Mark to imply that a system in the $2000 range, be it an integrated, seperates, tube player with gain control, preamp, etc. would be expected to out preform $500 worth of the same type of gear. Sure there are the exceptions as with most things in life. I have heard the ST-70 and while it does sound nice, there is no way that is compares to some of the more expensive tube set ups. I am sure most here would agree that a pair of stock MC-30's would likely sound better than a stock ST-70 using the same preamp? Maybe I am way off base here, but that's my two cents. And please keep in mind this is only MHO. ---------------- I second the emotion! Only because I'm not sure how to spell concur! Sorry Aretha, Randy
  9. OK,enough of the heavy. Now what if anything does anyone have anything to say about coax interconnects? Shi*te. Have heard a lot of good things about them and not a lot of bad. Grasshopper out!

(However, don't forget to connect the feedback resistor to the yellow (16 ohm) wire of the OPT on your MKIII.) You can't leave the yellow wire dangling. You can also use a simple switch on the back to switch the desired tap to the binding post. A small 3-pos rotary switch works well. Mouser #: 105-SR10010-23NS will work fine, and costs $4.75, although you must be careful soldering to the small pins. Takes up almost no room and will mount easily in the back. Other, larger klutzy wafer types are also available, but the diameter is often close the the vertical space under the chassis making them harder to install. On MKIII you will discover that the usual $2.95 dual plastic binding post will mount EXACTLY in the rectangular hole left by removing the screw terminal strip. However, unless very tight, it will slide <----> back and forth. mdeneen ---------------- When I rebuilt my MK-II's I used these from Parts Express, can't remember the actual numbers but they were reasonably priced and work well. Randy
  11. Chris, what side of this fine line are you on or should we ask your wife? There are plenty of choices but what is your price range? Used is fun but brand new is good too. I've built a hafler solid state amplifier and modded a pair of Dynaco MK-II's. Trust me if I can do it so can you. I'd spend some time looking around first before buying anything. You may end up finding something at a yard sale or something that you could purchase and try out for cheap while you are deciding what to spend any real money on. Just a thought. Randy
  12. Al.Sure I'll trade my MC's for Crowns,,,,Not! Just having a little fun with you. There are alot of people that use coax for interconnects here. I think that with the lengths that are usually run you don't have to worry about the high frequency loss. I'm sure someone with more technical knowledge will chime in here. I've been thinking about doing some home brew coax's myself. Randy edit: misspelled word
  13. Wow, what an incredable site, thanks for the link dragonfyr.
  14. Thanks fellows. I'm running old tubes in there now. Was just browsing at ebay for russian 5U4's and will now go back and look for NOS from wherever. Randy
  15. What is the consensus on the chinese made rectifiers. Had one arc out last night on one of my mac amps. They aren't that old and haven't had alot of hours on them, maybe 400 or so. Installed some tung-sols and sylvanias and put the rubies in the trash.
  16. Go ahead and fix up the Heathkit,I'm sure it will be a fun thing to do. IMO I would not go to a SS power supply in your old kit, instead just beef the old supply up and put in new capacitors and resistors. The circuits were not made to handle the instant startup of SS rectification. Randy
  17. Young sir, I wish I had the knowledge to answer any of your questions but I don't so the only help I can give is bumping this to the top!
  18. Some very good basic info there. Thanks Al. Listening to the MK-II's right now as one of the Mac's has blown a fuse. Wish I had a SS amp to use, I'm sick of these glass monsters. Too much heat and distortion. Anyone want these amps? Trade for a good SS sony or something,Randy
  19. Sunnysal that horn thingie is really strange, makes me dizzy
  20. Pixpop, I don't believe you can go wrong with the newer ones. Hopefully you can find a pair close to you so you can check them out before buying. Does anyone here have a pair in good shape that they're thinking about selling? Randy

  22. I can't help but the Borg can. randy
  23. We're forgeting the Questions. 1)I don't know if the old or new are better, sorry never listened to either. 2)I dont believe the newer front loaded speakers would be any harder to modify or work on as you just have to pull the woofer and reach right in there. 3)You've already picked an amp so that is not a problem. 4)I don't think you can go wrong with either one. If you want you can always sell the one you bought and buy the other, or if you're like a bunch of these knuckleheads in here you can have a set of all the models k ever made 5)Yes, I believe they made the speaker with both the 10" and 12" woofer.
