Recently bought a "Cinema 800" sound bar (https://www.klipsch.com/uk/products/cinema-800-sound-bar) and after a month or so I've encountered few "annoying bugs". would like to know if some of you encountered similar bugs and if (or how) they've been fixed: The system get “stuck” - unless I take it out of power and reconnect.* *The Sub is not connecting. *Weird noises sound sometimes. *Difficulty connecting Bluetooth. *Some of those bugs appear after “casting” music or video to the TV. My configuration is: Cinema 800 to TV (New LG 55”) Via ARC HDMI, connected to WIFI internet (Fiber). Sometime tv remote, sometime Klipsch remote or other… Still under warranty, brought to the Lab, said they’ve updated the firmware with same apparent issues after reconnect at home! I’ve also got a dead cinema 1200 - The power supply looks just like the cinema 700/800 power supplies. I don’t have any bulging caps or any visual damage to mine but I got no power and no leds whatsoever. I’d really love to find a replacement power supply, but I’ve had zero luck finding much of anything online at all. I can’t even find a used power supply anywhere…. Hoping someone finds a replacement power supply so I can fix this thing…

Hi WeakEars, The blue capacitor is for EMC filtering and doesn't affect the function nor the sound quality of the speakers. Since the same power supply board is used in various models (Bar48, Cinema 600/800 etc), there is going to be slight variance in the components they used on each model, depending on the EMC compliance result.
-
I also experience this with my 2 Cinema 800 units. Quite annoying to have to unplug the soundbar every time this occurs. I don't have any surround speakers in the mix. I'm running a Bravia XR75X90K. I estimate it occurs once in every 15-20 power on cycles. Klipsh support ended up sending me a replacement after some basic troubleshooting didn't solve the problem. We finished our basement recently and bought the same model tv we have upstairs for the basement. The same intermittent squealing on power on also occurs with the replacement soundbar. Is it a Sony issue or Klipsch issue? Frustrating. Hesistant to purchase Klipsch audio going forward.

Hi @SteadyDropsofWater , glad that my solution works for you. Yes, kind of funny how this thread has evolved from Bar 48 to Cinema 800. 😄 Cheers!

Update: Matt/all this worked for me! - Got the supplies in, cracked open the back and replaced those capacitors. I know next to nothing about electronics, but armed with some audacity, and this board, I was able to use 10.00 solder and ongtw75 valuable post with regard to which capacitors to shop for to (I believe fix) my Cinema 800. Cable routing to get the back on was a little wierd, but I was able to push them down and finagle them. Note of caution I'd mention to guys trying this - be careful you don't pull that white flat data cable out of the slots on the other board trying to get the wires back in the box, I noticed I did that, and had to push it back in. No biggie, but I could see how someone could screw that up easy as I almost did. ongtw75, special note to you - I sat with this problem for awhile without seeing my own specific issue, but imagine finding your post about Cinema 800, in a discussion about the Cinema 600, on a board that was initially about the Bar 48 power issue. I was about to buy the other power suppy board just to try, but your details about my own situation caused me to look at my own broken unit. Thanks so much everyone

Ordered a couple of capacitors with your link there, thanks so much. Cinema 800 died - loved finding the information in this thread. Thanks to all! If I can fix this one, will end up with 2, which would be kind of cool. Will now learn how to solder lol

So, finally someone with the Cinema 800 requested my help to fix his. Just like everyone's 600/700/800/1200, the soundbar was dead, no power, no lights whatsoever. As you can see from the photos below, the 800 has the same power supply board as the 700 and 1200 (at least visually). Most interesting that I saw the same bulged capacitor as in Skunk's. I do have some spare capacitors that will fit within the footprint.... replaced them and problem solved! 😁 New capacitors: United Chemi-Con KZJ low ESR series, 1000uF 16V To replace at C5 and C28 Alternative: https://www.digikey.com/short/bf43j7p0 https://mou.sr/3XB8SyT When the old capacitors are desoldered, do try to remove as much glue as you can below them as that will aid in cooling for the new capacitors. When the power board is working, VCC will be 5.2V. STB will go from 0V to 2.8V when the soundbar is powered on. It is an enable signal to turn on the high voltage circuit (2 prong plug) and that in turn will give 24.5V. In many ways, the 800 power board is very similar to the Bar48 and Cinema 600 boards. I didn't measure the current consumption of it, but looking at the 5V regulator chip (FT8370C) specifications, it is capable of 5V 3A. So a replacement board from Amazon/Aliexpress ought to have 5V/3A and 24V/4A dual output. Hope the above info is helpful.

Tim 1 - Welcome to the joys of owning these Klipsch Cinema sound bars! Bad power supplies! I am guessing that you can't use the same Power Supply for the 1200 as was used here on the Bar 48. The PS for the Bar 48 was the same as used in the 600. My 800 has a different Power supply and I have not found one like it for sale anywhere. If my 800 is different (its bigger and powers the LED indicators) than it makes since that it is also different. Can you take a picture of it?

This is a bit off topic but... The workaround to resolve loss of audio on the Cinema soundbars has been to power cycle them either by removing to power plug from the electrical outlet or removing the power cable from the soundbar itself. Klipsch did provide a better workaround but I can no longer locate the support document. All I can say is I have used it and it does work on my Cinema 800. On the soundbar, hold down the volume down (-) button and the power button together for about fifteen seconds until the soundbar restarts. This usually will restore the loss of audio without having to power cycle the soundbar.

Hi Skunkworks, I don't own a 700 or 800 but have fixed the power boards of Bar48 and Cinema 600 a couple of times, and they all suffered the same capacitor failure. The photo that you've attached seems to show the same capacitor failure (red box), with the top of the capacitor bulging. That's not a good sign. You may change them to see if that's the cause of the problem. Do get some capacitors of the same rating and of low ESR (equivalent series resistance) specification. I have good experience with those from NCC KZE series. The 5 and 2 prong plugs are very similar to the 600. With a multimeter, VCC should measure at least 5V wrt GND. There won't be any voltage at the 2 prong until the soundbar has powered up. The microcontroller chip at the amplifier board side will signal the STB pin 'high' (>2.5V), only then will the main power circuit be turned on. For the 600, the 2 prong plug measures 24V. Hope this is useful.

Hi @Matt in LA I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. While this is the Cinema 800 thread, most of the community members having experience with BAR Series and Cinema Series power supplies post to the Bar 48 No-Power Repair Thread where I know you have been active. I hope you find a solution.

This dang site keeps clearing my posts when it wants me to log in so I'll try to summarize what I already wrote... I'm noticing some key differences between the Bar48's power module and the ones used in the Cinema 700 and 800, which I'm assuming are basically the same. On the 5-prong connection on the 700's module the connections are labeled GND-GND-VCC-VCC-STB, whereas the other posts about the BAR48 power module have VDD instead of VCC (Vtage at the Common Connector). Can you confirm those are the same on yours? Found this about differences between VCC/VDD: https://www.allinthedifference.com/difference-between-vdd-and-vcc/ Note the differences between MOSFETs and BJTs (bipolar junction transistors). So I need to gather some more info about how these work differently with the Cinema 700/800 power modules before I start making connections. But @Matt in LA, if you do decide to call it quits I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind sending me your power module as it could come in handy with fixing mine. I'm willing to pay for the shipping of course. So yeah, I'm hesitant to start cutting wires until I'm sure that replacing individual transistors is not the better route. Still learning.

I'm pretty much on the same page as you @Matt in LA I'm working on my Cinema 700, which has about the same wattage as the Cinema 800 (800W vs 860W). Here's how the spec sheets compare, although I don't know if it's enough power/electrical information to figure out which power supply to use. Thought about trying to replace some capacitors but without a bit more electrical knowledge and/or testing all of them I don't feel confident to go that route and I'm not super great at soldering. A few of them just look leaky so I might as well just swap the module. I've been thinking that the higher wattage bumps it up to the next level module compared to what people have been using for the Bar 48 or Cinema 600 (600W) I ordered this one: https://a.co/d/9F2tWwk but I don't think it's going to work since it's not a dual switch module. So I'm back to thinking I will need a different/higher power board based on the increased wattage. Essentially, still scratching my head. Used this converter a few times trying to figure things out: https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/watts-to-amps-calculator/

Hi @MarkSAZ, Welcome to the Klipsch Community forums. I assume you have a Cinema 800 as you are posting in this forum... As with most Cinema soundbar models the volume, when using Direct mode, is substantially reduced. Try Standard mode and see if it helps. Verify that your Cinema 800 has the latest firmware installed: Cinema 700/800 - Current Firmware Update Notes. If your audio/video source is not the TV itself, try connecting the devices to the soundbar rather than the TV. Check these Cinema 800 knowledgebase articles for more help.

There isn’t any sound coming from my Cinema 800. I’ve unplugged, done system reset. Nothing seems to work until I reload the firmware. I’m using the latest firmware download. The sound keeps dropping out every 3rd or 4th time I turn the system on. Really getting tired of this issue. Anyone know of a fix for this issue.

I just purchased the Cinema 800 with surround 3s and they sound amazing. Then checked the firmware and everything is updated. It's only been a week. I hope I don't regret the purchase but good to know the Onkyo partnership has made their electronics reliable. Good comments on this forum. Glad to have joined. -
Thank all you guys for your genius knowledge. I am an untrained novice...a messy solderer at that! And thanks to you all, I got my amazon power supply in to my Cinema 600 and it's working (for the moment....)!!! Since they gave me an 800 (It sounds a bit better and more options for connecting the sub), I am hoping the 600 keeps working and I can give it to my friend for his new place! Did you see Klipsch has come out with a whole new line of soundbars and is sunsetting these? They are made with Onkyo. I hope they have better luck. I experienced good customer service.

After my second BAR 48 died, Klipsch gave me a Cinema 600. It had just become available. Unfortunately, it only lasted a few months. I was then given a Cinema 800. Search these community forums for "Cinema 800" to learn more. Both the Cinema 800 & 1200 have reliability issues too but far fewer than the BAR 48 and the Cinema 600 do. Early firmware updates were a disaster but the latest ones are stable. You should be quite happy with your Cinema 800. I am. 🙂

You might want to sit down before you read this: I contacted Klipsch and let them know that I had seen this was an on-going fairly common problem and wondered if they were covering it with an extended warranty. THEY ARE REPLACING MY CINEMA 600 WITH AN 800!!! They no longer make the 600 so they are replacing it with the 800. I'm so gobsmacked, I'm telling myself that I'll believe it when it shows up (in 5-10 business days). I'm wondering if I am delusional when I read the e-mail and receipt for it! That was a short shelf life for the 600 so my guess is they quit making them because of the power supply problem. This problem has to be costing Klipsch a lot. Not to be ungrateful but I hope the 800 has a more robust PS. At least, now I'm ready. If it has the same power supply, when it goes, I have the one I just got from Amazon! LOL! (and bonus: Now I know I need a set or Torx drivers!) Thank you Klipsch!

Cinema 1200 does not allow 4k 60z series x
KevinB replied to audiophile18's topic in General Klipsch Info
I don't believe that ARC/eARC is your issue. I have an older Samsung TV that does not have eARC. My Cinema 800 is connected to the TV's HDMI/ARC input and I have full 4K60Hz video. You could have an issue with your TV's HDMI/ARC input. That is why I said: If you used a different HDMI input on your TV when you did your tests, you did not eliminate the TV's HDMI/ARC input as the problem, which has nothing to do with ARC per se. Very true but ARC/eARC is not used for video. The Cinema Series soundbar articles mention eARC because it has the bandwidth required to provide all the audio formats the Cinema 1200 supports as described in Cinema 1200 - Decoding and Playback Modes but that article is a bit misleading. HDMI/ARC has the bandwidth to support a Dolby Digital Plus audio stream which provides higher quality audio (CD quality) when compared to Dolby Digital. Furthermore, Dolby Digital Plus does support Dolby Atmos, albeit at a lower audio quality. Since the Cinema Series soundbars do support Dolby Digital Plus we can listen to Dolby Atmos content via an HDMI/ARC connection as long as the TV can provide it. -
Cinema 1200 does not allow 4k 60z series x
KevinB replied to audiophile18's topic in General Klipsch Info
Okay, you have confirmed your HDMI cables are good and everything works when the soundbar is out of the equation. Assuming you used the HDMI connection on the TV that the soundbar connects to, that just leaves the soundbar itself. If your soundbar is defective, and still within the warranty period, Klipsch will provide a warranty replacement but they will want evidence of a defect. The results of your tests should provide that evidence. Cinema 700/800/1200 Video Passthrough Capabilities states that the soundbar supports 4k60 passthrough at Chroma 4:4:4. That should be enough to confirm there is an issue with your soundbar. You may be able to learn a bit more if you can determine whether your soundbar can pass through 4k30 passthrough at Chroma 4:4:4 or 4k60 passthrough at Chroma 4:4:2. Either way, you should open a case with Klipsch Product Support and begin a dialog with them. -

This article has the information you are looking for: Cinema 700/800/1200 Video Passthrough Capabilities The Audio Return Channel (ARC/eARC) is used to pass audio streams to the soundbar when the audio originates from the TV, the TV's external inputs, or any internal apps the TV may have. When the program material originates from the soundbar, as is the case when the source is the soundbar's HDMI1 or HDMI2 inputs, the connection at the TV behaves as a regular HDMI port. The most likely cause your soundbar won't pass through 4k, assuming your TV does support 4K video, is your HDMI cable. All HDMI cables definitely are not created equal. I strongly recommend you use a certified HDMI cable. Considering the small difference in price, I would go with The Ultra High Speed HDMI® Cable. Thanks to the Ultra High Speed HDMI® Cable Certification Program, you can now be sure you are getting a genuine certified cable.
