Daddy Dee
I've got a Dell laptop which I'd like to reformat HDD and reload the system. It came with Vista Home Prem. and I've got the OEM CD's to reload the system. Haven't done it yet because my Product Key "may" be required. Problem is that the sticker on the bottom of the laptop is now unreadable. Is there a way I can find my own product key on my system? I've done some google search on this with no help found. Any help appreciated.
Daddy Dee
OK was able to answer my own question. There are apparently several key finder programs out there. I used Jellybean keyfinder with success.
JJkizak
All you have to do is click on "System". JJK
toddvj
Besides, I'm pretty sure if you are using the OEM restore discs, it won't ask you.
Daddy Dee
JJ and Todd, Thanks. That's easy enough.
Marvel
All you have to do is click on "System". JJK That is the product id and not the product key. And it is true that you don't need it to use the restore disks. In fact, using the restore disks may put in a different product key. Dell's restore disks will work on any of the Dell PCs. A friend of mine gave me a 2 Ghz Dell, but it had no hard drive or disks with it. I mounted the motherboard in a full size chassis/case, and used a restore disk from a PC at work (we have an MS license agreement for the whole campus and don't use the software as delivered). It installed just fine.
jerohm
http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ It reports the CORRECT value from my XPro Retail install, but a different value from my Sony VAIO XP Home (OEM install) ...
