serjan
Has anyone had any experience with the ALK Engineering upgrade for the Klipsch "A series" balancing network found in Klipschorn, La Scala and Belle Klipsch? I have a pair of 10 year old La Scalas and wondered if this upgrade would be just that. An upgrade! Thank you in advance for any suggestions, recomomdations or feedback. mobile homeless
Do a search in the Archives.... there is enough discussion on ye olde ALK crossovers to keep your eyes spinning for days. Many, if not most, are very happy with the ALKs. Some prefer the original oil cap model for the natural sound and added warmth. kh ------------------ Phono Linn LP-12 Vahalla / Linn Basic Plus / Sumiko Blue Point CD Player Rega Planet Preamp Cary Audio SLP-70 w/Phono Modified Amplifier Welborne Labs 2A3 Moondog Monoblocks Cable DIYCable Superlative / Twisted Cross Connect Speaker 1977 Klipsch Cornwall I w/Alnico & Type B Crossover system one online / alternate components / Asylum Listing f>s>
Hardhead
For natural sound and added warmth, the ALK crossover is far superior to oil caps. The difference in clarity is astounding, and they are very musical. I have heard the difference, and it is significant. You don't have to take my word for it, though, or anyone else's, for that matter. Al will give you a money-back guarantee; if you don't like them, send them back. Don't count on sending them back, though.
Chris Robinson
I've got ALK networks on my two Cornwalls, one Belle, and two Klipschorns. My oldest daughter won't get braces, but they sure sound great! (just kidding, folks). Seriously, they really are something tangible. I second Hardhead's comments wholeheartedly. ------------------ If you don't like what is coming out, you wouldn't like what is going in." -PWK- --------------------- TWO-CHANNEL SYSTEM AES AE-25 "Superamp" AES AE-3 Pre-amp New Tube 4000 CD Player 1976 Klipschorns (ALK'ed) HOME THEATER Klipsch 1968 ALK Cornwall "II"s (LF/RF) ALK Belle Klipsch (Center) Klipsch Heresy (RR/LR) Klipsch KSW-12 sub Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Cornwalls) Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Heresy's) Denon AVR-4800 Toshiba SD-3109 DVD
mike stehr
Methinks somebody is going to have a retort to this.
JohnA
The comments about Al's networks on his web site mostly came from this forum. I have a pair and love 'em. John

edster00
I'll pipe in here and add to the praise of Al's networks. I "only" have 1 pair that I had put in my Belle's first, then moved them to my Khorns. I am quite pleased with their performance! ------------------ 2 Channel System: '78 Khorns w/ALK networks Welborne Labs Moondog 2A3 amps AES AE-3 Superpreamp DJH mods McIntosh MCD 7007 CD McIntosh MR-78 Tuner DIYCable Twisted Cross Connects DIYCable Superlatives (preamp/amp) DH Labs Silver Pulse interconnects (sources/preamp) f> s>
Dave in Nashville
Serjan: I have a pair of ALK crossovers in my '77 LaScalas. For the money, I believe they're the best addition/modification I could have made to my system. After people listen to my speakers, I swivel one of them around and point to the crossover. "That's why they sound so good!" 'nuf said. Dave in Nashville
serjan
Thank you all for your positive feedback. Now that I have heard all the wonderful advantages the ALK "A series" upgrades have done for your Klipschs, has anyone experienced anything less? Is there anything else I should be addressing or other speaker upgrades that I should know about?
Chris Robinson
Serjan, as far as experiencing anything less, I think the answer is "rhetorical" in the sense that "before upgrades, everything is less." What I mean with due respect is that we're working with great Klipsch products that have aged some, and the solutions available now really move the line of scrimmage downfield a piece. Other than the ALK's and having all drivers functioning, I'd say you're "good to go!" ------------------ If you don't like what is coming out, you wouldn't like what is going in." -PWK- --------------------- TWO-CHANNEL SYSTEM AES AE-25 "Superamp" AES AE-3 Pre-amp New Tube 4000 CD Player 1976 Klipschorns (ALK'ed) HOME THEATER Klipsch 1968 ALK Cornwall "II"s (LF/RF) ALK Belle Klipsch (Center) Klipsch Heresy (RR/LR) Klipsch KSW-12 sub Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Cornwalls) Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Heresy's) Denon AVR-4800 Toshiba SD-3109 DVD
