derik
I'm searching for a good high quality 5 disc changer for cd's, not dvd's. Any suggestions? Thanks.
discorules
I have a Kenwood CD-406 that wholeheartedly recommend.
soundog
My SONY CE775 SACD changer is a great buy. Takes a little time to "burn in" (something I didn't beleive in until the 775) .... Read posts on Audio Asylum BB ... search in HiRez Forum for a member's review and assorted comments....other cd players are discussed there, too. http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hirez/bbs.html ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
derik
How much were those cd players? Thanks for the suggestions.
soundog
The CE775 lists for $399. but I got mine for about $300. which I consider a great buy since the quality is very good IMHO. I read somewhere that they have a romotion now where you get 5 or 6 SACDs with it free. Sure seems like Sony is going all out to make SACDs a sucess. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
derik
i was looking at sacd's the other day at best buy and it seemed like there were only about 15-20 out. Was that just a poor selection or are sacd's just that new?
discorules
The CD-406 is strictly a 5 disc cd player. I got mine for $150. It has cd text reading capability and digital outputs.
Ray Garrison
derik, I just did a quick search on Amazon and there are about a hundred SACD's listed under "popular music" and another large batch under "classical" music. Remember how long it took for CD's to come out? When I bought my first CD player in '84, there were only about 10 CD's available. It took a LONG time before there were a 100 titles. ------------------ Music is art Audio is engineering Ray's Music System
jhawk92
derik- I'm a big Denon fan. I have an old (about 9yrs) DCM-440 5-disc changer that I really like. From checking out the Denon page, www.del.denon.com, the current version is the DCM-460. There is no price listed, but I would figure it is probably a bit less than their HDCD player, DCM-370, which lists at $200. Good luck. zandern
I have a Denon DCM-270 and it is $200, the Denon DCM-370 is $300. I like mine, but received it as a gift, HDCD® Decoding and the coaxial digital output would be nice for the extra $100 dollars.
fini
Yesterday I picked up a Sony CE775 at The Good Guys for $249. I heard new models will be out in June. Sounddog, what qualities changed with burn-in? Did it get "sharper" or "more defined"? It seems a little blurry, I guess, after one day. How long did this take? fini
soundog
People on Audio Review and Audio Asylum are citing various time periods (around 300 hrs seems to be the outside figure). I have left mine on for over a month and it just seems to get better and better! And I use to scoff at burn-in. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
fini
Are you leaving it on playing, or just power on? I know some here (Mobile) recommends leaving SS equipment powered up. Is this the "conventional" wisdom of the burn-in crowd, too? In other words, if you turn it off, do you have to burn it in all over again? fini
soundog
Leave it in repeat mode for a few days initially and then just leave it on - that's what's worked for me anyway. It wouldn't have to be burned in again if you did turn it off but might take a few minutes to reach optimum. Tubes have been known to take a half hour or more to reach their optimum. Not absolutly sure about this stuff ... have yet to hear a good explaination but seems to make a difference. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

soundog
I cann't find it now either .... maybe it was a misprint or the last one but I did get a confirmation. They even knocked another $12.95 off the price because I bought a book from them about a year ago! The total came to $196.95 including shipping! ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

soundog
The Sony CE775 has reappeared on the Crutchfield site for $199 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-14OJIMsDEcU/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=158SCDC775&s=0 ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
soundog
I heard a souped up modified version of the 775 at the LIMA Audiofest - takes away the slight bass blur and slightly metalic highs. The mods cost almost twice as much as the unit but you end up with a first-rate SACD component for about $600 total! http://home1.gte.net/res0f2t3/web7.htm ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
