-BC-
at the moment i have a velodyne 12'' sub. its an older discontinued model but it still works like a champ. i think it might be time to upgrade though. ive listened to some of klipsch's subs and they were very impressive. i havent heard any of velodynes new subs though. im lookin for some feedback on a sub that hits like a champ and would go well with my rf-63's. price doesnt matter, quality does. im lookin at another 12'' or a higher output 10'' sub. what do ya think? DrWho
Are you looking at a 10" because of size/aesthetics? The physics dictate that going bigger with the sub is definitely better. And do you listen to more music or movies?

And do you listen to more music or movies? i threw the 10'' out there because i have not heard any of the newer models. i do like the depth and rumble of my 12 though. i guess for the sake of argument lets just stick with the 12'' subs. whats good? DrWho
Klipsch RT-12d, Klipsch RSW-15, and if you want real small, then JL Audio F113. There's always the Palladium line too with the P-312W:http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/p-312w-overview/ SVS and Epik would be two other places to look, but they will be a bit larger. holtrp
I am partial to my Velodyne SPL 1200-R. I run it in a pretty large living room with RF-83's and it sounds amazing. I demo'ed a klipsch RT-12D last year in the house and wasn't terribly impressed. In my room, I preferred the Velodyne. Klipsch subs have always sounded a tad boomy to me, must be because of the ports. I have always preferred sealed subs. Take a serious look at the JL 12, I was very impressed with that sub at the store and almost did a in house demo with it.
CECAA850
. price doesnt matter, quality does. Are you sure about that? I could justify some very nice (expensive) subs, if there's no upper limit.
DrWho
must be because of the ports Do you prefer the sound of a rolled off low end? Is it boomy because the speaker is accurately playing the source material, or because the speaker is inaccurate?
holtrp
I guess I don't exactly know what you mean when you say 'rolled off low-end'. I prefer sealed subs because they are tighter, more accurate and more consistent. Ported boxes or subs with passive radiators I have found to generally be louder, but they just aren't as tight. They sound fantastic at certain frequencies and seem to lag with others. I don't think that the RT-12d is as accurate as my Velodyne spl 1200r. At this price point though, I think it comes down to personal preference. I guess I wasn't really 'disappointed' with the RT-12d, it actually preformed just how I thought it would. laager
price doesnt matter, quality does. im lookin at another 12'' or a higher output 10'' sub. what do ya think? Velodyne DD-12. Nothing Klipsch makes in that size will come close. I'd go so far as to suggest even the Klipsch 15" won't come close to the DD-12 quality. I'd rather have a top level sub with a digitally controlled servo system and inbuilt parametric EQ made by a specialist sub manufacturer than the other option. Bill H.
Another unkown brand sub is Proficient PS 10 OR PS 12. I have the PS 10 and I really am impressed with it. Blends in well with either music or movies. To me, it is so efficient that I have to turn it way down or it shakes the house (without sounding boomy)................. www.proficient.com

Pete H
I haven't heard the Velodyne DD's, so I don't have an opinion as my Velodyne is an older 1512. I have listened to the Klipsch RT's and IMO, they don't hold a candle to the RSW's and as stated many times, today at least 3 or 4, I love my RSW 15, but it's all about what you like, not me or anyone else on the forum. Good hunting!
