Best practice for placing Rf 63 ?

Hello Boy's and Girls, my first post here :)

I'm the really really happy owner of a pair of klipsch RF63

I have some problems with correct placement....

I've started out with the placement that is draw in the manual, but i' was absolutely not happy with it, I've noticed that on many pics posted on the internet many people place them perpendicular to the rear wall, that didn't work out for me there was a kind of loosing focus with this configuration, but i've started from there....

Actually my placement is (the center of the speakers forward) 87 cm (33.5 in) form the rear wall, and 65 cm (25.6 in) from the side wall, the speakers are turnet to the center with a really low angle, something like 15/20 degrees.

Ii'm almost "satisfied" with it, but i've noticed some little ( don't know how to exactly explain that ) sort of grammophone effect especcially with female voices, other than that the bass wich runs really deep, have a sort of tail, i listen almost to jazz/fusion and classical music, when big shots of bass drum, not timpani's, are executed in full orchestral executions, they should sound like BAMM, but here it sounds like BAAMmmm.

Does any of you klipsch enthusiast have some suggestions on it ?

For the rest these speakers are absolutely awesome, best i've ever had till now, i think i will keep in the klipsch family also for my future :D

Cheers !

Welcome to the forums!

I couldn't tell by your description if the front of your speakers are 33.5" from the back wall or the back of the speakers are 33.5" from the back wall. If its the back of the speakers I'd suggest placing them closer to the back wall.

If you get a chance to post some pics of your room it will help give better advice. [:)]

Hello ! thank you for the answers

I've uploaded this quick picture i've made unfortunately i have no camera so i cant take pics and with the phone i'ts too dark,

Link

Conversions & measures

room size 467 cm = 183.9 in - 420 cm = 165.4 in

Speakers position

Back of speaker 33cm =13 in away from rear wall

Front center of speaker 33.5 cm = 13.2 in away from side wall

Front center of speaker 87 cm = 34.3 in in away from back wall

Listener position is 260 cm = 102.4 in from the center point between the two speakers axis

The distance from center of the Speakers is 260 cm = 102.4 in

Actually the system is driven by a denon pma 1560 integrated amp, and an old sony cd player which i'm about to change really really soon [:)]

The angle of the speakers is almost right in the picture

There is nothing behind the speakers

Thank you for giving your advice !

Have a nice day, i'm about to have a nice night [;)]

Cheers

Brogh,

Welcome to the forum.

Your speaker position is very similar to mine except my 63's are toed in about 40 degrees where as yours look like about 25 degrees. My experience is tight bass(not boomy at all), smooth mids and extended highs(no cupped hands, megaphone sound at all). The highs do sizzle a bit with the likes of Nora Jones and Natalie Merchant but I don't mind that at all. Is your listening room a "live" room or "dead" room? Mine is on the "live" side(tile, high ceilings) but I have minimized it with the strategic placement of throw rugs. My gear(NAD, B&K) is on the neutral/warm side which does tame the infamous "brightness" Klipsch is known for.

Actually the system is driven by a denon pma 1560 integrated amp,

Your Denon PMA-1560(neutral/warm) should have no problem at all driving the RF-63's and I would think being biased toward class A and powerful(150w/ch 8 ohms,250w/ch 4 ohms), that it would be a very musical setup.

an old sony cd player which i'm about to change really really soon Smile

Maybe the Sony player is on the bright side and is the culprit.

Good luck and enjoy,

Bill

While playing a recording which is not sounding as you believe it should try moving closer to, or farther from, the speakers and note if there is a change. Sometimes, a difference of only a few inches can be dramatic. If possible, pull the speakers a bit farther into the room as well to decrease some of the bass coupling with the back wall.

  • 5 months later...

Hello, i've let this post a little time on a side, as i've moved things back and forth in my room to get the optimal positioning.

I'm still missing my amp ( denon 1560 ) as it's stil at the repair center but, i will have it back really soon.

So, at the moment i've found out that :

- moving my listening position a little forward from where it was

- getting the speakers less far away from each other

- toing the speakers a little bit more in

- bringing the speakers more away from the wall

Has solved many of the described " issues ", i've got the chanche to meet an audio technichian which gave me some good advices about it, and at the moment the thing has worked out fine.

I know i can improve it more, in fact this weekend i will have a friend which will led me a hand to do the fine tuning.

Thank You for all the suggestions !

have a good day !

Brogh, that's the only way to find out the best of best! I have gone through this exercize on weekly basis for the first couple of months, till we agreed to current placement of RF-7 IIs!

While, now you have gone through it this time, it will come handy once you receive Denon PMA 1560! [;)]

Hello Pite,

I've practically moved everything around in my
room ( my poor back isn't that happy but my ears are [:)]) to achieve
optimal performance from my Speakers, and after checking distances from
walls etc, i've made a sign were they need to be, the new position improved a lot the sound in general but the soundstage had a Huge step forward.

Actually as you know i'm missing my amp but i'm sure that when it comes back the work i've done will be certainly handy.

my actual Setup is this:

- Super hi silent PC with coax output using wasapi drivers, up and down sample to 96/24

- foobar 2000

- Cambridge audio Dac Magic

- Denon PMA 320

- Klipsch RF 63

- Sony CD player ( super old ,but mechanically ok, no noise, nothing strange, just old dac's ) connected in optical

I'm really happy and i can't wait that my amp comes back, but i think it will still take a while.

With this actual configuration i'm capable of reaching 110-114 Db peak level at 2,5 Meters away form speakers without hearing any harshness, or distortions, its just that my little amp sometimes doesn't have enough power reserve to handle high transients like the ones that existes in classical music.

Thank You [;)]
