JavaIsRobust
Does anyone have a similar setup to the one I have? I ask because I am not thrilled with the sound i hear during music and movies. I do not get the "WOW" factor when listening. I am considering an external amp. Any advice?
SuBXeRo
an external amp is great. DO you have a subwoofer? If you have a sub, try upping the crossover on the l/r channels. also, try upping the crossover on the center to 50-60hz. an external amp with 200 watts a channel will run things solidly IMO, its an upgrade u make and will benefit you for many many many years to come
cornfedksboy
Get a sub first. That will make a world of difference. If you already have a sub, please explain what you are hearing vs what you expected to hear.

Klipsch speakers are pretty efficent and a lot of power is not needed. Here is my systym minus the surrounds:
JavaIsRobust
Any recomendations on which sub and amp would be good for my setup?
VIC
when its comes to amps you can go with emotiva you get more bang for the buck and for the subs you can go with a klipsch sub they are pretty good or svs is another great company but really wen it comes to subs you can get any sub as long as the sub has good watt output you should be fine i think and also its good to have two subs like that youcan spread the bass out alone the room here are some links http://emotiva.com/xpa3.shtm http://emotiva.com/xpa2.shtm http://emotiva.com/xpa1.shtm http://emotiva.com/xpa5.shtm http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb13ultra.cfm http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-sb13plus.cfm

jimmy4300
I have a Dennon 3310 and a 3.1 system. RF82s, RC62 and an RW-12D sub. Sounds awesome to me. I moved up from a Dennon 1907 which did not sound that hot. The 3310 is a perfect match IMHO. And yes, a sub makes all the difference. SuBXeRo
before you do anything at all, let us know what sounds funny to you. First things first, diagnose the issue, don't chance complicating it more. I had the rf-3 home theater which is the older version of the rf-82 II h/t and i ran that system without a sub and on a denon 1707 and everything sounded great. I upgraded to the emotiva pro/amp combo and it was a big difference imo. The sound went from great to sounding excellent. You can also consider outlaw audio amps or parasound, b&k, rotel, NAD just to name a few. If you can find them used on craigslist and only a few years old they are a great deal. The emotiva amps are by far the greatest bang for your buck with outlaw audio coming in second. A sub truly brings everything together and gives you a really solid low end. We can recommend some models to you, let us know you room dimensions and room alotte for the sub.

JavaIsRobust
It is hard for me to explain. I am new to home theater audio. My only experience is with using a Logitech z-5500 5.1 setup with my computer. It has been a year or so since I have even used that. This Klipsch setup is my real first HT setup and I don't have anything to compare it to, so I'll do my best. I feel like with my current setup there isn't a lot of clarity. My receiver plays between -80ish db to over 30db I think. I have never really gone over 10db on the receiver. I feel like between -10db to 10db, there is not a big difference in loudness. There is a difference, it just isn't impressive. I was thinking that if I turned the volume up a little bit I would hear more clarity in different sounds. I'm just not impressed. My girlfriend is an opera singer so most of what I'm using to test are some of her blu ray operas. I try to listen to pieces wih a lot of sound from the orchestra. I also tested a few of the new Star Wars movies on blu ray. Again, it sounded nice but it didn't impress me. The only speakers that did impress me, and I hope I don't upset anyone here, were $1500 each B&W floorstanding speakers. I don't even remeber what I was listening to. It was at BestBuy a few months ago. They are the speakers with the Kevlar woofers. I felt like whatever I was listening just sounded nice, impressive, and had a real distinct and clear difference in the different sounds. To all you experts out there, I know I sound like I dont know what I'm talking about or that I'm crazy. I actually think that I have a good ear for what sounds good, I just don't know how to articulate it.
t-man
Double check all your connections - perhaps you have something out of phase.
elitedemo
if it were me id tinker with the idea of selling the denon, look into some pre/pros and amps (emotiva nails it on the head if you want to spend wisely and the umc is being clearanced out) and get a sub if your putting your receiver up that high your disappointment is likely right there... well and the fact that theres no real low end bass without the sub... take a peak at the umc and xpa 2/3/5's for subs svs, emotiva, epik, elemental design, hsu are all good options
JavaIsRobust
I'll get a sub for sure. I just got my center and surround speakers last month. I can only afford so much at a time. If I were to get an external amp like the Emotiva, does my reciever still have a major influence on the sound as far as how warm or bright the sound is? JavaIsRobust
What does out of phase mean?
robc1976
What does out of phase mean? it means you have the negative wire in the positive terminal and a positive write in the negative terminal. Just switch them.
