Home Theatre Speaker Pairing and Space Issues

Hey all,

pretty soon here I plan on taking the plunge and replacing my home theatre system. After a great in store demo (and two pairs of headphones) I have decided to go with Klipsch. Of course the devil is in the details.

Right now I plan on getting either a pair of RF-62s or 82s for the front, a pair of speakers for the rear, and either an RC-62 or 52 for the centre, as well as a matching sub.

As I also plan on replacing my stand, the coolest one I have found by far is the WAV-333 from Bello (http://www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&categ_id=47&prod_id=279&tab=2). Unfortunately the centre channel shelf is only 6 3/4" meaning only the RC-52 will fit..

So my thoughts are to buy the RC-82s and the 52 centre but I feel like I would be getting myself into trouble with this.. I am somewhat flexible when it comes to price but the real issue is space. Larger enclosed TV stands I have looked at typically jump into the 65+ inch range, much bigger than the above unit (46") and simply won't fit in the space properly.

So, thoughts? Suggestions? What should I do?

Probably not what you want to hear but the rc-62 is in a differnt league than the rc-52 IMO. I have owned both and while the rc-52 didn't suck it just didn't have the presence of the rc-62.

As for the floor standers..... I have owned both the rf-62 and the rf-82. I honestly could not hear a difference between the 2 sets. If you do alot of music listening with no sub and you need the extra bass that the 82's can provide than go with them. But for home theatre when your crossing your mains at 70-80hz anyway and using a sub you won't hear a difference. They even have the same tweeter.

As for the sub.... to me this is your 2nd most important speaker for home theatre (1st being the center channel). This does not have to be matched in anyway to the rest of your speakers. Figure out your budget and look at the big ID (internet direct) companies and buy the sub that most suits your physical size requirments and your output requirments. The big ID sub companies are:

1. Elemental designs (most bang for buck for HT sub IMO)

2. SVS (never heard one of theirs but their reviews are off the charts)

3. Epik (again no experience but also get great reviews)

4. Emotiva (smaller subs for the most part)

5. HSU

6. Rythmik

Check out those companies before settling on a Klipsch sub. Im not saying Klipsch subs are not good... but you just have to pay more to get the kind of performance that the ID companies can get you.

I just sold a pair of rf-82's with the rc-52 and to me that center just didn't keep up with them. I seen something on bello's site for an optional mount to hang the tv on that particular stand. You could do that and then set just the center channel on top. Would look really good and give you even more storage for things in the "center channel" compartment.

I don't have any experience with the RF82s, but I have the 62s paired with the RC62 and they work very well together. By all accounts the RC52 is a fine center, but I think you'll want to try the RC62 rather quickly if you go that route. So, you're likely better off going with the 62 at the outset and saving yourself the time and hassle. I'd second Scrappydue's thought on finding a way to hang the tv and simply setting the center channel on the top of the stand.

Rf-62+rc-62 all 6.5 inch drivers across the front will sound outstanding. Then just get you a nice sub. I recommend svs from the list above. They come with the best warranty, in home trial, and their customer service is the best I have ever experienced. Everything good you read about them on the Internet is true! I just ordered mine yesterday, and it was the most comfortable buying experience I have ever had with anything in my home theater.

Hey guys,

thanks for the tips. I have decided to definitely go with 62s for the fronts and centres and keep looking for a better stand that's just right. I could definitely hear a real difference between the 52s and 62s in a store demo. Anyways, for example I found this stand and it is just about right - http://www.bdiusa.com/theater/novia_8428.shtml

The subwoofer discussion is interesting. For the subwoofer I was looking at the 110 or 310 (more likely) from Klipsch. I am not familiar with SVS at all. Is there a specific model that anyone can recommend that would be a good match to the 62s? I could also hold onto my JBL Venue Sub 12 but I don't believe it would be able to stack up to the new set up.

As for the rears (which are undecided); unfortunately with the room the rear speakers really do have to be mounted on the back wall as it is impossible to put them on the sides (to the left of one couch is an open entrance way into the room). If I got the Klipsch RS42/52/etc series one speaker on one side would actually be shooting into a bookshelf. Trouble indeed.

Curious what you ended up selling these for. Were they II's? Condition? How did you go about selling them. I might be selling something similar. You can pm me if that's better. if you don't mind, this info would help.

If you are not looking to to dig as deep as deep can go, Scrappy's RSW-10d would be the perfect sub to seamlessly blend with your RF-62/RC-62 setup. It is an awesome sub that is tight and fast and very musical and will play loud. I have been using one with my RF-63/RC-64 combo for over three years and it literaly disappears in my room. Clearly a much better sub than either the 110 or the 310.

This is a random photo I found on Google images.
