derrickdj1
I stream movies from my Samsung 3D BD player connected to the avr by HDMI. The avr is connected to the TV by HDMI. The movies only come in stereo mode, so I have to matrix them for surround sound. Any ideals on how to get them in HD/DD/DD 5.1. The player is set to bitstream. biglaz
What brand is your AVR?
Overreseached
1. Make sure the Netflix program is available in 5.1. Not all of them are. There's a search engine that allows you to search Netflix by Netflix 5.1 Surround: http://www.tvandmoviesnow.com/ 2. Make sure your Samsung BD player can stream Netflix in 5.1. You may have to update your firmware. What model Samsung do you have?
derrickdj1
I have a BD 5500 which is a little less than a year old. All firmware has be updated. Thanks for the link. I did not know you could search Netflix for 5.1 movies. The avr is a Pioneer Elite SC 35.
ivanhurd
I didn't know you could search like that either...good to know I suppose.
Moderators dtel Posted June 1, 2012 Moderators Share Posted June 1, 2012 Even if you get it in 5.1 I would bet it will not sound as good as a disc, but still better than stereo for a movie.
derrickdj1
Yes, it will most likely be compressed like TV signals. I just wondered if I needed one of those HDMI 1.4 cables.
ivanhurd
^^^Newp. I don't have 1.4 in my setup and I can stream the 5.1 stuff (as long as my internet connection allows it...)
WHayton
Does your receiver handle DD+, mine didn't so I had to upgrade Regards, Will
derrickdj1
Yes, it has that feature, I may have to fool around with the avr/BD player connections and setup menu some more. Thank everyone for all the info. Somehow I am always learning new things on this forum.
WHayton
Sorry, I didn't see DD+ listed in the SC 35's repertoire
ivanhurd
I messed around with having it set to bitstream on my PS3 for a little bit as that's what I do most of my streaming from, and when it was streaming 5.1 the AVR showed Dolby Digital, when it wasn't it showed PLIIx (or whatever other setting I may have had it on at the time). derrickdj1
I will have to double check, but I thought the SC 35 had the AC 3 designation?
derrickdj1
Just found some info on the web that said the Samsung BD players don't have the app/clinet to stream DD.5.1 from Netflix. PS 3 and LG BD(newer ones) do have the updated client to support 5.1/1080p streaming. Hopefully Samsung will get a firmware fix. http://www.techofthehub.com/2011/10/when-is-1080p-netflix-coming-to-my.html
ivanhurd
^^^Weird. I would think that any player that streamed from anywhere would have that capability just based on the simple fact that those formats are available on the websites...
derrickdj1
I think it is a licensing issues and money. Just like Bose does not offer some format to save money.
ivanhurd
Meh. That's all I gotta say about that...
cyclonecj
What speed is your internet connection? I use a WDTV, & started to get 5.1 after I switched to an 18meg fiber. Before I only had 3meg DSL, & never got 5.
