LarryC
Only a month after Stereophile reviewed the H III (reported by russ69 in http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/168024.aspx), TAS has a featured review of same by Dick Olsher, in the December 2012 issue. The article presents a nice history of the basic Heritage line and its upgrades, and mentions Roy Delgado as the responsible designer. After wandering around in sensitivity and efficiency matters and positioning of the H III, the article dwelt on the first watt and how superior the H III is with two specific SET amps. At least it didn't recommend replacing the tweeter like another reviewer did in the LS II! Olsher says the H III is a godsend for music lovers in search of a tube-friendly high-sensitivity speaker. "The real surprise is that it is capable of delivering a significant slice of sonic heaven. It represents a terrific value and merits nothing less than an enthusiastic two-thumbe-up recommendation!" Moderators dtel Posted November 14, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 14, 2012 Good to hear, it's usually good news when they finally give a fair listening chance to a good horn design. [Y]
odysseyrevolver
Cheers! But why is the H3 receiving this recent attention?
Bonzo
Maybe there's nothing else new out there worth reviewing? Good to hear the HIII is getting some love from the audio media.
Daddy Dee
Larry, thanks for the post. What were the two SET amps mentioned?
LarryC
Larry, thanks for the post. What were the two SET amps mentioned? Two that I never heard of: "the 3Wpc Get*Set*Go designed by DIYTube's Shannon Parks and based on the 6B4G triode, and Pete Millet's R120 SET ... based on the French R120 power triode." Never heard of the tubes, either.
Daddy Dee
Larry, thanks. Have run across the Get SET Go just in browsing the web. Don't really know anything about it though.
Marvel
The 6B4G is like a 2A3 in an octal base instead of a 4 pin base. I have been tempted to build a pair of these, but alas... too many irons in the fire already. btw, Shannon has some very nice designs thatare not supper expensive.
