snailtrax Posted March 29, 2013 Share Posted March 29, 2013 I have a pioneer VSX-1121-K and I am running 5.1 with a pair of Chorus II for the fronts, an Academy for the center, a Lab 12 Tapped horn for the sub and a pair of Forte II for the rear surrounds. I want to change it to a 9.1 system. I have a pair of original Forte, and two pair of KG4. I want something smaller than the KG4. 1 What other KG models should I be looking for? 2 Or what else should I be looking for? 3 Is the timber match as important with the extra surround? 4 Would it be a waste of time? 5 Is there much to be gained going from 5.1 to 9.1? tromprof Posted March 30, 2013 Share Posted March 30, 2013 I wasn't expecting much when I changed from 5.1 to 7.1 but was surprised at how much the rears added. If you can fit the Fortes for your rears go with that, if not the KG4s. If you go smaller you will loose a lot of the rear bass. My system is a bit bigger than yours but I tried KG4s in the back at first, and then for fun swapped in the Fortes to see if it would matter much. It did and the Fortes stayed.
