USNRET
My question is "why would you buy a receiver and an amp"? Receiver technology (and bells and whistles) get updated like my wife's shoes while amps just keep on keeping on like my Levi jeans. I would suggest a pre/pro and a good amp instead and then update the pre/pro as you would want in the future while keeping the amp.
psg
My question is "why would you buy a receiver and an amp"? Because my AVR is cheaper than a pre/pro.
USNRET
My question is "why would you buy a receiver and an amp"? Because my AVR is cheaper than a pre/pro. I thought the original post was: Thanks, I am looking to upgrade my receiver maybe even getting an amp......... So upgrading (buying a new) receiver and getting (buying) an amp would not be as cost effective in the long run Edited November 23, 2013 by USNRET
derrickdj1
Yup! The only thing I wish is that you could totally disable the power amp in a receiver to draw zero electricity. The newer Class D/D3 avr's don't use that much power when just watching TV and listening to music. Just to turn on my Yamaha M 80 at baseline use take 50 watts and to contrast that, the berhiner for the sub is 10 watts. The Yamaha is from the early 80's so much less efficient.
