Not sure if I can get them into my system if I buy them, at that price it's hard to resist. Hard sell to the wife also, she likes the flat maggie MG12's currently residing in that spot. Islander Posted August 14, 2013 Share Posted August 14, 2013 The 1963-2005 model La Scalas are the first generation and all sound pretty good. The ones made around 1981 with the AL crossovers should probably have their crossovers replaced with earlier or later ones, but that's the only weak member of that family. The La Scala IIs came out in 2006 and are the current model. They are a major upgrade over the first generation, with deeper and fuller bass, due to their cabinets being made of 1" MDF instead of 3/4" plywood. Also, the LS2s are 2-piece, with the squawker and tweeter in a separate cabinet that sits on the bass cabinet. Since the LS2s are 50 pounds heavier than the first generation La Scalas, being able to separate the two pieces is a helpful feature that makes them easier to transport. Giving the HF section a bit of isolation from the vibes of the woofer may also make a slight improvement in the sound. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
snacker Posted August 14, 2013 Author Share Posted August 14, 2013 Looks like these are mine. Checked them out today, sound incredible even though I couldn't quite sit in the sweet spot. They were moved to a bedroom and demoed with some nice tube equipment. I really wanted to see the Focal Grande Utopia's he had hidden by sheets that he replaced the La Scalas with : P. I pick the La Scalas up on Sunday. Needed some better moving equipment to get them home plus I had to measure. Looks like I'm going to shoehorn them into place with the 53" available.
